Hi I'm a wife of a cancer patient. We just went on the retreat to Disney. I can't explain how it feels being with others people who are going through the same thing. It's so nice to be able to talk to the ones who are the caretaker and to talk about the stress of dealing with everything in your life. like the kids the bills also the doctors appointments, all the medical that your love one has to take. Those night that you don't get any sleep because you are up take care of your love one. Inheritance of hope Inc. Has giving my family a new look at life and what it really means. It helps make memory's for a life time with your family's. the staff are so GREAT that you would want to take them home with you. Has the one who has to deal with everything in the house. I feel more at peace and more relaxes about the outcome of what we are going to deal with in the future. My family and I will remember this trip for the rest of our life's. My kids cry the day after because they missed all of there new friends and helper's. My children learn how to express there feeling about the sitution in a good position way and not a bad way. The friends that you will make is amazing. They also talk to you about your children and how to help them in different ways. Because we all know that everyone deal with sadly, pain and also anger in different ways. To be able to take your family to this magic place for free. Is the best give of all. The rooms were great the hotel was clean the staff was wonderful. You couldn't asked for a better trip. They also provided ride to and from the parks. If you need something at 2.00am the staff was right there to help or to take you to the hospital. And also they will stay with the kids so you don't have to bring them to the hospital with you. This is the best experience ever in my and my family's life. Please don't be afraid to do it. You will love it. Trust me I did it. God Bless to all of the INHERITANCE OF HOPE INC. God Bless to you all in the future that will have this great time and experience like my family and I did.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

To be a great experience to me and to my family. Also to open my eye's to what is really important in life. To get a understanding of what to expected in the future. To make friendship's that will last forever. Also just the memory's that you make with your family alone is enough to take home with you. but you will take and received a lot more then that with this organization. Between the staff member's. Also all the counseling that help you and your love one's out with all that they are feeling.

Ways to make it better...

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

The only change would be is to have it last longer. Nothing else has to be change. Because everything and everybody was doing there job very well.

Words could not explain how amazing this organization is! The volunteers and staff go above and beyond to make sure everyone is having a great time. Spending time with all the families and having counseling sessions really helped my family view life in a whole new way. Love Inheritance of Hope! :)

My husband wasn't looking forward to counseling sessions, he's not a big speaker. By the time the retreat was over, I noticed such a huge difference in his attitude toward his illness and looks at everything in a whole new perspective. I'm so happy that our family got to experience this!

Ways to make it better...

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

A day longer, to relax with all the families at the hotel, just hanging out.

This was a chance for me to take my children to the greastest place on earth. They have been wanting to go to Disney World for so long and I would not have been able to do it on my own. Plus the counseling and meeeting people in the same situation as me really helped put things in perspective.

I have experience with IOH at many levels. I have been privileged to know the Milligans as their pastor. They are gracious people who walk the talk. My daughter has served as a volunteer at six retreats and it has changed her life. I have met a number of the families helped by IOH, and they all express deep appreciation for this special ministry. Our family has connected with several of the families. I also participated in the New York City retreat in November of 2010 and saw firsthand the love and selfless service given to the families. There is no ministry that I could recommend more highly. IOH is superb. Rev Howard Lawler, Fishkill NY

I love IOH! I have watched it grow over the years and have been so inspired by their mission. I first became involved with IOH as a runner with Team IOH. They offer great support and encouragement in meeting your fundraising and training goals. I have also served as a volunteer at one of the Legacy Retreats. I was blown away by the love and dedication that goes into retreats and poured out to each and every family there.

While I don't have direct experience with IOH, I do with similar organizations that serve terminal and seriously ill children. A life-threatening illness is taxing on the entire family, and I'm so excited to see an organization dedicated to blessing an underserved population--families who are facing the loss of a parent. I pray that this organization will grow to help more and more families each year.

The friends we met through this amazing opportunity are now considered our family. Jill is amazing and has such a warm and loving heart and makes every family feel like the world revolves around us. My family received a dream vacation that my children will remember and the memories that were created with their dad are priceless. We can not be more grateful for such an amazing group of people and the volunteers that help make this such a success.

I have been following Inheritance of Hope since its inception and have been so overwhelmed by the way this organization has strengthened so many families through some very difficult times. Their mission statement that "Every family deserves a legacy" means so much and they are so passionate in passing this on to as many as they can. I was informed about this organization through my daughter who is a friend of the founders and it has been so exciting to watch it grow to the point of being able to meet the needs of more and more families. I have been able to donate from time to time and would like to be able to do more because,in my opinion, there will always be a need in the service they provide.

Having a friend volunteer and heard his report of how it greatly impacted his life. It is his desire to be able to help out on many more retreats to come.

I found Inheritance of Hope through a google search for non-profit organizations registered in the NYC Half Marathon. After reading their mission statement, I decided to register with Inheritance of Hope to run my first half marathon. Shortly after my 12th birthday, my father was diagnosed with lung cancer and doctors gave him 6 months to live. Four years later, shortly after my 16th birthday, my father passed away from lung cancer. I feel a special connection with Inheritance of Hope because I have experienced what the Inheritance of Hope families are currently living through. I believe it is truly remarkable what this organization has accomplished in its young existence. I was inspired to raise as much money as I could for Inheritance of Hope, and I succeeded in raising approximately $13,000 while running the NYC Half Marathon for Inheritance of Hope.

After the half marathon, I was invited to volunteer at a "Legacy Retreat". I could not take time from work to attend the entire Retreat, but I was able to volunteer for the final 2 days of the retreat. My first day as a volunteer was incredible. I spent time with the children, listening to the frustration, sadness, and sometimes anger caused by the seemingly hopeless situation. But I was encouraged to see that the kids were still laughing and playing together. Developing relationships with other children and parents struggling with the same issues is one of the biggest rewards for the families attending a Retreat. After spending time in the children's counseling session, I shared my story with the parents. Although my father's sickness was a painful experience, it is also an experience that has positively defined my life to this point. In my experience with IoH, I have come to realize that one of the biggest fears for the parents is how their sickness will affect their children. It has been a great experience for me personally to be able to share my story with the families.

As important as the counseling sessions are to the Legacy Retreats, they only last 2 and a half hours every day. The afternoon is always reserved for fun. On this day, the group spent the afternoon white water rafting. Some of the best pictures from the weekend came from this afternoon. Everyone was laughing and having an amazing time.

My first day as a volunteer is a perfect example of how remarkable this organization is. I had never met anyone at this Retreat in my life. But because we shared a common struggle, I was able to jump into the Retreat, half way through the weekend, and make very personal connections within a 24 hour period.

Since this Retreat, I have volunteered for the other 2 retreats held thus far (Disney World and NYC). I plan to volunteer for every Retreat in the future. I have also registered for the Marine Corp Marathon in Washington DC this fall. I had no expectations when I registered with Inheritance of Hope a little over a year ago to run the NYC Half Marathon. But I have come to love this organization. The experience has been rewarding beyond all expectations, and the organization has allowed me to share my family's experience to help others.

The final day of the Legacy Retreat's is a reflection of the weekend spent together. I have personally seen the results of this organization in the sincere gratitude from the families during the closing ceremony. it is common for at least 1 child to ask to volunteer for a future retreat after attending the retreat as a family member.
