The Heard Museum is a beautiful, unique institution which delights visitors to our community and continues to amaze those of us who live in Arizona. The Museum reflects the diversity of the American Indians and promotes modern artistic endeavors. It educates us and reveals relationships between "peoples" and between "The People" and the earth. It tell us stories of creation and stories of survival. The Heard Museum is a cultural feast.

The Great!

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

promoting the talent of young American Indian artists.

Ways to make it better...

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

try to buy adjoining land to the Museum so it may have slightly more space to operate events and, I hate to say it, park.

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

working with the staff of the Museum and other volunteers. It is like family.

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

always working to make the Heard Museum better.

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

improve it's endowment and bring continuity into the fiscal well being of the Heard Museum.

Ways to make it better...

more people in Phoenix appreciated what a gem the Heard Museum is and actively and continuously supported it.

In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...

attracting younger visitors.

The overall beauty of the grounds and gardens of the Herad Museum is a wonderful introduction to the the beauty of the art pieces that await inside the museum. The art, jewelry, baskets, pottery and textiles of the Southwest Indians are absolutely beautiful and wonderfully displayed. It is impossible not to come away with a feeling of awe and appreciation after visiting the Heard.

The heard is the best American Indian Art Museum in the country. Its exibits are dynamic and innovative like the Mothers and Daughters that showed the art of two related generations. The Boarding School exibit chonicles the experience of Indian students who had to leave their homes and go to "apprpriate boarding schools" are just examples. The commitment of education, learning and enabling new and innovative Native American Indian art is unparalled.

One of the reasons my wife and I picked Phoenix as a place to live was the Heard Museum and its gorgeous setting. With their great revrance for our native peoples culture and of course art, we knew we had a great museum to explore. We have never been disappointed, as members, art seekers, visitors of unique exhibits, listening to authors and other speakers and their outreach to the general community. Just a class organization.

As a life-long Arizona resident I have always enjoyed visiting the Heard Museum in Phoenix, Arizona. The Heard offers the local community as well as visitors from around the world insight into the culture and lifestyles of indigenous peoples. The long-term and permanent galleries feature articles from the extensive Heard collections. The changing galleries often feature traveling exhibits in addition to artifacts from the Heard collections. There is always something new to see at the Heard. I currently serve at the Heard as a member of Las Guias. We give guided tours of the Heard campus and galleries to our museum guests. Being part of the team of guides offers me ongoing educational opportunities second to none. As a member of The Heard Guild I work with hundreds of other volunteers at major events such as the annual Heard Guild Indian Fair & Market to expand and extend the Heard mission "to educate the public about the heritage and the living cultures and arts of Native peoples, with an emphasis on the peoples of the southwest." Please endorse the Heard Museum and help bring increased awareness of the excellent opportunities offered to the Museum visitors.

The Great!

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

the comments from the Museum guests at the conclusion of their tours and/or involvement in Heard functions. Without exception Heard visitors are eager to tell their friends about the Heard and to visit again in the future.
