HomeAid Houston is a charity I have been involved with since 2004. I have witnessed first hand what the projects that HomeAid has helped build have done to homeless women and their children's lives. I have read countless thank you's and have received hugs from these families needing a hand up not a hand out. I have watched our building community and vendor partners gather together to donate materials and labor to provide families with shelter that is like a real home. I have witnessed first hand what this charity is capable of doing and it is awesome.

The Great!

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

I have personally heard testimonials from many women expressing their gratitude for these homeless shelters which look like homes.

Ways to make it better...

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

Find a better way to spread the word to everyone about HomeAid Houston to the public even better than we have already done.

HomeAid America has been a tremendous asset for its 20 chapters across the United States. Their ability to provide technical expertise along with strategic relationships has allowed not only chapters to get started but has allowed them to grow and implement their local shelter development program. As an executive director of one of the local chapters, HomeAid America is a vital resource for us all and has been critical for our success in providing housing for the homeless in our community. My organization helps homeless families move toward self-sufficiency. HomeAid Northern California has brought so many resources to us -- building professionals, volunteer groups, in-kind donations ranging from appliances to food, and connections to funders. They helped us build one of our facilities and have kept coming back, year after year, to help maintain and improve it. I am continually amazed by their commitment resourcefulness.

HomeAid helped us turn a convalescent facility into transitional housing for eight homeless families. They have come back to paint, lay carpeting, donate a play structure, and perform many other services.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

Give them more staff to do their amazing work.

Homeaid came to help our program out with a much needed facility face-lift by painting our two donation buildings, cleaning the grounds, organizing our clothing rack, and planting three beautiful rose bushes. Their volunteers were outstanding people with giant hearts. They were hardworkers and got the job done quickly and efficiently. We are forever thankful for them donating their time and energy to help our program shine.

HomeAid Sacramento does a tremendous job everyday helping to provide shelter for the temporary homeless. I am so impressed with this organization and the many volunteers that provide time and money to help HomeAid Sacramento help those that need it the most. I have had the honor and privilege to work as a HomeAid Sacramento volunteer for the past seven years and I have loved every minute of it. I have done whatever I have been asked to do which includes fund raising, setting up tables and chairs and then taking them down and cleaning up after the annual Trap Shoot fundraiser, blowing up balloons for the Trap Shoot Archery game, participating in the "Essentials for Young Lives Campaign" which takes place every year January through April by picking up, sorting and delivering diapers, baby food, formula and bottles, and baby wipes to the various shelters that need these supplies for the single mothers and their babies that they are taking care of, making telephone calls to ask for raffle prizes and/or donations for HomeAid Sacramento events, selling raffle tickets this year for the Dinger's Den Playhouse give away at Raley's Field, etc. I love helping HomeAid Sacramento do whatever they need to do in order to provide shelter for the temporary homeless and this organization will always have my financial support and can always count on me to be one of their volunteers no matter what. HomeAid Sacramento has been instrumental along with the Volunteers of America organization in building and completing the only "Senior Safe House" west of the Rockies in 2009. The "Peace For Families" facility is a 39-bed, 12,500 square foot facility which provides emergency and transitional shelter for women and children was completed in 2008. These are two of the most recent projects that HomeAid Sacramento has completed with help from many donors and volunteers and which help meet a tremendous need in and around the Sacramento area. I love HomeAid Sacramento because of all of the good that they do for those that need it the most and it is truly an honor and a privilege for me to be associated with HomeAid Sacramento. Thank you HomeAid Sacramento for all that you do to make a difference in the lives of the many people on a daily basis.

many of the shelters that they have restored, and/or built such as the "Senior Safe House" completed in 2009, the 39-bed, 12,500 square foot "PEACE For Families Shelter" completed in 2008, the addition of showers to the "Winter Shelter" at Cal Expo completed in 2007 and the 154-bed, 13,000 square foot " Winter Shelter" at Cal Expo completed in 2006.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

find a way to raise more money for HomeAid Sacramento so they can do more of what they do everyday for those that need it the most and that is to provide shelter for the temporary homeless. I feel that Homeaid Sacramento is well run and helps meet a tremendous need in and around the Sacramento area.

I have been volunteering my time with HomeAid America for 8 months and in that time it has impacted my life on so many levels. I have formed new relationships, made countless connections, expanded my professional experience, and most importantly been given the opportunity to give back. HomeAid is committed to providing housing for today's homeless and has built 200 shelters nationwide. Working side by side with the CEO and many others in the organization I have witnessed and felt their dedication. When I was given the opportunity to attend a building dedication I witnessed first hand how HomeAid saves lives. As an intermediary between builders and service providers HomeAid doesn't get to experience the day to day contact with those they help. But through charity events, housing dedications, and builds it all comes to fruition. It's moments like hearing some the stories of those who have escaped homelessness and touring the housing facilities that I will never forget.

As a volunteer who has been given an opportunity to work such a great organization I am in no position to say what changes should be made. They make great efforts to see their mission through and have been very successful. And through my work I have witnessed them address areas of improvement and continually strive to improve so that they may help as many people as possible.
