Promote international human rights through local service to refugees and immigrants who have suffered human rights abuses.
HRI came into existence out of the concern for those individuals who seek safe haven in the United States after suffering persecution. HRI represents clients from many different countries, such as: the Democratic Republic of Congo, Somalia, Liberia, Cameroon, Angola, Ethiopia, Armenia, Iran, Kenya, Sudan, Honduras, Iraq, Uganda, Turkey, Chad, Tanzania, Burundi, Togo, and Egypt. - Legal Services provides consultation and representation at the Immigration and Naturalization Service, the Immigration Court, or the Board of Immigration Appeals for those seeking political asylum. Clients must present a compelling case for asylum, providing proof of persecution or the well-founded fear of persecution based on one or more of the following: race, religion, nationality, political opinions, and/or membership in a particular social group. Clients qualify for this free legal representation by demonstrating their inability to pay legal fees.
