Helping Up Mission of Baltimore City, Inc.
We have volunteered to help supply donations to Helping Up Mission. We participated in the Hope Tote campaign to raise donations and needed supplies. It was a great experience. Once the bags full of supplies arrived from family, friends, neighbors, etc. we filled our truck and took them to Helping Up Missions. We were greeted with great appreciation and friendly people. We actually got a detailed tour of the entire facility from Kenny Weir. It was remarkable. It is wonderful the support this program is giving to the lives of the men there. They are truly changing lives for the better. We will be continuing to support Helping Up Mission, as does our church, Dundalk Presbyterian.

I have been a volunteer at Helping Up MIssion in various capacities for 4 1/2 years. It is a wonderful mission that not only provides food and shelter to homeless men, but supports them through a comprehensive spiritual recovery program, helping them to recover from drug and alcohol abuse. The men must commit to a year of recovery while living at the shelter. During that time they are counseled, take part in 12-step recovery classes. have access to GED classes and personal mentoring, and receive job training and placement. So, Helping Up not only supplies their everyday needs, but "teaches them to fish" and to be productive citizens once their recovery is complete. I have never seen an organization that is run so well. For the men who complete the year long program, there is a very high success rate (meaning they are sober and employed one year later)--much higher than any government organization. Being a volunteer there has been a most rewarding personal experience. I would highly recommend this organization.

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...
Build more additions, and serve even more homeless men! They have made a big difference in so many lives, but I think they could do even more if they had the funds, and I know they would like to do more!

I first learned about the Helping up Mission in Feb. 2008 when my brother entered the 1 year recovery program. He had been addicted to drugs for over 30 years and was looking at going away to jail for 25yrs. Thanks to the mission they went to court and talked to the judge who agreed to let him try the program. I am happy to say he graduated a year later. We attended the Graduation Banquet and were really touched with all the stories and people we met there. Over the year he brought people home to visit on several occasions and we were truy inspired by their stories and so happy for them. We thank god everyday for the wonderful people at the mission who made such a difference in all our lives and we are amazed at how they can change lives of people who have been addicted for so long and had given up hope of ever changing. Thank you to everyone at the HUM you are truly amazing.

I have a great admiration for what Helping Up Mission is doing for the homeless and men wanting to overcome addiction. The employees and volunteers have a real heart for the men. It was a real eye opener for me when I took the tour. I have since starting giving on a monthly basis and my kids and I volunteered the last two Thanksgivings. Helping Up Mission is changing lives of men and getting them back on their feet. Keep up the good work!

I have been serving as my church's liaison to HUM. Our church has had groups of youth visit for a tour and service project the past two summers. In addition, two groups of adults from the church have visited and served dinner over the past year. Each time, everyone has been so impressed with the work done at Helping Up. Everyone there is wonderful, friendly and appreciative of the help they are receiving. It's a wonderful thing to see men helping each other and themselves. It is one thing to hear about it, but it's an entirely different thing to see it for yourself! The Lord is doing great work at Helping Up!

I was invited to attend an executive dinner at the mission and enjoyed hearing about the work they are doing. I was impressed by the speakers at the dinner who were in the program and also the tour of the facilities. Wonderful work is being done at Helping Up -- I'm sure there are many who owe their lives to this work. We will continue to donate money and hopefully, in the future, time to this effort.

I've been donating money to this organization for a while. Recently, I was invited to take a tour of their facility. I did so, and I really liked what they're doing there. They're helping men change their lives, and I love the fact that they rely on Christian principles, rooted in faith. Later on, I helped volunteer on Thanksgiving day, and it was lovely to meet more men and other volunteers. Whether you're Christian or not, I would support this organization that helps men not only fight their addictions, but also helps to make these same men productive in society.

I have not personally been able to help out with Helping Up Mission, but I remember countless times when I would visit Streetlite Christian Fellowship-Federal Hill that the changed lives at Helping Up Mission were incredible. So many of the people I had talked to during each visit had a great story to tell about staying sober and having a great appreciation towards the people there who help out and to God for helping them through their struggle. It really is a great outreach!
