This is a charity I have enjoyed watching grow from helping one child into helping support an entire hospital and network of assistance for children with burn injuries and resultant scarring. Handreach has the vision to continue to grow while maintaining an excellent foundation.

The Great!

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

discussions with the therapists and MDs who I have helped train and who have returned for more information in order to provide even better and more comprehensive care to the patients in China.

I started working in HandReach about an year and a half ago. At the time, I organized a group of high school students to meet every weekend to plan and conduct activities for HandReach's charity purposes. This group eventually became the BeatBrigade, a team that utilizes music therapy and rhythm to promote community and healing. Since almost an year ago, the BeatBrigade has routinely gathered to rehearse and prepare for open drum circles. Some of the BeatBrigade members are now looking to go to the psychosocial camp in China this summer to initiate interactive drumming with patients in hospitals. Working in HandReach is both fun and rewarding. Everyone is very friendly and helpful, and shares the common goal of reaching out to help others who are in need of assistance. I greatly admire HandReach's objectives: to provide for those unfortunate a bread-and-butter staple of the American foundations -- the principle of equal opportunity, deeply rooted reverence for human life, and above all, happiness.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

interacting with many people from diverse backgrounds through HandReach fundraising events and BeatBrigade rehearsals.

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

very helpful and affable.

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

expand its influence and achieve more of its international goals.

Ways to make it better...

I had time and abilities to work on more projects and undertake greater tasks.

HandReach helps some of the most disadvantaged and most remotely situated of China's poor. Everyone thinks of China as a growing economic superpower, but there is still massive poverty and need among its people in the vast countryside. This organisation, which already punches above its weight and has the potential to do so much more, gets in among those people and their needs, which are considerable and yet little publicised by comparison with those of other disadvantaged parts of the world.

The Great!

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

...channelling badly needed money to provision for lepers in China, the poorest and most neglected of the poor in that country.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

...get it the tools to continue doing the job, i.e.money and publicity - which is where you guys come in!

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

being able to help some of our poorest brothers and sisters anywhere in the world, alongside people to whom this work means so much and who put their hearts and souls into it.

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

inspirational, more a force of nature than mere mortals!

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

transform the lives of countless people who badly need help which currently isn't coming from anywhere else.

Ways to make it better...

HandReach's resources matched its vision.

In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...

to close that resource gap. The people and the goodwill are ready to go.

One thing I'd also say is that...

nobody who helps HandReach will ever do anything more necessary - or more rewarding - in their lives.

True to its name, HandReach exists to reach out and hold the hands of children who suffer from debilitating injuries and bring them a better, normal and a happy life. I know of no other organization that works in such a challenging area, where the light at the end of the tunnel is so far away, but yet year after year continues to stay true to its founding principles and make a difference to the lives of kids who might not have survived if it weren't for the work done by HandReach.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

learning about the unfolding life history of children whose lives have been positively altered by the work done by this organization, its founder and her family!

Ways to make it better...

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

help find more money and resources that can be deployed through HandReach to serve this area of tremendous need.

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

knowing that my contributions help better the life of children in ways that are significant and life altering.

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

smart, intelligent and committed to making a positive impact towards not only the cause but also their own communities and spheres of influence.

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

literally do what no one else is doing today.. extend the boundaries of human compassion and care… provide a better and meaningful life to kids for whom every day is a challenge in survival !

Ways to make it better...

we could do a lot more.. we know of children on the cross roads of life and death who could benefit with the help of more funds and resources deployed through HandReach and seeing that happen would make my experience so much more better!

In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...

fund raising.. debilitating injuries, burn rehab usually require a long horizon of care that can become expensive… finding the money to support these activities is the single biggest challenge facing HandReach.

One thing I'd also say is that...

If you have hands that reach and a heart that cares, please join us! - http://www.handreach.org

HandReach strives to tackle one of the world's most pressing and intractable problems -- pediatric trauma injuries. The world's poorest children are at highest risk of burns and traumatic amputations, two of the very most complex and expensive conditions to treat. HandReach is committed to helping children, no matter how poor or how severe their injury, have access to full rehabilitation and a happy, productive life!

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

I've seen children's lives literally be saved. Kids have gained badly-needed surgeries, intubation, prosthetics, grafts, physical and occupational therapy, and lots and lots of love!

Ways to make it better...

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

Help it gain more funding! The work is enormous, and HandReach is doing its best to make innovative use of resources to create deep impact over the long run.

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

working with unbelievably caring, loving people to make a real difference for children suffering from some of the most devastating injuries in the world.

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

smart, committed, loving, and simply amazing! HandReach is truly bringing together some of the best hands in the world to help them reach to where the need is greatest.

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

create a worldwide network to provide desperately-needed treatment and rehabilitation for child burn survivors. There would be nowhere in the world a child could be injured that was out of reach of care.

Ways to make it better...

we could do more! It's heartbreaking to see children whose conditions are so severe that desperately-needed surgeries or treatment is simply out of reach.

In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...

Funding! Burns are simply the most expensive condition to treat, and those most badly injured are usually the world's poorest children whose families bankrupt themselves trying to get needed care but simply can't afford it.

One thing I'd also say is that...

HandReach is right there in the trenches, helping kids and families face the terror and pain of burn injuries and amputations with hope, love, and joy. Until burns and amputations no longer happen, HandReach's work will be crucial to a healthy world.
