I have been working with Inside the Orchestra (ISO) as an intern for a little over two months. The small but dedicated staff is made up the most passionate people - they truly care about the impact of music and music education in children's lives. Hours upon hours are spent each day, working to raise funds to ensure that ISO can bring their interactive orchestral programs to children in schools who might not otherwise be able to attend a live music performance. In watching the children laugh, listen, dance, conduct, and ask questions during performances, it's obvious to me that they are having so much fun, without even knowing that they are learning and developing in ways that only music can help provide. ISO is a unique organization that all families should know about!
I was first introduced to this organization earlier this summer by a friend who works with Inside the Orchestra. I was immediately interested in learning more about how I could help as I am a firm believer in how essential music is for children of all ages. This organization does a phenomenal job of educating those young and old about not only the fundamentals of an orchestra but the emotion, the passion and the espressiveness of the music. Watching my first concert was a magical experience - to see children's faces light up as the pieces are performed is priceless. The musicians are excellent and the conductor helps bring an entertaining, light-hearted approach to the learning element of the performance. More families need to know about this opportunity to expose their children to classical music in an intimate, comfortable platform - it is truly a one of a kind experience!
The passion within this organization from the board members to the musicians is quite clear and contagious. It has been an incredible experience working with the members of this group to bring music to the ears of those who would not have otherwise experienced it. I'm looking forward to continuing my volunteer work with this group!
