Hubbard House provides a myriad of services to women, men and children who have been impacted by domestic violence. The staff's expertise and professionalism in awareness, prevention and managing domestic violence incidents is impressive. The impact Hubbard House has had in Northeast Florida is invaluable.
While serving on the Board of Hubbard House I learned a tremendous amount about domestic violence and came to understand what a strong, professional staff they have. Hubbard House was the first established domestic violence shelter in the state of Florida and has been a leader for over 30 years. One especially important part of the program is a 25+ year old Batterer's Intervention Program that seeks to end the cycle of domestic violence by helping batterer's learn better behaviors. Another important aspect of the Hubbard House program is their work with children and teens. In-school programs help children learn that violence isn't the way to solve problems and teens learn healthy relationship behavior. All in all, Hubbard House is an excellent program with an excellent shelter program and an equally excellent outreach center for non-residents. We are very fortunate in Northeast Florida to have Hubbard House.
The most publicly visible aspect of Hubbard House is the shelter it provides for victims of domestic violence. This provides an immediate benefit to victims. But, one rarely considers the fact that the victims also include children, who also have educational needs (e.g., they may need to pulled out of their regular school for safety reasons). The victims needing shelter are in desparate situations and Hubbard House helps empower them to leave their home and take back the life they deserve. But, Hubbard House is much more than a shelter. Not all victims need a shelter; but most need some level of support. Hubbard House is there to provide that support whether it be in the courts or through its outreach center. Tour the facility, listen to the stories told at the annual breakfast, or see what happens in our courts. You'll get an idea of how pervasive domestic violence is and you'll see how Hubbard House has stepped up to enable victims to regain their dignity.
Hubbard House is a top notch nonprofit organization providing much needed inhouse and outreach services to victims of domestic violence in the North Florida area. During my many years of Board service, I have had the pleasure of working closely with the Hubbard House leadership team and have seen first hand their business professionalism and their passion for the Hubbard House mission of Every Relationship Violence free. I have also served on the Audit Committee, giving visibility to their excellent management processes and fiscal accountability to ensure that funding is invested wisely in programs for the benefit of their clients. In addition to Board responsibilities, I have enjoyed being involved with Hubbard House in their community awareness and fundraising activities (annual memorial breakfast, golf tournament, awareness walk) and plan to support the organization for the foreseeable future.
Being on the board of this wonderful organization has really opened my eyes to what they do for domestic violence victims. This is a life line for those who need to get out of a dangerous situation and they save lives in so many ways. Also, how the community embraces them is truly inspiring.
I have been on the Board for the last 5 years, and I currently serve as the President. As a Board Member, I have been able to observe first hand what an incredibly vital role The Hubbard House plays in our community. The Hubbard House not only provides a safe haven to victims of domestic violence; it also provides numerous other services to assist victims in regaining their lives, their independence, and their emotional well-being. I have heard so many victims talk about how The Hubbard House saved them from enduring continued emotional and physical violence. Put in its simplest terms, The Hubbard House saves lives, and it works tirelessly to achieve its mission -- "Every Relationship Violence Free."
