The mission of Home Builders Care Foundation, the charitable construction organization of the Maryland-National Capital Building Industry Association, is to complete construction projects, with particular focus on shelter-related projects, by leveraging the industry’s specialized building construction skills and by collaborating with existing community service providers serving the homeless and other at-risk populations.
In 2011, we undertook over 9 comprehensive renovation projects with a total construction value over $500K. Our charitable construction efforts helped improve housing facilities for low-income seniors, autistic adults, formerly homeless families, runaway and at-risk youth, a gold star mother, and victims of HIV/AIDS. Over $350K in construction costs were saved with our involvement. Savings can now be applied to direct social services for clients of our partnering agencies.

Temporary/transitional housing projects - in 2014, the foundation assisted in the construction of three extensive renovation projects providing shelter and support for homeless individuals and families. Projects included: sinai house, an apartment building for homeless families, rainbow place, an emergency shelter for homeless women, and the friendship place welcome center, where homeless persons can escape from the streets.
permanent/supportive housing projects - in 2014, the foundation helped an afghanistan war widow with exterior renovations to her house, and two group homes in waldorf, md were renovated for individuals with disabilities. Additionally, the maryland center for housing, a new office building, was completed and made ready for occupancy.
community service projects - the foundation annually hosts a career clothing drive for low-income job seekers, a thanksgiving food drive benefitting a local food bank, and a holiday toy drive for children in need. Also, welcome kits filled with household essentials are prepared for formerly homeless individuals that are becoming new tenants.
