After seeing their story on NBC Nightly News I knew I had found an organization that was completely worth. I didn't realize how worthwhile it was however until I got our first foster dog. Fortunately our case is different and his owner was just needed at a different post in the States. There has never been a moment when I wasn't able to get in contact with some one from GASP if I needed anything or had any questions. The best part is knowing that every day you're making a difference in a soldiers life and making it one less thing that they need to worry about. I'm so pround to say that I'm a volunteer for this organization!

The Great!

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

Foster care and seeing the soldiers come home to their pet.

I just started volunteering for GASP but as soon as I saw a story about them on my local news station I knew immediately I wanted to help! In two weeks I will be fostering a wonderful dog for the next year and I'm so excited about it. I even got to interview a potential foster parent who is now in the process of getting her own foster dog. No matter what your view is on the war these soldiers need our support! And what a wonderful way to show them how much we care by taking care of their pets.

seeing the look of relief on the soldier's face when I told her I'd be happy to foster her dog while she's in Afghanistan.

I've had such a wonderful time helping out this great organization. Since I started they've helped hundreds of soldiers keep their pets. Image the joy of coming home to a loved dog or cat after a long hard day at work. Now imagine the joy that comes after a year at war. It's really a great thing their doing.

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

keep every military pet across the United States displaced by deployment or emergencies with it's original owner. Imagine the joy that would bring.

I have really enjoyed being a part of GASP. It is wonderful to see how many people support our military whether they support the war or not. I come from a military family and I wish this would have been avaiable to us back then. Pets make a house a home, so being able to have your pet back after deployment or hardship, makes everything so much easier. I cannot wait to continue my support of GASP and see how far we can grow.

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

getting involved in other military/animal organizations and spreading the word amongst us.

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

caring and giving every day. Everyone is an animal lover and you always know the pets' best interests are in the hearts of everyone here.

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

finally finish the sanctuary and no pet would go without a home and then a safe return to their owner.

My experience is new, and all so positive. I reviewed the website and found all of the information I needed to make an informed decision. My final decision, THIS IS A GROUP I WANT TO BE PART OF and I volunteered. For example, my application was reviewed by the founder and CEO within the day and we had a telephone conference the next day. I look forward to my new position as National Volunteer Recruiter~these people are making a positive difference in solider's lives.

I have experience great reviews about this organization and have Guadian Angels For Soldier's Pet as a referral. I am deployed and just lost all three of the families that are on my per careplan while serving in Afghanistan. I am wondering if anyone may be able to assist with my pets who have been placed in a Kennel. To complicate matters, my residence is overseas (Heidelberg, Germany). My dogs would be so relieved to get out of their cage and not be stuck there for the six months remaining our deployment. If there could be any assistance, I would be soooooo appreciative...as well as my girls-Zoi and Sugar. If possible contact me at jill.henderson@us.army.mil, and jjhendoo@hotmail.com.

Hi All, I am currenly fostering 2 cats for Guardian Angels for Soldiers Pet. This unique experience has shown me that its possible to be a foster mom and still not have to worry about gettng too attached. These 2 precious babies are spoilt rotten and I am helping to further that. When they get to go home they will be able to say that they had a good place to stay til mom came to get them. I know its hard to take an animal for a period of time while their soldier mom or dad is gone but when they see and hear that same soldiers voice there is no way you can deny they know mom and dad. If there is nothing more that I can do but open my home to a soldiers pet I will do it over and over because the unconditional love they that pet gives while it spends time in your home can never be changed. They help you get thru your day ad add ountlss memories to your life tha will stay with you forever. So open up ,take a chance and share your life with a pet for awhile, you will be glad you did. I am.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

taking in soldiers pets and then reuniting them when the soldier completes his/her duty time.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

do nothing different except find more volunteers and suppliers to help with the mission of supporting our troops by caring for their pets.

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

the special time I have with the 2 foster cats in my care.

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

caring, responsible people who have the pets best interest at heart first and foremost.

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

build the sactuary that is in the works and make sure no soldier had to surrender their pet because there was no home for this pet while the soldier was deployed.

Ways to make it better...

I had more room and could take on more pets.

In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...

not enough knowledge out there about the organization and not enough voluntees.

One thing I'd also say is that...

these people have the biggest hearts and go out of their way to support the soldiers, their pets and the families.

This organization is so hands on, caring, over the top. Everyone that volunteers for this organization stretches theirself to the limit on finding foster homes for the military service member that has applied for assistance. Countless hours are spent making sure a military service member leaves for his tour of duty knowing that his pet's are safe and will be there when he returns.

The Great!

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

many service members happy voices over the phone that I have found their pet a foster home that they loved just as much as I did.

Ways to make it better...

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

have to move to AR into Linda's home and will probably never get any sleep ever again. :)

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

the hands on experience. The assistance for help, if needed, by another member is right at my fingertips.

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

absolutely fabulous. Everyone has the same goals and desire and strives for the same accomplishments.

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

build it's pet sanctuary in Arkansas. This sanctuary is for pets that we can not find foster homes for. Which does happen and it breaks my heart that these military members looked to us to help them and we just had no one that could take their pets in the state they lived in. With this sanctuary, these pets would live in a home environment until their owner returned.

Ways to make it better...

I have not had any bad experiences with this organization and I have been with them since April of 2008.

In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...

funding. We are always, always, always in need of funding. We need money to help with pets that we might have to board until a foster home comes open. We have service members going through a financial hardship and might have to assist them with pet food or even boarding. We need money to assist with the sanctuary being built. We need money to maintain the website, office, phone service, etc.

One thing I'd also say is that...

I am so proud and honored to be a part of this organization. I am honored to be helping our military service members pets be placed in a loving, safe foster home while they are fighting for our country. I love Guardian Angels for Soldier's Pet, our military, and all the pet's!
