Home Builders Care Foundation helped my organization rehbilitate a small, foreclosed apartment building so we could provide permanent housing for single women with small children who were homeless. They played an important advisory role, especially on selecting contractor and determining the scope of the renovations needed. Then they provided funds to bridge the gap and get the project completed. HBCF has completed four such projects with us in recent years so they are a great partner.

As the coordinator of projects Home Builders Care Foundation have done for our Non-Profit, Human Service agency, I have to say that they do wonderful things for the community. Even before the turn in the economy, money has always been tight with non-profits and Home Builders Care realizes that. Over the last thirteen years, they have done several home maintenance projects for us, paying all expenses. It has been a tremendous pleasure to know this organization and know that they care about giving back to the community.

I have served on the Board of Home Builders Care Foundation since 2001. I have been very impressed by the ability of the organization to leverage the financial contributions and building expertise of its donor base to provide shelter for the disadvantaged members of our community. The Foundation is unique in that it provides through volunteer builder captains construction services that typically are beyond the reach of nonprofits or governmental agencies at a very low or no cost. The Foundation will partner with the nonprofit or governmental agency where appropriate to insure that the project benefits the ultimate clientele, whether that be a homeless shelter, transitional housing project, or permanent supportive housing. Since I have been on the Board, Home Builders Care Foundation has contibuted to the success of over 25 projects located throughout the Metropolitan Washington DC area.

I have witnessed first hand the work of Home Builders Care Foundation in making site visits and attending ribbon cuttings for the various projects throughout the area.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

Seek to obtain more funding so the work of the foundation could be expanded to include additional projects within the metropolitan area.

On two separate occassions, Home Builders Care Foundation gifted time and materials to Malta House. Malta House is an Assisted Living community in Hyattsville, Maryland. Malta House serves frail seniors with limited income and assets. HBCF replaced all of the common area carpet. The carpet was over ten years old and in desperate need of replacement. HBCF secured the vendor and gifted the carpet and installation. A few years later, we requested that HBCF work with us in transforming our residental grade kitchen into a commercial kitchen. HBCF secured two organizations that designed and installed this new kitchen. All laminate cabinets and counters were removed and replaced with stainless steel open shelving and stainless work services. Flooring tile was repaired and plumbing and electrical issues were addressed. From start to finish, all work was conducted professionally. The giving spirit and true appreciation of our seniors was apparent by all involved. Without HBCF, this work would have never been completed. We will forever be appreciative of this organization and its mission and purpose.

Our seniors at Malta House are so proud of their community. The commercial kitchen installed by Home Builders Care Foundation opens up to the resident dining room. Residents and their families were absolutely overwhelmed by look and quality of the kitchen. Many residents commented that they never had such a beautiful kitchen in their own home. The generosity and goodwill afforded to Malta House and the residents was a true blessing.

In 2007, Home Builders Care Foundation was an instrumental member of a team building additional space at our facilities allowing us to train our volunteers inhouse, saving our non-profit a great deal of money. The space is also used as a resource center and for meetings.

Rarely does one meet a more dedicated group of volunteers involved in community service than with the HBCF. It is the single most efficient organization I've ever worked with. They leverage their donor dollars with tremendous industry involvement and volunteer labor to accomplish their goals. AAA+++

The D.C. affiliate of Home Builders Care Foundation, HomeAid DC LLC, is a committed and patient partner for Building Futures' newest project, Daffodil House. HomeAid DC is providing significant financial support and helped identify a contractor to make accessibility modifications to the front entrance and first floor apartments at Daffodil House. This 30-unit property provides permanent supportive housing for persons living with HIV/AIDS and other disabilities. Most of our residents were homeless prior to moving into the property. HomeAid DC has been patient as we awaited the award of a D.C. grant for construction, which was leveraged by their grant. We're grateful for their support and their appreciation of the goals we will achieve by providing housing to an extremely vulnerable population of D.C. residents.

Homebuilder's Care Foundation has done exceptional work in the Washington region - building homeless shelters, restoring apartment buildings, group homes etc. The foundation brings together the best of the building industry - in terms of both generosity and expertise - to use our resources to help worthy orgainzations. HBCF performs a rigorous review of the organizations we help as well as a professinal evaluation of their building needs and plans. It is a great leveraging of time, money and talent to help the community

Home Builders Care Foundation takes great pride in working with local governments and non-profits to provide shelter to disadvantaged people in need. As a volunteer, I can attest to the effort that goes in to picking projects and following them through to completion -- always keeping in mind the tremendous need for beds and shelter. We call on the building industry to donate materials, labor and most importantly their time. The dollars that the organization raises are stretched many times over by the generosity of others.

The Great!

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

increasing the shelter for the homeless, battered women, and providing temporary shelter for young people.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

increase the publicity so as to increase donations.
