I have volunteered with Hill Country Daily Bread Ministries for nearly 10 yrs. I started working in the clothing room then latter became coordinator of the household & furniture part of the ministry which encompasses everything except food & clothing. I also have been privaleged & gifted to be able to minister to multiple families through these years. The reason I have stayed with this ministry is I see God work miracoulsly in providing for families needs over & over again. There is no doubt in my mind that God blesses this ministry, the families in need, myself & my family on a daily basis. I say my family because of the much better person God has made me since serving Him in this manner. A couple examples of His work: I deliver a food box to a single working mom who tells me with pride & fear that she just signed her son up for cub scouts because she's heard it's such a good organization, She states, "I have no clue how I'm going to get him a shirt, thank God that's all they require."We pray togeather with her two children I ask God to provide a cub scout shirt for her son as part of our prayers. After I finish my deliveries, I take the food boxes back to the whse., check the clothing room per my routine at the end of the day & there lays a cub scout shirt, scarf, & clasp in the size this little boy needed. I smiled, praised God for his thoroughness (I'd only prayed for a shirt) & went back to the home for this delivery, The family was ecstatic, they couldn't believe it, the little boy then asked if we could pray that he wouldn't get sick in school any more. We did, when I went back in 2 weeks for my next visit delivery he said. "Jesus healed me, I don't get sick anymore" The amazing part of this is, that was the first & it has been the last cub scout shirt that I have seen in the clothing room. Most families in poverty don't ever consider signing their children up for extra activities, their main focus is food, shelter, & clothing, Another example of what I frequently see God do is not only provide the furniture, curtains, towels, ect. that families need, He frequently makes sure they match what they already have. He is so faithful & full of grace to His broken people. He has shown me He is truely an amazing all knowing God.

Ways to make it better...

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

Work toward having more christian volunteers, more home school students & parents, & more groups to volunteer. Seperate the furniture, household, baby, & books into differant ministries. Discontinue accepting used toys,( families in poverty generally do spend money on toys at thrift shops to bring joy & laughter to their children on a ongoing basis.) Have a donation intake person/group to sort donations.

I have been volunteering at Hill Country Daily Bread for about six years. I am in awe of the dedicated staff of this organization and the breadth of services they provide to those in need. Rarely have I seen an organization comprised of such caring, committed individuals with a heart for service and a vision to make a difference in their community. HCDB not only seeks to meet the immediate needs of those living in poverty through its numerous programs, but also strives to build relationships with the people they serve in order to help lift them out of poverty.

I've seen the relief and joy of parents receiving Christmas gifts for their children. It must be extremely stressful to have the holidays approaching and know you can't afford to buy your child a gift, but HCDB ensures that every parent they serve is provided with a special gift for each child.

expand their warehouse facility ASAP. Although a larger facility is planned, it will take time to raise the funds. Currently, HCDB is busting at the seams. Its ability to expand its programs is limited by the size of its current facility, but unfortunately the need in the community continues to grow. To maximize its potential and effectiveness, HCDB needs a larger facility as soon as possible.

We moved to the hill country in late 2006 after retiring. My wife and I were looking for a charity in the community that needed volunteers and was really doing something important for people in this area. Our first exposure to HCDB was early in 2007 when we were invited to the spring gala. To be honest we enjoyed that event, but this did not really connect for us. Later in the year we helped with the Christmas gift packaging for families and through that visit got to learn the model for HCDB and see how they were serving the community. That did it. We decided then to become weekly volunteers. My wife has been helping in the office and I've found my spot in the warehouse. It has been a real blessing for me because I've learned to be more patient in the tasks, to relish the joy that I'm getting by serving others and to have my eyes open to the blessings God is working in so many different people who are serving and being served through HCDB.

I've seen in many cases the joy of giving when I've been the individual to help unload donations that were collected for HCDB. I've also been blessed on numerous occassions to help load food and other goods into cars or trucks of people who are mentoring a family in need or in a few cases folks that were in an emergency and needed that food or clothes to make it. One of my favorite experiences are the days when I've been able to take part in the prayer circle.

HCDB needs more space for warehousing and I think with that additional space we could streamline things to make the distribution process easier. I believe there is also an opportunity to have a broader based board. Last but not least, I think the agency management could benefit from mentoring with retired business people who could have a positive input on a variety of subjects.

Since 2006, I have been a donor, family mentor volunteer and I also contract with HCDBM as their Development Consultant. This Ministry has helped me become closer to the Lord God though my hands on experience with the HCDBM mission. HCDBM helps those who are in poverty and crisis with one to one family mentoring. Each client is provided with a relationship with a volunteer family mentor who brings provisions to each family in the form of food, clothing, household goods. Most importantly HCDBM Family Mentors bring a loving, patient relationship that provides hope and faith that brings the family up and out of poverty and into self sustainability.

that I was a family mentor for two years and assisted five families become self sustaining. As a family mentor, I was the resource for families in crisis and poverty by bringing them HCDBM resources as I also connected them to community and church assistance. This brought me into the lives of the families I served and made them my friends. I have been able to see their children thrive as the family became able to stand on their own.

provide them with a larger facility with all the needed staff, warehouse space and volunteer training space so that HCDBM can provide assistance to more people in need. This is a wonderful Ministry that needs to grow because the need is growing daily.

I have been volunteering for 10 years- since the beginning when we were in a garage in Boerne. It has been a wonderful experience- fulfilling in so many ways. I have gotten close to the families and seen them through hard times and good times: helping them move into their own homes, healing of a boy with leukemia, people accepting Christ, so many things you just can't imagine. The people are wanting to learn more about Christ and appreciate the help so much. We still have lots to accomplish but with the help of Daily Bread and it's staff and mentors we can do much. We also pick up bread from HEB and our kids have gotten involved and help with deliveries as well. We all enjoy working together and with the kids. I will also be starting a Bible study in Spanish that was requested by some of the parents.

I've been volunteering for about two weeks. In that short time, I have come to realize just how many people in my local area need assistance-and how well Hill Country Daily Bread is trying to fulfill those needs. From the requests for assistance, to include: food, furniture, clothing, diapers, toiletries and Thanksgiving needs, to the spiritual focus of helping, to the rewards of volunteering.

I've felt enormous gratification helping to feed those in need; while at the same time praying that this help is received in the manner that was intended. I look forward to being able to do more. It was great to meet someone at the facility volunteering his time- who had previously been a recipient of help.

I lived in this area for about 1 year before I heard about Hill Country Daily Bread. As more people learn of the work that is done here, I would hope that more people could be helped as the number of volunteers increase.

I have been a financial supporter of Hill Country Daily Bread Ministries for several years. I currently support several non profit organizations and none are more worthy of my financial support than HCDBM. I am delighted to have the opportunity to help them financially and will continue my support in the years ahead. There is not another ministry in the Hill Country that reaches as many people with needed food and clothing. HCDBM is in need of a larger facility to expand their operations. With much needed additional financial support they can fund a building project that will allow them to reach out to so many more people in need.

Hill Country Daily Bread is a wonderful organization that provides so much more than just food to their clients. Being faith based, they are much more focused on building relationships and effecting all areas of life as opposed to many other organizations that just provide a meal. I consider donating to Hill Country Daily Bread an excellent use of resources given to me by the Lord.

Seeing the lives of people living in poverty changed. I have spoken with individuals that were once receiving aid that are now volunteering and no longer in need of aid. That alone shows me great success.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

Give them a larger warehouse for food storage, update their facility and provide them with drive in freezer space to make their freezer stocking less labor intensive.

I have been volunteering for about 10 years. I have been the coordinator of a literacy program we call Kingdom Kids Club for about 8 years. i feel this nonprofit is worth my time and energy due the hard work and focus of the people who run this nonprofit every day. The mission has grown and changed over the years to serve the needs of the population of this area. They understand what this community needs and work diligently with the few funds they have to help our community come together to address these needs.

Working with the families this organization helps. Many of these families would be out on the street with no one to care or help them if it were not for the services this organization provides this community.

They need a bigger building to house all of the different groups who work together help make this community and the at risk families successful.

My husband and I were looking to serve in a Christian based service charity in our area after we moved here. After being asked to help with the Christmas box packing, we did more research and decided to make Hill Country Daily Bread our weekly service contribution. The most impressive aspect of the organization is its' deliberate attempt to be personally involved in the transformation, through the love and teaching of Jesus Christ, to break the cycle of poverty in the Hill Country. The idea of serving the soul as well as the body is paramount to the fulfullment of the mission of Christ, and this body comes as close as we have found to making that happen. We have shared our experiences with our friends and hope to generate more and more interest in sparking their volunteer and giving efforts to Hill Country Daily Bread. God has blessed us with some wonderful new relationships through the participants here, and we are much better for it.

I have heard personal testimony from several recipients of this program and seen the growth in their lives. We have also witnessed a more loving convern for the underprivileged both in out lives and the lives of those we have introduced to Hill Country Daily Bread. People are being fed and nurtured like nowhere else we have ever encountered. The prayerful consideration of all that is taken on here is especially admirable.

Try to make the activities more efficient. Use retired business people to mentor those in positions of management to help them make their time and efforts the most meaningful and productive.
