All the guys do there share of work and have a strong leader in the LORD. I love to volunter and talk to the guys and hear there testimonies. GOD BLESS YOU ALWAYS. with the LOVE of JESUS a sister in the LORD.
The Great!
- The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were... Awsome and real not fake.Great people working hard to make a change in others lives with respect and exeptness not too quick to judge but always bringing order.Brothers and sisters that show how much thay want to make a true change and helping others.
Ways to make it better!
- One thing I'd also say is that... To make it better, would be to get more funds to help the shelter grow.
We are one of the families that brother paul's ministry helps out. After cooking and helping in the kitchen there is all this food that he has helpers distribute to needy families. It has been an amazing blessing specially when we don't get the hours needed at work and are short on money. We get all this wonderful food that help us get by till we get payed again. With the economy and how bills just go up is a blessing to know that there are people supporting brother paul's ministry to help does that have a hard time getting by. Just wanted to say thank you to brother paul and all those who contribute to his ministry. May the Lord bless you
The Great!
- I've seen the results of this organization in... the last 4 months.
- What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is... is all the help he offers for those that are trying to structure their lives again coming off the streets.
- The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were... outgoing and hardworking.
- If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could... help so many homeless people get off the streets.
Ways to make it better!
- If I ran this organization, I would... nothing really.
- In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are... to keep and maintain organizations distributing and supporting this non profit.
- One thing I'd also say is that... brother paul has made many changes that have improved the care of this organization.
I was a Board Member & cook, clean, pound nails, paint walls, build a garden, work the yard sales, run board meetings, bowl, play softball, solicit donations, invite volunteers, pray, talk, eat and listen.

I first came to the House of Refuge to cook dinner. The very first time I set foot inside, I knew that this was exactly where God intended for me to invest my time and talents. I began by cooking and serving dinners and then expanded my efforts into providing whatever might be needed with guidance from the director. My situation allowed me to invite my friends to help me help HRS. So many people want to do good things but just don't know exactly how to go about it. God used me to connect these two groups. So, we (me and my friends) made blankets, we carved pumpkins and awarded prizes,we went bowling, played softball, we contributed money, food clothing, household items and lots more.
I've become the "official/ UNofficial" house Mom. I join the men for dinner and other activities as often as I can.
I have been blessed to get acquainted with many of the men and learn their stories and their struggles. Sometimes just being someone they can talk to is a really big deal. Shees, I love this place!
Director Paul Williams has made HRS a safe place for the men to be. They can find support to do the things they need to get back on their feet. HRS is a great place thanks to the great staff and the willingness of the men to actively work at their own recovery.
I am currently President of the Board and HRS is clearly where I want to help out.
The Great!
- I've seen the results of this organization in... deepened faith, creating friendships, building a community of help and support with others that participate at HRS
- What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is... the men. They are working hard to be good, productive people.
- The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were... all wonderful, loving, giving people
- If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could... Help more men, reach out to families, women and children and disabled people. There are lots of people that need help to get by in today's world.
Ways to make it better!
- My experience would have been better if... I had more opportunity to present HRS to people that could help.
- If I ran this organization, I would... Have a staff member that could do case work. and have more volunteers that could mentor and/or disciple the men
- In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are... Lack of exposure to the kinds of organizations that can offer financial support. The misconception of "homeless shelter"
- One thing I'd also say is that... House of Refuge is "where the rubber meets the road" A dollar spent at HRS can make a profound difference in somebody's life. The love of God is utmost and we are a better home for it.
Over the last five years, we have seen Paul Williams as director of House of Refuge do huge things in a little place. He provides transitional refuge for men who have had little else to cling to. Along with healing spiritual wounds, he aids in the every-day practical needs by helping develop windows to employment search, provides a secure home-style environment where men can regain a sense of acceptance, self-respect, and accountability, and see a concrete demonstration of Christ's love.
Various organizations donate food to House of Refuge. The excess doesn't go to waste. The House of Refuge passes it on to the David and Goliath International Ministries (not to be confused with another organization of similar name) and Desert Hills Evangelical Free Church ministries. Over 100 needy families are served.
The Great!
- I've seen the results of this organization in... providing me with a service ministry where I can meed needs of people less fortunate than I.
- What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is... The personal contact with the director and the workers at House of Refuge
- The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were... Helpful, generous, cheerful, friendly.
- If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could... use it far more efficiently than similar government-run programs.
Ways to make it better!
- In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are... financial support, limited space,
