Issues:

Location: PO Box 740568 Arvada CO 80006 USA

Mission:

Hope House of Colorado empowers parenting teenage moms to strive for personal and economic self-sufficiency and to understand their significance in God’s sight, resulting in a healthy future for them, and for their children.

Programs:

Participants in the Residential Program are immersed in a highly structured, 5-phase program to develop the skills which will enable them to move toward personal and economic self-sufficiency. With a capacity for 4 mothers and their children at any given time, the program serves an average of 8-10 teen mothers, ages 16-20, per year. These young women are engaged and challenged through a personalized development plan, learning to incorporate healthy routines into daily life, while living with their children and their peers in a safe, supportive group home environment. Some of the key components of the Residential Program include the following:

·         Reside in a stable home that ensures safety and health of children, with the support of trained resident staff members (who provide 24/7 coverage to the program), case management and program specialists.

·         Development of an individualized education/job training plan in cooperation with Case Manager.

·         Attendance of weekly parenting classes, taught by a trained facilitator using the Nurturing Parenting curriculum.

·         Attendance at weekly practical life skill classes such as budgeting and meal planning.

·         Attendance at bi-monthly classes in the FDIC’s Money Smart curriculum to increase knowledge of personal finances and responsibilities

·         Regular church attendance and participation in weekly Bible study and daily devotions.

·         Attendance in weekly Healthy Relationship classes.

·         Participation in weekly PEACE curriculum (aggression replacement training) designed for at-risk youth, which covers the five major components of empathy, boundaries, social skills, character development and anger management.

I am constantly amazed at the thankfulness of young teen moms who utilize the G.E.D. program offered by Hope House. They come to make a beter life for themselves and their children. They are encouraged by staff and volunteers (and other teen moms like themselves) to complete this first step and to move forward to a career that will enable them to make a meaningful contribution to society while enriching their future. I have seen the change in these young ladies and marvel at their attitue toward life after finding out that there are people out there who genuinely care about them and their children. Hope House is a candle to light the way down a path filled with new possibilites and hope. It has been a joy to serve in this small way to help another on her journey towards success. May God continue to bless you and your efforts, Hope House.

I have been volunteer with Hope House for a couple of years now. I have worked tutoring teen mom with her GED, I have given health talks at the House to teen moms, I have taught a teen to cook and find recipe's. With the time spent at hope House these girls are hungry for knowledge and to learn how to do things right and have the role models that are putting them on God's path to success. I wish that when I was a teen mom that I had a program like this one. It is such a great thing for the girls and their children to have a safe environment to be in.

As a mentor for a teen mom, I have seen the miracles that can happen because of Hope House's giving heart for these young girls. Without the support of Hope House, I believe most of the girls would be in dire straits. My teen mom, who I've been matched with for over a year now, has gotten her GED, paid all of her fines with the courts, has her own subsidized apartment, and is currently taking classes through the TANF program with the State. She is determined to go to college and become totally dependent as well as give back to those who have helped her. Hope House has been a blessing to so many people including myself.

I do volunteer work with a similar group, The Gabriel Project, and was just inspired by these ladies who help young mothers get on their feet, finish/attend school, work and raise their children. The fact is that the public school systems don't do much to help teen moms, and many of them drop out of school. Can you imagine supporting a family on a minimum wage job these days? Kudos to the Hope House for providing hope to young mothers!

working with teen moms through another organization that have the support at home or in their families. The Hope House helps those who may not have that support system, but still want to raise their children.

My first experience with Hope House was at the grand opening party for their new house almost 4 years ago. I only served cake that day but in the people I met, I saw the care and commitment that is still the center of their work. I've been hooked since then! What a wonderful ministry that serves the entire teen mother - from education and life skills to career and spiritual pathways. Since I've been involved with Hope House, I've seen them grow - literally, in the reach of their services and figuratively in the spectrum of their care and dedication. They have tremendous faith in their work and through this faith, they are changing the lives of not only the teen mothers they serve directly, but the lives of their babies. At Hope House's annual galas, I enjoy most the testimonials of the girls going through the program and how their lives are changing for the better. There is such "hope" at Hope House! I have such feeling for Hope House and their goals that I got my extended family involved as well. We are all so proud of the work that is done at Hope House and are proud to be involved.

the people I've met at Hope House. They are such a bright, dedicated, and committed group of people. I am honored that they are a part of my life and I am proud to be a part of theirs.

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

build a facility to serve the needs of their residency program, mentoring program, GED program and other classes in one place. They could also be more financially independent and spend less time fund raising and a more time on their wonderful ministry.

Mostly I write for Hope House, and, in that capacity I get an inside look at how the program was developed, implemented and how it is now working. I have also volunteered with the girls in the GED program. I am continually impressed with the professionalism, competency and effectiveness of this faith based program. Every staff member and volunteer I have met contributes to the this excellence. These girls learn to be competent, loving mothers and also learn the skills that allow them to support their children. The program breaks the cycle of poverty most of these girls have been trapped in and is so worth supporting.

I love seeing the moms interact with their children, and seeing their own eagerness to learn. One young mom I knew broke house rules and had to leave. As she left she said SHE made the mistake, not HH. She took personal responsibility.Impressive.

As a bussness owner and communtiy volunteer, I have been invoved with Hope House about 6 years now. Helping teen age mothers and fathers was a big void in our community with most of them having no place to go or support for a positive life style. Hope House is helping our neighborhood with both and many more needs. I have helped by hiring a young mother to help her with financial aid but also to give her some experience in the work inviorment. Hope house is helping our young parents finish their education, providing security, support, positive peirs and more so a place to talk to someone that understands them and their problems.

I heard about Hope House from a friend and wanted to see what it was all about and how we might be able to help as a family. My 2 boys and my husband and I went to have a tour of the facility and were so impressed with the caring and empowering manner in which it was run. The staff were friendly and passionate about their work and the facility was clean and cheerful and had an overall good feel to it. We decided to make a donation so that the girls could share a pizza lunch and to sign up to provide things for the girls when they needed a little extra help. I feel grateful knowing the teen moms and their children are supported in their journey by Hope House and its wonderful staff.

I was teen mom that overcame the obstacles and critism. It has been a long time desire to try and be an encouragement to other young ladies who have found themselves in this role. I was introduced to the Hope House program through a friend at my home church. How perfect; a teen mother program coupled with a Christian background. This program offers all involved a place to grow and to be healed by the power of Christ. All of the individuals involved in the administration of this program are loving and caring people with the girl's best interest at heart. I am so blessed to be part of this program.

I have known the staff and founders of Hope House for several years. This is a very excellent organization with great integrity. Hope House provides an excellent service to the community by helping break the cycle of dispair and poverty for single teen mothers. The support, training, counseling, structure, and environment provided to the mothers at Hope House is outstanding. They are changing the world one life at a time. They are helping these young families become contributing, successful memebers of society.
