I'm a foster mom for GASP and this experience has been wonderful for both me and my five dogs. They immediately accepted Demo as a member of the pack and I realized I could foster a dog long term, get attached but still be able to let go because what his mom is doing is so important, protecting our country and our way of life. I feel very privileged to be a part of this organization because it allows me to give back to those who have given so much for us, even if it is in such a small way.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

being able to give back to a soldier who is giving so much for our country.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

While this organization is incredibly awesome, it saddens me that more people in general don't know about it and that sometimes a soldier feels like their only option is to surrender their precious pet to a shelter because they can't find anyone to take care of them while they're deployed. It's heartbreaking to me. I know they're doing everything they can, and I tell anyone who will listen.

I cannot say enough wonderful things about this organization. We found out my husband would be off to Afghanistan in 3 weeks for about 14 months just 5 days after we had found out I was pregnant with our third (surprise!) child. We were living over an hour away from my place of employment and my children's school so it was decided my children and I would stay with my parent's during the week and at home on the weekends. This meant keeping our two dogs during the time of deployment would be impossible as my mom could not take them and they couldn't be home alone 5 days a week. Giving them away or taking them to a shelter was out of the question as they are part of our family and that would have devestated my children.

Originally my inlaws stepped in and volunteerd to keep the dogs for the entire deployment but 3 months into it they decided they could no longer keep their commitment and abruptly told me to come pick up the dogs and would not keep them even for a couple of days so I could find alternate arrangements. I cannot tell you what turmoil this caused in my already super chaotic world.

Desperate I turned to one of the SSGs of my husbands home unit to see if he knew of anyone that could help me out. He went on Google and found GASP. I filled out an application that night and had a response from them the next morning. I had asked that my dogs be kept together if at all possible but I would be willing to split them up if necessary. I was advised it would probably be very difficult to keep them together but they would see what they could do. Within an hour I got another email from GASP letting me know they had found someone who would take both my dogs and they got me in touch with her that day.

Our Angel is Barb. She stepped in and took my dogs into her home as if they were her own. She never accepted a dime from me for anything (I tried really hard, trust me), sent me updates and pictures frequently and let me and the kids come visit the "furry" kids whenever we could. To this day, Barb is still a very important part of our family. She will take the dogs whenever we go on vacation and we keep in touch frequently. She will be in our lives forever.

I can never thank GASP and Barb enough for everything they did for me an my family during a very difficult time in our lives. Thank God for organizations like this that allow families to keep their animals during a very stressful time and thank God for people like Barb, who open their hearts and homes to our pets as if they were their own.

I have had 2 foster dogs. One was only a few months, but Deycon will be here for about another year.

It broke my heart when my Navy daughter had to get rid of her cats before her deployment to Kuwait. I'm allergic or I would have taken them. I think she had an easier time handing her infant son to me.

This organization makes sure our service men and women have one less worry and will still have their fur family when they get home.

I am honored to help those who put it ALL on the line for us.

Fostering Nikki has been one of the best experiences my family has ever done. Both of Nikki's parents are deployed and so is my husband. Nikki came to stay with us the day before my husband deployed. She has really helped my kids (ages 2 and 4), deal with Daddy being gone by giving them something else to focus on and care for. She has become a very important part of this family.

our everyday life. We volunteered to help another soldier and it's meant so much more to us.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

Promote it more through the FRG's because a lot of soldier's and families don't know it's available.

I am very disappointed in this group. My Sister called them to see if they could help her while she is deployed and was turned away. I can not keep her cat if I could I would. She is serving and has served for many years and is upset she will have to give him away. She is in the San Diego area and is getting ready to go to Iraq sadly she won't have her jack to come back to. So postive feed back I have NONE! Sad, BB

BB have sent you a private message requesting more details as to the situation. As with any nonprofit organization with limited resources we may not be able to help everyone, but we just don't turn our military service members away, but do explain to them as to why we may not be able to assist in their specific situation (no foster home available or time constraints in locating and placing a specific pet into a specific foster home. If we are unable to assist we do provide suggetions as to other organizations with similitar foster home programs that may be able to assist them. Please contact me so I may ask additional questions in regards to this situation. Respectfully, Linda Spurlin-Dominik, Founder/National President, Guardian Angels for Soldier's Pet.

As the poster did not or would not provide us with specifics such as the pet owner's name and/or the pet or pets involved names, we are unable to confirm that what has been posted actually happened, as mentioned in the July 12th comment, what has been posted is not how our process works or is handled. The only thing we could determine was this supposedly happened to a military service member located in CA, whereas the FH coordinator is an experienced coordinator who has been with our organization since 2006 and coordinating FH home placements in CA since Sept 2009. Last communication with the poster was was going to CA to pick up the pet and bring back home to care for til her sister returned from the deployment.

After seeing their story on NBC Nightly News I knew I had found an organization that was completely worth. I didn't realize how worthwhile it was however until I got our first foster dog. Fortunately our case is different and his owner was just needed at a different post in the States. There has never been a moment when I wasn't able to get in contact with some one from GASP if I needed anything or had any questions. The best part is knowing that every day you're making a difference in a soldiers life and making it one less thing that they need to worry about. I'm so pround to say that I'm a volunteer for this organization!

I just started volunteering for GASP but as soon as I saw a story about them on my local news station I knew immediately I wanted to help! In two weeks I will be fostering a wonderful dog for the next year and I'm so excited about it. I even got to interview a potential foster parent who is now in the process of getting her own foster dog. No matter what your view is on the war these soldiers need our support! And what a wonderful way to show them how much we care by taking care of their pets.

seeing the look of relief on the soldier's face when I told her I'd be happy to foster her dog while she's in Afghanistan.

I've had such a wonderful time helping out this great organization. Since I started they've helped hundreds of soldiers keep their pets. Image the joy of coming home to a loved dog or cat after a long hard day at work. Now imagine the joy that comes after a year at war. It's really a great thing their doing.

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

keep every military pet across the United States displaced by deployment or emergencies with it's original owner. Imagine the joy that would bring.

I have really enjoyed being a part of GASP. It is wonderful to see how many people support our military whether they support the war or not. I come from a military family and I wish this would have been avaiable to us back then. Pets make a house a home, so being able to have your pet back after deployment or hardship, makes everything so much easier. I cannot wait to continue my support of GASP and see how far we can grow.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

seeing about 5 pets find foster homes.

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

getting involved in other military/animal organizations and spreading the word amongst us.

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

caring and giving every day. Everyone is an animal lover and you always know the pets' best interests are in the hearts of everyone here.

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

finally finish the sanctuary and no pet would go without a home and then a safe return to their owner.

My experience is new, and all so positive. I reviewed the website and found all of the information I needed to make an informed decision. My final decision, THIS IS A GROUP I WANT TO BE PART OF and I volunteered. For example, my application was reviewed by the founder and CEO within the day and we had a telephone conference the next day. I look forward to my new position as National Volunteer Recruiter~these people are making a positive difference in solider's lives.

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

outstanding and professional in their mission to share the purpose and goals of Guardian Angels for Solider's Pet.

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

franchise it's philosphy and common sense approach to working as a volunteer organization.
