I volunteer at HASK whenever I can, and am delighted not only to be able to help so many hungry people get a nutritious meal and lonely, possibly homeless people spend some time in a welcoming environment, but also because it's inspiring to feel a part of something larger: the machinery of the staff and volunteers works so well, everyone with something to do, everyone helping others, it's a model of a perfect world.

I remember the first time I volunteered at HASK. The sense of community, friendship and genuine compassion between the volunteers and guests was inspiring. I left the soup kitchen feeling uplifted and motivated to do something to help this amazing organization continue to carry out its mission. With the support of my professor and classmates at NYU, we organized a fundraiser to help support this beloved soup kitchen continue to provide free nutritious meals and foster opportunities for guests to access the tools and resources needed to help them through times of transition. I can't describe how amazing it is to be apart if this empowering community of volunteers and guests. I highly recommend Holy Apostles Soup Kitchen as top nonprofit. I also highly recommend those who want to make a difference to volunteer and/or participate in fundraising initiatives that will support HASK in continuing to carrying out its mission and services to the community.

I volunteered at HASK while I attended General Seminary which is several blocks away on Ninth Ave. I found the experience to be very positive. Their guests are indeed treated as guests. The process of serving lunch is very well organized. They train and support their volunteers well. I no longer live in NYC, but I will forever use HASK as the standard when looking at other soup kitchens.

The problem of hunger is one that mystifies me. How we can live in one of the richest cities in the world, yet people go hungry. I volunteered at Holy Apostles, and I can honestly say that that brief morning changed my life. Putting a face to a cause and seeing the direct impact that this organization has on my community and city was beyond moving. I have become a large supporter of this organization and would recommend them to anyone.

Following my retirement i served as a counselor in "the trailer" which formerly sat in front of the church. Working with the guests in this intimate way was a life changing experience for me. I received more than I ever gave. HASK is a huge undertaking taken by a very small but totally dedicated congregation. I can't imagine anything more worthy of support.

The Holy Apostle's Soup Kitchen is a place within the hustle and bustle of NYC, where you can practice and experience kindness. Whether you are hungry for food, or hungry for social interaction in a compassionate atmosphere, H.A.S.K is the place to be. As a volunteer from 2009, I have encountered diverse personalities who have shaped my world view in wonderful ways. The opportunity to walk in many shoes within a short time frame is available at this non- for profit organization, and I would definitely encourage people to take advantage of such. This is a place where one helps many: you help others obtain needed services and you help yourself build and strengthen character. Pierro Ferrucci says " Be kind and you will discover who you are". Here is the place to discover yourself.

I started working as a volunteer for the Holy Apostle Soup Kitchen back in 2011 and met some pretty friendly people both volunteers and guests. However when i came back this year i had found that things had changed a bit such as Steve leaving, veterans not coming around anymore ,and perhaps the worst of all ,the church losing it's funding. Fortunately that didn't stop the Holy Apostle Soup Kitchen from continuing it's mission of feeding the homeless and proceeded to run the kitchen. During my time here i got placed in many jobs such as prep kitchen, treys, assembly line ,and wash room. So from my time working those jobs i took notice of a few things which were "extremely wholesome meals,VERY caring staff, excellent organization, great comfortable environment, and lastly having the cast amount of strength to feed hundreds 5 days every week". Likewise the Holy Apostle Soup Kitchen deserves every bit of respect and funding it gets over time from being able to run such a great place!
