I know some of the founders of The International Elephant Foundation and they are the most caring and courageous people I know. They have dedicated their lives to educating the public about elephants, caring for elephants and doing everything they can to help elephants survive around the globe instead of becoming extinct. I tell everyone possible about the IEF because it does important work well. 98% of the donated money goes directly to helping the elephants. Because these founders are involved, I am confident it is the best run organization in the industry of saving and caring for elephants.

The Great!

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

I have watched the founders care for their own elephants with great love and expertise. I have listened to them educate the general public in many different venues. When they were "on location" overseas for a movie one of their elephants made, they did a workshop for all the mahouts to show them how to improve their care for the elephants as well as making sure all the elephants involved had better food and health care as a condition of their being involved. They care like this everywhere they go.

Ways to make it better...

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

I only wish it could be more widely known, so more could understand the importance of the work it is doing.

The IEF is a truly worthy nonprofit. I can't think of any other which is more dedicated to its cause. They do great work for elephant conservation domestically and abroad, and the money you give is almost entirely directed to those efforts. The IEF deserves your support.

I contribute to IEF as they help the elephants directly. It's so very important to the survival of Asian elephants that a cure for EEHV be found. Let's keep the babies alive!

It is great to see people working for something greater than their own self interests. This is a grand effort for the planet and awareness of our place in it and our responsibility to the life that is all around us. I have found the group very well informed and interested in the elephants more than the politics, and yet willing to take on the politics (at their own expense) for the sake of the elephants. Information that leads to action that helps the cause and motivates the public. They are to be congratulated.

I directed elephant shows at the Have Trunk Will Travel compound, and they have suffered the loss of a elephant calf due to elephant herpes virus.

See that they get the positive promotion they deserve.

The IEF has broken ground in consolidating the dedication and knowledge of distinguished elephant professionals, veterinarians and enthusiasts to combat the challenges facing elephants on this planet. Diseases such as the vicious EEHV, tuberculosis and the ignorance of misinformed detractors threaten the existence of both Asian and African elephants. The passion and determination of members of IEF go a long way in replacing misguided emotion with informed expertise in the form of the Elephant Husbandry Resource Guide, an IEF publication used as a major reference and text book in programs training entry level elephant handlers. IEF conferences attract the best minds in the field and create a forum of constructive exchange.

We use the Elephant Husbandry Resource Guide in our courses and remain current on disease issues benefitting our herd of elephants.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

Make it possible for all elehant professionals to attend conference, which is impossible as elephants require hands on care 24/7 and not everyone can get away to attend.

I love contributing to IEF. Not only are the people involved incredibly passionate about saving these magnificent animals but they are doing so on a global scale for both the Elephants and the people who live near and work with Elephants in ecological ways.

The Great!

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

Seeing the work of IEF affiliates across the country and experiencing the dedication their members have for Elephants firsthand.

Ways to make it better...

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

Add a page to their website with videos to provide a more animated description of their amazing programs, so that more people could see some of their great programs in action. A good example being the projects in Asia on how IEF is helping humans and elephants coexist better in close proximity.

I feel quite comfortable donating to the International Elephant Foundation because I know they are committed to their cause and my donation will be used in the best possible way. Unlike many other organizations who purport to have the needs of their specific "cause" at heart, I know that is exactly how the IEF spends its time...in pursuit of the best possible life for Asian and African Elephants. I am so impressed with this organization and will happily donate to them whenever I possibly can.

Their work to help raise funds to study the EEHV is amazing. Unfortunately, I 'knew' a baby elephant who died of this disease and hope this research will have positive results in the near future.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

Tell them to trumpet (forgive me, I had to say this!) their work more so more people are aware of what they do.

We have availed ourselves of IEF sponsored workshops vital to furthering the understanding of disease issues such as endothelial herpes infection and tuberculosis as they affect elephants. The IEF published the outstanding "Elephant Husbandry Resource Guide", providing an excellent resource tool for those of us providing veterinary care for elephants.

I have utilized education gained through participating in IEF sponsored workshops in caring for endangered Asian elephants in managed care.
