This was the first year that Traveling Notes had added a vocal component to their week-long clinic in the Dominican Republic. Jorge and Ellen asked me to come on board and help create a program for singers to go along with their already-existing chamber music program. This was no small undertaking and many logistical issues needed to be worked out, but Ellen and Jorge were 100% supportive and did everything in their power to make it a successful endeavor. Working with both of them was a wonderful experience because of the mutual respect given to one another and the understanding that everything we were trying to do was to benefit the students. As a teacher, I would like to say that the experience in Santo Domingo was deeply moving for me. I had no idea what to expect - I arrived with just a list of singers' names and their chosen repertoire. What transpired over the course of a week was that we became a small community of musicians coming together to hear one another perform and offer feedback and support - on every level. It was great to see the progress in the students from day to day and after the final performance many of them told me how much the class had meant to them and that they had gained a lot of confidence in their own abilities. While their resources are definitely limited, their passion for singing and capacity for learning is great and I hope that we are able to continue this in the future.

Traveling Notes is a wonderful, sustainable, and portable organization that organizes music festivals in different countries to encourage young people to participate in a learning musical environment, give concerts and, at the same time, integrate themselves in the culture of the festival country.Aside from the music, it brings together different nationalities to learn what each has to offer the other in learning experiences. I have had the pleasure of seeing a youngster advance his or her musical experience to a huge degree over the short period of time he/she has to learn music reading and playing skills. A great organization!!

I have know Jorge since he became my daughter's violin teacher when she was in the 7th grade. She is now a Junior in College. Not only did he open up the world of music to my daughter, he also helped her to improve her spanish speaking skills---so much so that now when they speak to one another it is only in spanish! He additionally has challenged her musical skills. Through Traveling Notes, the HRCC international affiliate, my daughter has been able to share her love of music with people in other countries. This is a great program. If you love music and children and believe that music is truly the international language, this is a program you should support!

My daughter has been involved musically with Hampton Roads Chamber Players and has worked with Jorge and Sherie Aguirre throughout her high school years. I cannot have enough praise for their work and mentoring of young musicians. They are creative, warm and kind, musically passionate, and perceptive in their ability to bring out each young musicians gift. Jorge's choice of work is excellent, and the performances are always of a high quality. My daughter's talent was developed and fostered by Sherie and Jorge Aguirre, and I would recommend them to anyone.

My association with Jorgé Aguirre has been through through his artistic guidance of Traveling Notes, a subsidiary of HRCP. I have attended 2 out of 3 Traveling Notes Music Festivals and have therefore witnessed firsthand Mr. Aguirre's passion for music, high standards, ability to connect with young people and inspire in them the a love of good music and the satisfaction of doing well. He is dynamic and caring and revels in the ability of the young people he leads to expose others to their love of music. He does not lack for ideas and is only hampered by financial limits. He deserves widespread recognition for his efforts.

I met Jorge Aguirre in February of 2007 and was immediately impressed with his love for music and his desire to pass this love on to the next generation of musicians. He spoke enthusiastically about his vision of bringing young musicians from different countries together so that they could learn from each other and share their cultural heritage. His enthusiasm was so contagious that before I knew it I agreed to help implement this vision. That is how the program “Traveling Notes” came into existence and was adopted by HRCP as a natural extension of their existing activities. Since this first meeting Mr. Aguirre and I have organized three international music festivals and two chamber music workshops and recorded a CD with international participation. Through Traveling Notes we not only provide high-quality music education to young musicians from the US and elsewhere, we also stimulate an appreciation for different cultures and foster a sense of social responsibility in our participants. Together we have brought the love of music to more than 200 young musicians and countless audiences, especially those who do not have easy access to classical music. The testimonials of our participants are strong evidence of the positive impact our program has had on the lives of many children and young adults. Through my involvement with Traveling Notes I have become familiar with all HRCP activities and I have seen Mr. Aguirre in action under many different circumstances. He has always impressed me with the charismatic way he motivates his students and draws the best out of them, with his musicianship and his ability to convey his knowledge to others, his high standards for quality in all he does, and the respect he has earned from his students and their parents. Mr. Aguirre is the soul and driving force of the HRCP. As such he has been instrumental in the lives of many young musicians. His work is of utmost importance and deserves all the support it can get.

As the mother of one of the HRCP students, I feel privileged to be part of this unique musical family. Jorge Aguirre, with his immensely talented and giving teachers and staff, provide a musical experience like none other in this area. For this team, it is truly about sharing the music and laying the foundation from which these young musicians can pursue their dreams and share their gifts with the world. This is the real thing folks, come hear for yourself!

The Hampton Roads Chamber Players offers a really unique experience for middle and high school age string players. There is nothing else like it in Hampton Roads and the director, Jorge Aguirre, is a top notch professional who is totally dedicated to this organization. I know because I am married to him and I see how much time and energy goes to these kids! He loves music and teaching which is an unbeatable combination. There are several components to the program and the international program has so far offered our kids the opportunity to go abroad to play chamber music with teenagers from Peru, Mexico, and the Dominican Republic. Can't beat that!
