My wife and I recently adopted our third Golden Retriever from Homeward Bound. This organization does an amazing job caring for the dogs in their care, matching the rescued dog with an appropriate family, and following up to ensure things are going well. They also offer excellent training classes.

Homeward Bound is committed to match you with the right dog for your family. Their "ranch" is unbelievable, with 8 acres of play areas for you to meet and play with available dogs. The dogs have been screened for any illnesses, and in many cases, have expensive corrective surgeries. I adopted Cody as a 7 yr old, who had been surrendered to a Marin Shelter but rescued from there by a Homeward Bound volunteer. Cody was unable to walk and had heartworm. After heartworm treatment, then double ACL surgery on his back legs...I met him and brought him home. I saw the care bill of over $6000. I often wonder if his original owner just couldn't afford the needed surgery... thank heaven for Homeward Bound. Cody is now a healthy, happy 11 year old with the energy of a three year old. Check out their webpage. They are 100% volunteer run, placed over 700 dogs last year and spent over $350,000 on medical care for the animals brought to them.
