Health Services Inc. provides the needed professional health care to the many uninsured families and individuals in the ALabama community who are unemployed, homeless, and have low or fixed incomes. The Social Services Department is the arm of Health Services Inc which network with charities and other health care providers to find financial support to follow up on the primary care decisions made by the primary care physicians/providers for the uninsured patient's care. Without the tremendous efforts and networking on behalf of the uninsured many of the uninsured would go without imaging needs, specialist physician care, and prescription medicines. Despite all of these efforts, there is still a great need for financial support to get patients to follow up care especially for transportation to medical care, surgery assistance, and expensive imaging such as MRIs.
I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...
daily contacts with patients as a licensed social worker and administrator at HSI.
If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...
upgrade our computer system and network with the local government to provide free shuttle bus system between the hospitals and community clinics within a 100 mile radius of HSI major clinics.
What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...
Saving lives which otherwise would be lost as a result of no health insurance.
The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...
Physicians, Nurses, Assistance, Medical record clerks, Pharmacist, diabetic educators, Licensed Social Workers for Adult Medicine Care and Prenatal Care, Fitness Program, Wellness Advocates, Senior Assistance
If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...
save 10 million more lives expecially for simple acts of transportation to medical care, prescription drugs for immediate care, surgery needs, expensive imaging, and follow up care.
Ways to make it better...
we have the finances to update equipment and add equipment for better medical care.
In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...
upgrading our technology and building equipments to make healthcare a more inviting experience for patients and staff.
One thing I'd also say is that...
More charitable networking is needed for uninsured and low/fixed income patients to extend the lives of more vulnerable populations.
