I have known Jane Weiner, director and "energizer bunny" for Hope Stone for about 15 years. Jane has brought vision, creativity, love, inspiration and "hope" to all who are touched by her. Hope Stone is a place of refuge, joy and enduring inspiration and fun for all who enter, young and old. I have personally benefited from Pilates, yoga, gyrotronoic, and yamana ball classes in her studio. The instructors who grace Hope Stone are all incredibly talented and knowledgeable in their particular areas. I know that Jane is an inspiration to all who desire to help others, whether it be through adult fitness classes or working with children in the many programs offered.
The Great!

Hope Stone is creative combination of all the things Jane Weiner loves: children and all people, actually; dance and all arts, actually, plus lots of philanthropy and community service. For adults, there are classes in a broad range of dance forms and movement with the very finest teachers. There is "Parent & Me" and "KP Tinies" for very young children where they are allowed to use their imagination to express themselves through movement and learn share and wait their turns. For old kids there is "Kids Play" and "KP Teens" for which at-risk kids pay no tuition. Here the self-expression continues in the safe and loving environment which Jane cultivates because she believes that "every child is an at-risk child." In fact, everyone at Hope Stone, no matter what their age or reason for being there, feels when they enter the door, that they are at home.

I am a former professional dancer who takes ballet classes at Hope Stone. I continue to be impressed with the organization and Jane Weiner, its director. Each time I walk into the Hope Stone studios, I enter a world where everyone is friendly, welcoming, encouraging, and inclusive. The dance world can be very intimidating and during the course of my career, I have never found an environment as warm as Hope Stone. When class is over, I literally don’t want to leave. Hope Stone has an incredibly talented team of instructors who take a genuine interest in the students. When I watch the teachers interact with the children in Kids Play, I am absolutely amazed at the level of patience, compassion, and encouragement given. The children love their Hope Stone experience. I see the delight in their eyes when they arrive. Each child is treated as if he/she is special. Not only do the children have a blast, but they leave with a renewed sense of self-worth. It is a joy to watch these children as their personalities explode and their spirits soar. Through its programs, Hope Stone has fostered an environment where everyone flourishes regardless of age, race, ability, socio-economic background, etc. I have seen only positive results in my own dancing since attending classes there. I am appreciative that Jane continues to strive for higher standards each and every day. The results of her efforts are evident in the quality of the facilities, instruction, productions, and overall growth. Hope Stone has definitely raised the bar in the promotion of arts and culture in the Houston.

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...
1)expand its goal of providing year-round arts education and mental health improvement for at risk youth, 2)build larger studios, and 3)reach a broader audience by touring and performing in other cities/states.

Hope Stone is making difference in childrens' lives (and those who are part their lives and to those that give to Hope Stone as well)...giving them purpose, self-esteem, confidence, safe-haven and...lest we forget, ART! These are invaluable to young people whose lives are often fragile and complicated. Making a positive difference in their lives makes a positive difference in the community. Amen to that.

Hope Stone is a wonderful community for kids & adults to nourish their soul and access the arts! I always see smiling faces at Hope Stone...no matter if its an adult ballet class, the Kids Play kids rehearsing or if I'm lucky enough to be there when the company is in rehearsals, its a good place. This past fall ('09) at the "The Village of Waltz" performance was an example of how the arts can effect childrens lives. I've never been in a room where there were hundreds of kids in a theatre and they were quietly transfixed by the performance on stage. Afterwards, the conversations & reviews overheard were priceless. By the way...with the support of generous contributions, it was possible for these children to come to the theatre, experience a live professional dance company and understand the opportunities available to them at no cost. The Hope Stone teachers, kids, dancers & the staff offer the rest of us/me the chance to be a part of something wonderful. Maybe, you might consider contributing or joining us? Who doesn't like to smile?

I have been involved with Hope Stone for a number of years, both on their Board and as an adult student of ballet. This has got to be the most welcoming, nurturing arts organization in the region. What other dance company donates an entire section of their main performance each year free to kids who might never otherwise attend an arts/dance performance?
The Great!
I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

Resign and let Jane Weiner run it. Jane has a deft hand with all three aspects of the organization: Kids' Play, Hope Stone Dance, and the studio.

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...
Add mini-versions of Kids' Play in all cities in the US.
Ways to make it better...
Jane Weiner had two studios, Hope Stone could perform a major work more than once a year, and Kids' Play could expand to other cities.
In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...
As always for any arts organization, money and space.
One thing I'd also say is that...
Being involved in community is very important and Hope Stone is there.

Hope Stone is a gem! It is an excellent arts institute and provides an empowering atmosphere for children/youth, offering dancing, drumming, musical theater. Teachers are very talented artists who work well with children. Classes are given in a non-competitive environment that encourages diversity and enhances self-confidence and self-esteem.
