I was immediately impressed with the science class GMRI provided for 6th graders. Honestly, I don't think I have ever seen children so excited about science! Now that I've learned a little about GMRI, my wish is that its symbiotic relationship between education, research and the community continues to flourish.

It could expand its education and research operations. For example: GMRI could conduct research overseas. provide scholarships/fellowships to undergraduates and graduates. Install a field study program led by professors.

The people involved with this organization are so committed not only to their work, but to the Gulf of Maine as a whole. They realize the importance of collaborating to achieve a common goal: A Healthy Ocean Stewarded by a Vibrant & Science Literate Community.

The Great!

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

my behaviors regarding a healthy environment. (I recycle more and am more concious of my impact on the ocean & watershed.

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

the learning, every day I am there, I learn so much. This org. is so committed to learning it permeates all levels, from specific prgrams and research to teaching an intern about the way an org. like this operates etc.

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

so diverse! There are people from all over the world working to help make Maine a better place. The wide range of life experiences held by everyone make for some very open and interesting conversations.

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

achieve its goal of finding sustainable funding for thier programs. (reach every 5th & 6th grader, help every fisherman, & connect the community to the ocean in a way that inspires them to protect it, backed by world class research)

Ways to make it better...

I got a stipend as an intern.

In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...

growth. They have grown so quickly and may not have necessarily addressed little issues when they were smaller that might now be bigger issues as they grow.

One thing I'd also say is that...

I wish everyone could see the importance and the good that comes from the work they are doing at GMRI.
