I got to personally be involved with Herobox when my kids lived in Tyrone Ga. they volunteered and when i was visiting I helped out too. The people that run it are fantastic people. I adopted a soldier and we became friends on facebook, we still stay in touch she is now back in Texas at Fort Hood, So now I have a guy soldier, and He is very shy, doesn't share much but, I know he is probably really deserving of my support. Ryan the founder of this org. is a very thoughtful family man who has a beautiful wife and 2 handsome boys, they are a family like anyone else. My husband and I enjoyed knowing them. I live in Texas and cannot go visit, but they have my total support.

Herobox is a very special organization. What it has been able to accomplish is truly amazing and at the hand of God. The staff of Herobox is much much smaller than anyone realizes, so anything that we did took a lot of time and energy! Troop support is near and dear to my heart as my husband was deployed to Iraq in 2004 and 2006 for a total of 27 months. The service members expect nothing, but really appreciate being thought of and cared for by the civilians back home. The simplicity of actually recieving a service member of your own is fantastic. Once you decide to commit and sign up, you get that service members name and contact info immediately. So if you do have any specific questions about what to send...you can just ASK! :) The program allows you to be a part of that service members life and bring them into your family. While out in Georgia attending events to spread the word about Herobox, we met quite a few veterans. Most of them said the same thing. They all said how nice it is that we, the people are supporting the troops, and how they wish they had the same treatment in the 60's and 70's. Herobox makes it so easy for anyone to show they care about and appreciate what our American service members are doing. It's just a very cool program and I have a lot of love for it and it's current staff! Keep it up Herobox!!

the people I had the opportunity to meet. We attended many commuinty events and talked to people who shared an interedt in troop support. It was very nice to hear how much people want to show their appreciation for our American service members.

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

just great! My husband and I were on staff. Ryan Housley became a close friend of the family. Jenny Hall is also a great person with a heart for service.

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

ensure that every deployed service member was recieving a monthly care package! How awesome would that be??

i could have stayed!

I have really enjoyed sending Heroboxes to the soldiers and I know this is something that they really need not just the items themselves, but the thought that someone is thinking of them and appreciates what they do. I would also like to get more information on the HEROS on the front end, because they often do not have then time to ever respond. On the sign up for HEROS, could you have them give more information. Try a checklist with questions and ideas...things like sizes, interests such as what type of books or DVD's they want, ask them to be specific.

I figure if these men and women are doing something I do not have the guts to do, then I can at least send them some comforts from home that they more than deserve! I have had an incredible experience with Herobox. I received my soldier within minutes of registering. I sent a question a few weeks later and was responded to very quickly. I recommend the organization to everyone I know. What a rewarding experience!

I would have heard from my soldier faster, but she does not have a computer. It is not Herobox's fault though!

In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...

getting the word out.

I enjoyed shopping for my hero. It would be helpful when assigning hero's if personal information was also given such as size and intersts. I have sent boxes with no response from my recipient and I am running out of ideas.

I enjoyed buying and fixing the boxes for my HERO. It made me feel good. I did not hear from MY HERO so I don't know how he felt. I also asked for another HERO and did not get one. I was asked to help at an event but it was at night an I don't drive at night and it was a long distant from my house.

I have been attempting to volunteer with HeroBox for about nine months. I have contacted HeroBox multiple times via their website, using their specific links, to volunteer my services, and to inquire about how to participate. Every inquiry went unanswered. I never heard from HeroBox until about two days ago when I seem to have suddenly made their mailing list. I know this sounds harsh, but the instructions directly to the right of this data field specifically tell me to "be honest and candid." It prompts me to "provide details and specific examples." If HeroBox needs someone to volunteer to answer emails, I am willing to do that. I'm just not sure how long I should knock on the door. Thank you for this opportunity to share.
