Mission: To help develop self-confident future leaders through programs aimed at broadening their perspectives while ensuring they are financially savvy and effective communicators
Results: * IT'S TIME Middle School Students Speak Out About Haiti * Received the full support of DC Councilmember, Ward 5 Harry Thomas Jr. * Zalenda Cyrille, Director of Operations, was presented the Rising Heroine Award at the Women in Technology (WIT) and the March of Dimes 2009 Heroines in Technology Gala because she exemplified volunteerism in the community and has made a significant impact in a relatively short amount of time in her career
Target demographics: Middle School Students
Programs: Financial Literacy: We believe IT'S TIME we get started early with financial education. Our Financial Literacy program explores investment concepts in a fun and exciting way. We believe children learn best when they are active participants in the classroom. Our curriculum structure facilitates students gaining hands-on experience with investment fundamentals. Upon completing the program, our students will understand day-to-day financial matters and begin to understand the workings of basic economic principles. Speak Up: There are few professions where the star performers are not required to speak in front of large groups or make important presentations. Our oratory program prepares our students with communication skills now so that they may apply these critical behaviors both academically and professionally in the future. IT’S TIME to start teaching young people how to present and market their abilities. Each week we tackle a different oratory skill utilizing methods ranging from debating key issues to reciting famous works of poetry. With practice and recital, students will become more confident in their abilities to communicate effectively. Inspiration: Our Power Lunch series is the cornerstone of our program offerings. At the start of the program, all students are required to write a brief essay as to their career preferences; those responses are given priority consideration in the selection of guest speakers. In an effort to expand their aspirations and make their dreams more tangible, the program provides for weekly interaction with people from varied professions.

I gave a Saturday presentation to the kids about the stock market, and was impressed by their understanding, attentiveness, and interest -- hallmarks I attribute to the quality of the It's Time program in general. It wouldn't seem easy to get middle-school kids to focus on extracurricular learning on the weekends, but It's Time does it -- and does it well.

Its TIME focus on giving children very critcal skills they will need for the rest of their lives, skills that are often missed in regular classrooms. I think they have done a great job in preparing kids with leadership skills by giving them public speaking encouragement, financial responsibility skills, and community immersion. Great job It's Time for recognizing valuable lessons kids need!

It's Time is an excellent organization that could not have come at a better time! The time, attention, and skills that the staff gives to young children in the program is priceless and I'm sure will have a lasting impact on them as the grow and mature into adults.

It was a pleasure to have worked with a unique organization with truly dedicated booard members. I hope to contribute in any way I can, with the time and resourcs that I have, to support the mission of the organization. I have witnessed improved confidence and public-speaking skills in the students most recently when I judged the IT's TIME public speaking competition. I also believe that the mentoring component of the program benefits the children by allowing them to interact with adults and ask the right questions about education and careers. Students will take these experiences with them through high school, giving them an advantage when they start their college admissions processes.

It's Time DC is a dynamic organization committed to financial literacy. The staff and volunteers are both impressive and relentless. Any parent would honored to have their child enrolled in their Program. The current curriculum is well written and seems to balance fun and finance, creating a meaningful and lasting education experience.

I recently sat in on a IT'S TIME session and had the opportunity to observe its philosopy in action. The financial expert/presenter was very knowlegeable and took great care to explain financial concepts to the students who were very focused and attentive. The students asked articulate questions to get a clear understanding of the concepts. The students were asked to explain how they would implement the concepts if they were in key financial positions. I was amazed at how they had internalized the concepts and were able to justify the positions they took. I have no doubt that these students will continue to gain knowledge that will equip them with the ability/skills to make financially responsible decisions.

This is an awesome program that caters to the needs of children and teenagers as they take their academic journey through our school system. The program really strives to bring in people who can have positive influences on the students and help them make positive decisions in the future. I was impressed by the intelligence level of the students in this program, their outgoing personalities and all the questions with which they bombarded me. I was glad to be able to share part of my life and my career in order to positively influence and impact the students.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

The review I got from the students, their enthusiasm and eagerness to learn.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

Broaden their scope, ensure it is inclusive of all students. I will strive to make this a required activity for students or at least an activity that earns them some credits.

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

Meeting energetic, outgoing and intelligent students who are eager to learn and become a positive influence in their community

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

Great! They were nice and very friendly

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

Change the face of the DC public school system

Ways to make it better...

More time was dedicated to the activity and more students were involved

In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...

$$$ - I do not think they have enough money to have the kind of influence and impact I think they can have.

One thing I'd also say is that...
