The staff went above and beyond allowing us to host a meeting for the men who stay there. They would make sure the library was set up for us and remind the guys who did want to go (but might have forgotten) that we were on site. The administration also supported us by finding new places to meet when the library had to be used for Swine Flu isolation. All-in-all, a great place, and the only place to offer comprehensive help to homeless men.

I commend the Sulzbacher Center for finding ways to keep their many different services and departments in operation, especially in the current economic climate. They offer everything needed to help get people back on their feet. I appreciate their creative methods of reaching out to the community to raise funds. Their functions are interesting and personable. The center continues to transform many many lives, and is an important part of Jacksonville's community.

The Sulzbacher Center is a safe haven for those in need. Through the provisions that the center has made, people who are facing or on the verge of homelessness have somewhere that they can temporarily call home until the lulls of life are resolved. I totally am excited to work with and support the Center, and definately recommend it as a resource to anyone who needs shelter.

In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...

They have covered all bases and have serviced the Jacksonville community well.

One thing I'd also say is that...

I.M. Sulzbacher is the only shelter that provides meals 3 times a day, 365 days a year.

The Sulzbacher Center for the Homeless is a God-send to the thousands of people who find themselves in difficult financial and personal crises. Without the care of Sulzbacher Center, Jacksonville would have people who have no place to shelter, eat and be safe. The Sulzbacher Center helps men, women and familes find a safe-haven to get their lives in order and start feeling confidence in their future. The programs offered by Sulzbacher Center and other volunteer organizations and churches give support spiritually, mentally and physically. No one is turned away for the meals that are shared. I have served meals and talked with many of the men and famlies and I find them to be hopeful for their future because of the Sulzbacher Center. The staff has a huge heart for those sheltered there and they truely care about getting them back on the road to a productive life.

I am at Sulzbacher every Monday night helping to lead a men's group/Bible study. Needless to say the men there do not want to be living at a homeless center but they will tell you that it sure beats sleeping on the streets and going hungry. They get a place to stay, three meals a day and a helping hand to get be back on their feet. I have been involved with several of the men over the past year and I have seen a number them make the transiton out to a job and better living conditions. The ones that are still there are working on putting their lives back together, finding a job and starting over. I am thankful Sulzbacher is there to provide a safe harbor.

As a retired person I have chosen the I.M. Sulzbacher Center for the Homeless as my first choice among non-profits to support. I receive email updates from the Suzbacher Center letting me know of needed items, such as clothing, toiletries, etc. and my friends and I collect and deliver those items. I have served meals there and also helped with painting and sprucing up. I am very impressed with the overall atmosphere of the place. There is so much need and yet I always notice how the staff shows kindness, professionalism, respect, and and occasionally bring order into some very difficult situations. The Sulzbacher center feels safe to me. I never feel nervous about volunteering there. The food is good! No hungry person is turned away. Another thing I have noticed is that they know how to make use of whatever resources they have. There is no waste that I have been able to see. They really stretch the dollars there. I wish they had more funding and room to expand. The need is so great! I am thankful for The Sulzbacher Center.

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

Meeting the staff and residents. I was a little nervous going to a homeless shelter for the first time. Now I love to visit the Sulzbacher Center, and I love to hear the stories of lives changed.

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

Children's center employees, kitchen staff, administrative staff, and the Hope Team nurse.

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

do a good job of transforming the lives of the neediest residents of our community. They don't focus on the frills. They go for true transformation and REAL help.

We have been doing volunteer work for the Sulzbacher Center for nearly 3 years. The caring atmosphere encourages us to do all that we can to help those less fortunate. Our weekly pickup of Second Harvest food from participating Pizza Huts supplements meals provided by the center. By assisting with fund raising we feel that we are raising an awareness of how valuable their services are to our homeless community. To see the employees at the Sulzbacher Center interacting with the residents, stopping to say a kind word or just sharing a smile is truly heartwarming. I have never seen an employee too busy to stop and chat with a resident or address their needs. Our reward is just seeing the sparkle in the eye of an adult or child when we decorate a Christmas tree for them to enjoy. The Sulzbacher Center needs the support of our community so that no homeless family has to be turned away. The services they provide are unmatched by any other facility in the area!!

The work that the Sulzbacher Center provides for the Jacksonville homeless is truly amazing. Through their compassionate outreach to the less fortunate in our area many are helped. The joint efforts of the Sulzbacher team is truly inspirational.

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

build more buildings to house everyone who did not have a safe place to sleep. Provide additional staff positions to lessen the case load burden. I imagine the "wish" list is endless and it would be a great problem to have!

About 2 years ago, I started looking for a place to volunteer, when I came across the Sulzbacher Center, and am I glad I did. I've been volunteering there now for over a year and a half, and the changes it has made in my life are huge. The Sulzbacher Center is a place that truly cares about its clients and the homeless community. Through their active case management and top notch facility, they are able to have a real and positive effect on the homeless condition. I have a great time and feel like I'm making a difference, no matter if I'm helping to prepare a meal to serve, painting the buildings, or lending advice.

Through my employment with another non-profit agency in Jacksonville, I worked closely with the Sulzbacher Center. They do an excellent job providing the needed services for the homeless, especially as the economy worsens and more people are in need of their services. The health care clinic is a phenomenal service. It is also really wonderful that Sulzbacher makes an effort to reach out to other non-profits to collaborate in order to better provide for the needs of their residents. They have also done an excellent job assessing the primary needs of residents, and as budgets shrink ensure that the most necessary services stay (like the health care clinics and free meals for the city's homeless). I think there has also been an increase in Sulzbacher's identity within the Jacksonville community, which is very beneficial for fundraising. It is great that they have started to let people know how hard they work and all of the services that they provide. Of course, in the field of the non-profits, there is always more to do. It would be great if Sulzbacher could one day provide daycare for its residents. But, these things need money, and that is so scarce these days. I salute them for the hard work that they do!

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

do so much. The best thing to do would be to create some type of financial stability for when times get lean, like they are now.
