Dear all, I have contacted ICAN and Marcia Horn a few months ago when we found that my mother has lung cancer. The next day Marcia wrote me an email with many usefull information I could use about the treatment options, analysis, doctors etc. Ever since, I know I can contact Marcia and Ican for any questions I might have and receive a few hours later the answers I needed. Their activity is really amazing and a real help for us.
Thank you so much for everything you do for the patients and their family!

My husband Don was diagnosed with Stage IV lung cancer when he went in for hip replacement. It was devastating news. Then we heard about ICAN and connected with Marcia Horn. She helped us navigate the reports, kept us apprised of new developments, held our hands and acted as our cheer leader at all times of the day and night. Eighteen months later Don is still going strong and ICAN's positive "you can do it" attitude has made all the difference in this fight.

My family has all benefitted from ICAN. When it felt like the world was imploding there was Marcia propping us back up again so we could continue the good fight.

Try to get the word out to more people and especially professionals in the field of oncology. ICAN is not in competition with the health care providers. It is a support for them also.

I was at work when I got the news - my breast cancer had returned to my spine and I was now Stage IV. The Doctors did not give much hope and told me only 16% survive past five years. My girlfriend volunteered at a Jewel of the Ball fundraising event ICAN was holding in 2006 and she decided to volunteer. Little did she know it would change my life.
ICAN called me the very next day at work and reassured me we were going to fight this and it was not gloom and doom. They immediately went into action and referred me to a doctor who helped save my life. I am now in remission over six years and although they won/'t use the word cure, I know I wouldn't be here today if it wasn't for this organization. They truly are the remission coaches of the cancer world and have my support and trust forever.

I reached out to ICAN earlier this year when my father was diagnosed with Stage IV Melanoma. Since we were new to the cancer world, we didn't have much knowledge about the cancer or what all of the treatment options out there meant to us. It was so very scary to us and how could we trust 1 doctor to make the right decisions for my father. I explained all the options we had in front of us to Marcia Horn and she right away eased all of our concerns and worries. We felt good about choosing a treatment plan appropriate for my father after speaking with her. She is extremely knowledgable and was able to provide so much information to us about the drugs, their side effects and effectiveness. She is truly dedicated and always has you in the back of her mind.

Hi I'm Jay C. 38 years old from Cavite, Philippines and I'm one of the lucky cancer (testicular cancer) patient who was readily been assisted by Ms. Marcia Horn. She is a jewel for us who has cancer. She helps us in all the steps to undertake to make us prepared for the challenges ahead. She also makes good advises and serves as my 2nd opinion that guides me well in my cancer treatment. I couldn't thank you more and we are lucky to have and know you.

Keep up the good work and God bless you always. More power!

As the parent of a cancer patient, our family is so grateful that there is an ICAN and a Marcia Horn. ICAN, thru the unbelievable efforts of Marcia Horn and her dedicated advisory board and volunteers, is there every step of the way to help when others say there is no hope.

They provide
the gold standard for an organization! They are there to help, encourage and give one hope during your darkest days and nights.

We pray that ICAN and Marcia Horn flourish in the years to come and that the day will come that we will no longer need the services of this wonderful organization and it director and volunteers. I know she will cheer along with everyone who works so tirelessly to see that day come to fruition. WAY TO GO ICAN

In November of 2008, my wife was battling late stage cervical cancer. We were at MD Andersen in Houston being evaluated for a clinical trial when we receieve a referral to Marcia Horn, CEO of ICAN. The person providing the referral told us we could contact Marcia "at any time of the day or night." We were very concerned about our options given the stage of my wife's cancer. We had more questions than we had answers and time was not on our side. Marcia was an incredible savior helping us navigate the plethora of information available while guiding us to an oncologist with unique expertise. Over the final 5 month's of my wife's life, I must have had two dozen or more phone conversations with Marcia. It was not unusual when checking my emails first thing in the morning to have emails from Marcia that were written and sent at 3am. Where can you find such dedication and advocacy? Sadly, my wife lost her battle April 2009. Of my many wishes, I wished we would have been referred to ICAN a year or two earlier. Maybe, just maybe I would still be married to the woman of my dreams.

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

the reassurance of knowing someone completely impartial and with no financial gain is helping my family do what we need to do to try to save the life of someone our family holds very dear.

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

unquestionably the hardest working, most committed team of people I have ever met.

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

help save the lives of many more people thus insuring children can be raised by their blood parents, spouses and husbands get to grow old together and families aren't devastated by the horrible effects of cancer.

Since retiring, I have chosen to give back by helping non-profits upgrade their web presence. I started working with ICAN in March of 2009, and I have spent more time with ICAN than any other of the non-profits I work with. This is not because they are difficult to work with -- far from it! Marcia Horn and her cadre of dedicated staff are friendly and appreciative of the volunteer help they get. I spend the time I do with ICAN because of the unique work that they do. There is no other cancer-related organization that does what ICAN does, and I can think of no other organization as worthy of the time I can give them.

Marcia Horn is the expert when you don't know where to go. She knows all the best oncologists and surgeons and is up to date on the latest trials. Her services are needed as she will be the one to help find a cure for this horrific disease.
