This is an amazing organization that truly offers a hand up, not a hand-out. I am inspired and lifted up weekly as I see clients who truly want to work transform themselves with the help of Jacob's Ladder into confident, viable and professional candidates for living wage jobs.

The Great!

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

I've seen clients come in looking demoralized and feeling that they can't change their status and begin holding their heads higher by the second week. I've seen them transform their lives and families by finding jobs.

More feedback...

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

It's a privilege to witness the transformation of our clients.

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

positive, hard-working and comitted to creating lasting change.

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

Change lives and our city by turning our underemploye and unemployed citizens into self-supporting productive members of our community.

I have been a volunteer for Jacob’s Ladder Job Center for about 5 years now and would not trade this experience for anything. Jacobs Ladder provides hands on training in work ethics, writing resumes, interview preparation and professional attire. The confidence and encouragement people obtain here are priceless. Even in a down economy, the clients, some of which are considered "unemployable and chronically unemployed" have a drive to succeed that stems from the core beliefs and training provided here. Steffi Travis and her team are amazing and the program is wonderful.

The Great!

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

The commitment of the staff to help people obtain gainful employment.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

Watching people tranform in front of my eyes, literally. Some clients come in only owning the clothes on their body. Asssiting them with clothes that look good on them creates a change in posture, eye contact and confidence.

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

Professional & Exceptional!

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

Begin to break the cycle of unemployment and make a difference in countless lives.

Ways to make it better...

The clothes closet is in need of more professional attire, especially in larger women's sizes.

In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...

funding and economic needs, like everywhere else

One thing I'd also say is that...

This is a great organization and an asset to the Charlotte community.

I have been volunteering weekly at Jacob's Ladder since 2006. It is a great way for business people to serve the poor and jobless, because they need the skills that we have. The clients at Jacob's Ladder are in great need of a job, and they are highly motivated to succeed. I highly recommend Jacob's Ladder

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

I enjoy the one on one interaction with the clients. Also, this is my way of taking the huge national questions like unemployment and how to help the poor and making it real and personal. You realize that the bumper sticker generalities do not apply.

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

Most volunteers are current or retired business people. All are great people. The staff is highly motivated and skilled, but understaffed.

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

Hire additional staff. Maybe move from job skills to job training for specific jobs.

Ways to make it better...

Sometimes communication with volunteers could be better. I have shown up on my regular day, only to find the place shut down. This has not happened in the past year and a half.

In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...

The need is so great.

One thing I'd also say is that...

This is a very rewarding way to make a difference.

Jacob's Ladder is filled with dedicated people who truly strive every day to form a partnership with the clients. This not only includes the wonderful staff but also the army of volunteers that give their time and experience freely.

My experience with Jacob's Ladder has been amazing. From my very first day, there was a feeling I felt about this place that has shown true. It's like they have helped me be the best person I can be.They have allowed me to gain access to different opportunities. As long as I did my part they were there for me.To be truthful, words could not express all the help, love, respect, and patience they have for people. It's really a special place, that through honest desire, dreams can turn into a reality. It is a place hope stays alive and people really care.

I had the pleasure of being a client and now being a full-time employee of Jacob's Ladder as the Technology Instructor. Upon first arriving at Jacob's Ladder as a client, I was very impressed with the willingness of staff to help me in my job search. I began to network with volunteers who even forwarded my resume to their friends, churches, and employers. Soon after, I began volunteering at Jacob's Ladder as a speaker and it was fun to tell my story. Several months later,an opportunity opened up for a part-time position as Technology Instructor for Jacob's Ladder clients. I jumped at the opportunity to work for the program where I could offer encouragement and expertise in the area of Technology. I am now a proud full-time employee of Jacob's Ladder and I am excited about where we are going as a non-profit. Go Inspired Team!

Jacob's Ladder does what no other type of non-profit can do and that is give people the financial independence they deserve while alleviating the local welfare system. God's hand is guiding Jacob's Ladder. Jeffrey P. Terrell

I began volunteering with Jacob's Ladder in November of 2009. I was looking for a way to give back and I can honestly say that I have received much more than I have given. The staff and the volunteers are truly committed to helping the participants find meaningful employment. From the classes offered to the bus passes and gas cards that participants are eligible to receive to the interview clothes they are outfitted with through A Perfect Fit, every aspect of their service is first-rate. Participants are encouraged to stay in touch with Jacob's Ladder through their first six months of employment. The staff and volunteers are available to help them with any issues that arise, so that they just don't get a job but are able to keep one as well. Every week, volunteers come to speak to the classes to share their experiences and their expertise. To have so many volunteers who are willing to come in (many on a monthly basis) is a testament to the strength and character of this organization. I am proud to be affiliated with Jacob's Ladder.

I cannot give enough praise to the staff as well as the volunteers at this program know as Jacob's Ladder. The resources and knowledge that is readily available is "top knotch". This program is of the highest caliber to those who are committed to obtaining employment or for those looking to enhance the skills they already have. They helped me perfect applications and the cover letters and resumes are extremely helpful. The volunteer speakers bring an added bonus. The knowledge they share, the information on life experience pertaining to the job market and how they learned to motivate is excellent.

I have been a participant in Jacob's Ladder program since January 4, 2010 through the Department of Social Services. Before entering the program, my social worker gave me great reviews on the Jacob's Ladder program. Being a part of the program has been one of the best experiences of my life. All of the staff and volunteers live and breathe the mission of the organization. Each day since I've started the program, I feel that I have learned a new technique or life lesson. Upon completion of this wonderful program, I have every intention of paying forward the knowledge that I have gained here.
