I am a medical student in the field of Osteopathic Medicine. I have observed the childhood obesity prevention developed by David Felzenberg, Executive Director of It's About The Kids Education Organization. I was impressed by the involvement and engagement of the children at the event that I attended. Osteopathic medicine emphasizes helping each person achieve a high level of wellness by focusing on health promotion and disease prevention. Mr. Felzenberg (as Bubbles The Clown) presented his childhood obesity prevention program, "No Body Is Perfect," in an educational and entertaining way. The program emphasized health promotion and disease prevention. The main theme of the presentation was that leading a healthy lifestyle by eating well and getting daily exercise is not only important; it is fun.

The Great!

I have personally experienced the results of this program by seeing the way that the children who attended the program were receptive to the messages of healthy eating and daily exercise. For example, Bubbles The Clown used hand puppets to show some healthy foods to eat, such as fruits and vegetables, and had hand puppets to demonstrate that exercise is fun. The kids helped Bubbles magically produce a bunny rabbit. He went on to involve the children in a discussion of the healthy foods that rabbits eat.

Ways to make it better...

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

My recommendation would be to let schools and health care providers know about this program. It was presented using a teaching method that I have not seen before. The kids responded enthusiastically to the way it was presented.
