The Humane Society of Richland County is dedicated to the animals in its care as well as all the animals in Richland County. The Humane Society only adopts out animals that are spayed or neutered to help stop the cycle of unwanted litters of animals. They also employ two Humane Agents who are appointed by Richland County. These Humane Agents have saved the lives of hundreds of animals and improved the living conditions of thousands more. The staff is dedicated and works hard to take care of the animals in their care on a limited budget. The Humane Society also works with the local prison to train adoptable dogs. The Humane Society of Richland County is a wonderful place to find your new pet!

The Great!

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

They have helped me trap the feral cats that were dumped and have them spayed and neutered (Trap Neuter Release). I have also helped with a hoarding case trapping the dogs and seeing what conditions those dogs were in.

Ways to make it better...

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

As I am on the board, I am in a position to make changes. The Humane Society works hard to make changes in the organization as needed.

The staff at this shelter are committed to what they do, and you can tell. They go above and beyond what they are required to do and are there because they genuinely care about the animals.

I have volunteered as shelter help and as a board member of the HS for over 7 years. Throughout changes in staffing, policy and funding, the staff keeps on chugging along trying to care for as many animals as possible with a limited amount of money. The organization is funded only by fundraisers, donations and any grants that can be secured. Life in a shelter is tough mentally and emotionally for staff and animals. I commend anyone who works day to day in a shelter....it is amazingly hard, but often rewarding!

I have adopted many animals from here and sent hundreds to new homes from the facility. It is a great feeling to rescue an animal from a bad situation then be there to see it find a new family.

Ways to make it better...

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

Secure more funding for more programs and staffing. This would allow the animals to benefit from more attention and excercise during the day.
