My involvement with Irving Cares started more than 15 years ago when my son was in Cub Scouts in Irving, Texas. We participated in the annual Scouting for Food program. Our fledgling den, based at our local elementary school, brought in a substantial number of cans collected throughout the neighborhood. Our cub scouts and later my daughter's girl scout troop adopted families through Irving Cares. Seeing the reactions of the adopted kids when we delivered the requested items made a huge impression on our kids. Now my kids are grown and I am a weekly volunteer in the Irving Cares food pantry. Like my scouts before me, being able to help these families in need is what it's all about and makes us all count our blessings.

I am a former board member of Irving Cares, and I can tell you first hand of the good work that they do everyday. During my time there I heard so many inspiring stories about the help they have given to community members - help that has long, sustaining benefits. The help they provide isn't just about day-to-day support, it is focused on helping people move up and move ahead. This organization is an asset to the Irving Community and a model for non-profits.

Irving Cares motto of "It's not a hand out, it's a hand up" continues to resonate very strongly with me from my first encounter with this agency several years back to today. I always feel my volunteer time and money is best used when I give to Irving Cares. I have donated money to Irving Cares and served on their board in the past.

Irving Cares has been around helping Irving residents for more than 50 years. Thousands of people have received assistance with rent, food, medical transportation, utility assistance and jobs, but much more. They are greeted from people that understand when hard-times happen and they do to all of us, they receive respect from all the staff at Irving Cares, and these people really care about what happens to the clients that come with many needs. They are given life tools to help them over come their challenges and guidance to avoid future similar circumstances. Irving Cares is respected throughout the community for the communications they maintain with other resources in city and county that can assist the clients when they are not able to and they hold fast to the commitment to provide references and other resources to all clients that need assistance. Strong staff and board of directors work together to maintain IC excellent status with financial expenditures, grants, donations and contributions. Excellent organization.

I have volunteered and donated to Irving Cares for over seven years now and I have served on their board in the past. This is such a great organization and they serve a need to the most at-risk population in Irving. They have always believed, "It is not a hand-out, but a hand-up" and will offer long term solutions to clients once their immediate needs are met. I can't say enough about the staff at Irving Cares and their dedication to the organization.

If you're looking for a non-profit organization that has great leadership, transparency, uses financial and other resources very efficiently, and holds itself accountable by reporting key metrics, then Irving Cares is it! Irving Cares provides Irving residents with temporary assistance and training to promote self-sufficency. They are a small organization that does great things! In addition to the food pantry, they provide rent and utility assistance, employment services, and patient transportation. For clients that receive rent or mortgage assistance, it's not just a one-month fix. To truly help clients and use donor funds wisely, they want at least 85% of clients to not be evicted within 90 days. They're exceeding that objective at 94%. Check out their website or stop by Irving Cares and see first hand how they help the Irving community.

I have worked about one and a half years as a volunteer who first greets clients at the door and prepares them and their files before they meet the hard-working Case Managers. This organization does so much wth relatively few staff members. The staff ministers to a large number of Irving clients, trains 100+ volunteers like me, organizes and maintains a great food pantry, communicates with local organizations like the city, schools, churches, and other like-minded social services, has fundraising events, etc. Each and every staff member is serious, caring, and professional. They have been great and welcomed me into their family of hope and service to others. If I could give Irving Cares 10 stars, I would. ~~ S. G., Retired Educator

I have been a volunteer and board member off and on since 1999. I have seen this agency grow along with the need in the community. The dedicated volunteers and amazing staff make Irving Cares an extremely effective yet personal agency. The mission has remained constant over time, and families are being helped every day, thanks to their commitment and skills.

Irving Cares provides a beyond-vital service to the community - they truly make a difference, they are committed to their cause, they look for ways to reach beyond those they can serve directly. They truly preach and believe that it is a "hand up" and not a "hand out" and they are truly making a difference. The lives they touch, touch many other lives. It is amazing what they accomplish with such a small staff, but they make every hour and every penny count. Their volunteers are beyond committed. They truly are an extension of the staff's priorities, with the community's best interests at heart. All truly exemplify true servant leadership.
