Mission: The Hartfel mission is to facilitate greater awareness of the individual through the arts, in particular the art of ballet. We at Hartfel want to inspire self-worth and a sustaining belief in each individuals ability to make a lasting and meaningful contribution to each other and our community.
  • Give Southern California residents a first-rate, professional ballet company, The JohnC Art Ballet.
  • Advance a revolutionary teaching program that makes a difficult art form accessible to all
  • Offer vital body awareness and art-conscious services to the blind, hearing-impaired, wheel-chair bound, as well as the economically and socially challenge

  • Programs: Classes are structured to focus on basic movement awareness with an emphasis on confidence, posture, and building spatial awareness skills. From this basic foundation the classes advance into formal ballet steps and vocabulary. Opportunities for serious students who wish to pursue ballet with a performance emphasis will become available as the program progresses, eventually leading to the possibility of a career as a professional member of the Hartfel Ballet.

I was enthralled and spellbound as I thoroughly enjoyed a performance by the Hartfel Ballet last year. The dancers weaved a visual tapestry that portrayed a story that enhansed the live music. These dancers work so tirelessly through long hours of rehersal and do not have significant opportunities to perform before a live audience. These beautiful dancers bare their emotions and leave them on the dance floor for us to enjoy. What a treat.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

    enjoying their performance.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

    Ways to make it better...

they had the funding to perform at more venues more often.

In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...

One thing I'd also say is that...

How frequently have you been involved with the organization?

    About once a year

I've attended several of the Hartfel Ballet performances and can attest to their artistic ability and professionalism. I greatly admire their attempts to make the arts, like ballet, more accessible to the public - especially their work with the blind and with young children. Please try to see them perform if you can and provide them valuable support!

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

Their commitment to their artistic vision and their mission to make the arts accessible to more people.

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

Professional, but warm, caring and enthusiastic about their work

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

Bring the art of dance to more people, provide valuable classes and performances.
