Indraloka Animal Sanctuary is a magical place where peace and calm and connection are experienced by all species (humans included). Founder Indra Lahiri is a skilled leader and nurtures both the animals who reside at the Sanctuary and the people who volunteer/visit. Her vision and commitment will ensure that the Sanctuary grows and thrives. It is an honor and a privilege to be a part of this organization.

I started volunteering at Indraloka over the summer. It is the most peaceful place I have ever experienced, and you can see it in the happiness of the animals. I hand feed chickens, give belly rubs to pigs, and take great joy watching 1200 pound pigs eat a tomato or a pineapple. I swear they are smiling. Cats and dogs run to greet my car when I pull on the property. Lambs follow me like pet dogs. I can't get enough......

It is our pleasure, here at Carpe Diem Education Trust, Kerala, India, to have a woman like Indra on board as a trustee. We could not be what we are now without her expertise, compassion and experience. We enjoy having Indra part of our meetings and we expect her to be with again soon to advise us on how to properly run our Trust. We are happy to carry the cost of her Airline ticket a we have done before. The student, "Muthu" Indra has sponsored, is almost finished with his Bachelors degree in Engineering and will be eternally grateful to her. We have visited Indraloka at several occasions and the farm is well organised, the animals well taken care of and loved . The volunteers are wonderful and seem to have formed a close knit circle of friends with a common and wonderful goal: to make this world a better place to live, for animals and people alike.

The owner is a liar. She claims to have a PhD but a little research proves she does not. She uses the money she gets from big-hearted people to pay for her vacations. She may have fooled some but not all.

During my visits to Indraloka I did not get emotionally involved with any of the animals, other than Izzy and Tinker Bell. May be because I was unattached, it is easier to write a neutral review. The sanctuary is well taken care of. The animals are treated better than most people in this world when they are depending on family members to take care of them because of old age or because they are incapacitated . Most importantly the animals are given love which they return a hundred fold to their caretakers. Looking for a place to donate?? I can not think of a more rewarding place to spend your donations and know that these creations by a Greater Power have the food, shelter and love they deserve after a life of service to humans.

Finding Indraloka has been the most wonderful experience of my life. I have wanted to help animals since I was a little girl, but had always been driven away from doing so by those around me. To find a place where others love and respect animals the way I do has been the best gift I could ever receive. Knowing these animals that have had a difficult past will live the rest of their lives with shelter, food and love fills my soul with peace.

I love watching the cats run to the car when I first arrive, I love watching the horse in the pasture, I love feeding the cows peaches, I Iove cuddling with the dogs, I love when the pigs first wake up and there is still hay on their heads, I love when the turkeys eat out of my hand, I love when the lambs huddle around me for kisses, I when the chickens run for my snacks, I love that they have all found the ability to trust again, most of all I love that there is a place in this world full of peace & love that I am now a part of.

What one change could this group make that would improve your volunteer experience?

I can't think of anything to make the experience better, other than being able to spend more time there.

Did your volunteer experience have an effect on you? (teaching you a new skill, or introducing new friends, etc.)

Meeting Indra has changed my life. She has shown me that there are good, caring people in the world.

How did this volunteer experience make you feel?

Every week I go I feel as though I matter, I have a purpose in life.

Indraloka came into my life when I needed something more than I was currently getting. I never though that working on a farm would be my guiding light. I have been a loyal and loving volunteer for two years now and I see no end in sight. It's not just our mission but all who encompass Indraloka: the founder, the animals, the other volunteers and the friends of friends. All of these components give The Sanctuary its tangible goodness and earthly happiness. I thank and love you all!

I have been volunteering for over a year. I started there because I am a strong animal advocate and wanted to help animals in need. I can truly say that I have received more than I have given. The atmosphere at the sanctuary is filled with love and peace. I am constantly amazed at how the animals coexist in such harmony. The sanctuary is a model of how the world should be.

Indraloka Animal Sanctuary is truly heaven on earth for the animals (humans alike!) who are fortunate enough to find themselves there.
I never knew a pig could smile until I volunteered at Indraloka.
I never knew a chicken could laugh until I volunteered at Indraloka.
And I never
knew I had the capacity to enjoy shoveling horse droppings until volunteered at Indraloka!

This non-profit changed my life! I only wish I could spend every free moment there.

Indra - who lives at and runs the sanctuary - gave me valuable information recently to help me keep a dog I was fostering. She has valuable insight and cares about every animal and every person!

I believe they are on track, creating a cat adoption campaign with another local non-profit. This is a fantastic outreach idea to help both organizations. They also have a great facebook group for volunteer coordination, also a huge help for everyone I'm sure.

Indra Lahiri has created an animal sanctuary in the farming community of Mehoopany, PA. When I went through a divorce I needed to find a home for two "unadoptable" horses. She took them in and 2 1/2 years later they are thriving in the place where unadoptable animals have a "forever home."
Indraloka is home to pot belly pigs, cattle, chickens, goats, dogs and many cats.
I have just adopted my second cat from Indraloka. Valentino joins Rex, the beautiful Maine Coon kitty I adopted in 2008. They are little brothers to my old girl, Niki, who is 13.

Indra helped me so I wouldn't have to put down two very sweet, but unridable horses.

They are mellow and very caring. Many volunteers help take care of the animals. A recent call for donations to spay and neuter many feral kittens raised the needed amount in a short period of time.
