Where do I begin? I absolutely love being associated with ISS, and am astonished by all it does. It's a small building that explodes with services. Regarding the Pantry Shelf, many of the people who walk through the door do not want to be there, many are humiliated that they have reached that point. I've seen women and men cry while they apply for food, others have been so grateful that it almost brought me to tears. For the most part, they just want to survive with whatever dignity they can salvage from what brought them to our doors. They are people, and I just love doing whatever I can to help in my own little way. Rick Doane has said that one of the hardest things some of these clients will ever have to do, is walk through our doors, and he is so right! We all need to be conscious of that at all times.

This is a wonderful organization that helps many families in need. They are run by a wonderful staff and volunteers who spend many hours of their day providing this service. Some of my family members have received help from them and were able to stay afloat while the husband got a new job.

I had the chance to visit Interfaith Social Services in September and received a tour through the facilities from Rick Doane. I was impressed with all the good they do for people in all walks of life. Whether in need of food, clothing, training, or otherwise, they are their to help. It really made me wish I could be a part of the crew, unfortunately I live over 2,000 miles away. I'm grateful for people like Rick and the countless staff who volunteer their time and efforts to ease the burdens of others.

I had just gone through four terrible weeks wanting to kill myself. I had no medical insurance and couldn't afford to go to the hospital or get counseling. After being turned down by one local agency, I was contacted by Interfaith Social Services and seen almost immediately. They made my counseling affordable and it has been quality counseling. My counselor, Maureen Richardson, has been professionally competent, available and supportive from day one. Maureen also understood the importance of my faith. After six sessions I am on the road to recovery and better than that, I know why I was struggling to think positively and deal with the stress in my life. I have new tools to deal with life's stressors and have Maureen to thank for that.

Because of the contributions of the local churches to the Interfaith Social Services, I could afford to get the help I needed.

I am very grateful to have the interfaith social service agency available for my clients who need assistance. In my role as Health Director,Public Health Nurse, Housing Inspector, etc... I come across many clients who are one step away from homelessness.. THe ISS has been a great resource for our Community and residents in Hull> Joyce Sullivan, RN Hull Health Director

INTERFAITH CHARITIES HELPS MY CLIENTS FROM THE HULL BOARD OF HEALTH COMMUNITY OUTREACH PROGRAM WITH A MYRIAD OF ISSUES. THE CAREER CLOSET IS THE ONLY PLACE I KNOW TO HAVE CLOTHES FOR INTERVIEWS OR NEW JOBS. THE UTILITY ASSISTANCE PROGRAM HELPS MY CLIENTS AVOID SHUTOFFS. THE FOOD PANTRY HELPS EVERYBODY AND EVEN HAD FRESH FRUITS AND VEGETABLES. FOOD, JOBS AND CASH ASSISTANCE FOR UTILITIES. i DON'T KNOW WHAT I WOULD DO WITHOUT THEM.

Readers of the reviews posted here for this charity so far should be aware that two of them, "Sue Whitehead" and "cga" are both Board Members. Isn't that kind of like an employee of a retail company participating in a consumer focus group about store brand products? To my way of thinking and living, they are misrepresenting their stated points of view by identifying themselves as volunteers. Although this organization does help people, it is its tendency toward this type of "spin" that I would caution donors about.

Review from Guidestar

I feel privileged to have the opportunity to volunteer with ISS. It has opened up a whole new world for me and given me the chance to make an immediate difference in people's quality of life. I highly recommend this organization both for the work it is doing for disadvantaged individuals and families on the South Shore and for the quality of the volunteering experience.

The Great!

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

the compassionate response to needs of individuals who are desperate. It is not only the action that is taken to help someone but also the caring and understanding attitude with which that help is given.

Ways to make it better...

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

try to get more organizations or companies to become regular donors. It takes a lot of time to conduct fundraisers every few months and write the number of grant proposals necessary to just break even. And in hard times like this, that's not enough.

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

the people who work for and with this organization.

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

intelligent, articulate and passionate about what they are doing through ISS.

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

help transform people's lives. People who are habitually impoverished have so many needs that an integrate set of services are required to help them make long term change in their lives. ISS has the foundation to be able to do that.

Ways to make it better...

A little more orientation for new volunteers.

In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...

getting enough funding to keep going.

One thing I'd also say is that...

this is an outstanding organization that deserves the consideration of anyone who wants to donate where it will make an immediate difference.

I have volunteered many places in my lifetime but the group of volunteers at Interfaith Social Services are the best. They care so deeply and work very well together in ISS's mission of helping our neighbors in need. It is a very busy place but the hearts of the volunteers and staff are so full of caring and compassion for their neighbors. It is an honor and privilege to be part of such a wonderful agency.

The Great!

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

watching and hearing the heart-felt words of thanks from many of the recipients of the services of ISS. The magnitude of how many families have been helped is mind boggling yet there are always smiles to go around.

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

The terrific volunteers that I have met and have become friends with over the past 4 years. ISS is a huge family that really cares about everyone.

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

Deeply caring, motivated, hard workers, and dedicated to serving our neighbors in need.

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

Enlarge the facilities, computer system, hire additional staff so that the 5-member staff would be able to have time to relax occasionally from the hectic pace required to meet the huge increase in clients and their needs.

I first became envolved with the then, Protestant Social Service Bureau, in the late 1970's and early 1980's as Warden at Christ Church Episcopal in Quincy. At which time I had the good fortune of meeting and negotiating with Mr. Robert Taylor the PSSB Director at that time. For the leasing and reuse of our old Rectory to an 8 room Shared Living Quarters for some of their needy clients. It should be noted, that Christ Churches connection with Pss/Iss goes back to their inception. When Greta Porteus the Rectors wife was one of their founders. I have, thru the years remained close to and continue, with my family, to support the Bureau as best we can. The workers and staff of the Bureau are the most dedicated people you could possibly wish for. We, our fellow parishoners and our Church continue and will continue to support and refer too them . My wife currently is one of our Churches deleates to ISSB and has previously served on the Board. We thank god, in thanksgiving for the wonderful Ministry they provide..
