Location: 1738 Elton Rd Ste 200 Silver Spring MD 20903 USA

Mission: The mission of Home Builders Care Foundation, the charitable construction organization of the Maryland-National Capital Building Industry Association, is to complete construction projects, with particular focus on shelter-related projects, by leveraging the industry’s specialized building construction skills and by collaborating with existing community service providers serving the homeless and other at-risk populations.
Results: In 2011, we undertook over 9 comprehensive renovation projects with a total construction value over $500K. Our charitable construction efforts helped improve housing facilities for low-income seniors, autistic adults, formerly homeless families, runaway and at-risk youth, a gold star mother, and victims of HIV/AIDS. Over $350K in construction costs were saved with our involvement. Savings can now be applied to direct social services for clients of our partnering agencies.

I've been on the Board for over 10 years and have participated in many projects which have aided homeless and other disadvantaged people. I personally worked on an extensive renovation of the Gospel Rescue Mission facilities in DC for homeless men. I also worked on the renovation of several group homes for the emotionally challenged in Maryland. Our organization can be strengthened by increased recognition from donors and grantors, particularly while the home building industry is working its way out of the present severe recession.

HBCF has aided hundreds of homeless and disadvantaged people by providing in-kind donations and funds raised from the home building industry. Most of these facilities would not have been completed without our assistance.

As the state of the home building industry improves, we would like to get more builders to serve as job captains, so we could do more projects each year.

Our efforts have assisted in a very positive way a number of organizations that serve the homeless in the DC Metro area. Many of the recipients of our services are smaller organizations that might not be able to afford renovations/improvements. It is gratifying that when new homebuilders around the country are struggling to survive (and many have not) that they still find the time, energy and funds to give back to those that provide services to the homeless. A recent project of great importance was the completion of a home for TASSC(Torture Abolition and Survivors Support Coalition International).
