I heard a about GASP from a local news station and just had to help them. What a wonderful thing they do! I had never thought about the pets of the brave men and women fighting for our country and the fact that they might have no where to go when their owner deployed! I quickly signed up to foster and our family has happily been able to foster twice. It has been such a rewarding experience to be able to provide a safe and loving (temporary) home for these dogs while their owners fought for our country! Thank you so much GASP for remembering the "other" family members of our troops!!

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

Seeing how grateful soldiers are knowing their pets are safe while they are away at war!

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

Give them more money so that they are able to spread the word about this program.

GASP is a wonderful organization! We wish more people knew about this program, so more military service members could access the services that are offered. 4-H members in Oklahoma are doing their part to raise awareness of this program!

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

Personally knowing military service members that have had to give up their pets because there was no one that could take them.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

make sure that more people knew about the wonderful work that is being done to support our service members, their families, and veterans.

I currently foster to dogs, a greyhound and a pit bull, for a deployed military couple. When I was in Afghanistan, I was lucky that my parents could care for my dog but not everyone has that option. While it's been challenging at times (goodbye my favorite slippers!) it's been one of the most rewarding things I have done. To know I have given peace of mind to two soldiers serving their country is a wonderful feeling.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

the fostering of the two dogs. I know how happy the owners are that they are in loving home and well taken care of.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

More outreach so more military personnel know about what it offers.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

seeing the look on a soldier's face when they are reunited with their pet!

I have signed up to be a foster home for a soldier's pet in NY. I have not had the opportunity to do this yet but one day my services may be needed.
After having a brother and son currently serving in the US Army i know how hard it is for families to be separated. I can only image how hard also it would be to leave a beloved pet behind. (Being a pet owner myself). This organization helps take one more burden off the minds of our deploying soldiers. It is a great cause and well organized unit.

I first learned of Guardian Angels For Soldier's Pets from the evening news. The news story showed a brave soldier fighting over seas and taking joy in watching a home videos of his dog playing in the water with his GASP foster family in the states. I knew I had to be a part of this wonderful organization. I submitted my application.

I am so proud to say that my famiily and I are now a GASP foster family. We are waiting to find out if we will be fostering a sweet pup named Addi.

I am very impressed with how professional and compassionate this organization is. They want what is best for the soldiers and their pets as well as fosters and their families. A pet will be placed with a foster family that is similar to their own family so there will be a smooth transition for everyone involved. The New York Director of GASP is a wonderful woman with an absolutely enormous heart! I will gladly be a GASP volunteer to give something back to those who give so much.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

Contact with the NY director of GASP and review of potential foster pets. My family and I are waiting to be chosen as a foster home.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

Advertise more.

I am a nurse and worked for 34 years in ICU, ED and taught eldercare. And learned early on that pets are a very important part of wellness, and coping, and families. I remember with tears the day we brought an elderly spaniel up the back stairs to lie beside his elderly human for one final time. And that dog knew he was saying goodbye. Last year, as I started retirement paperwork, I read an article in our local paper about GASP. And my heart thumped as I realized, I could do this. That I truly, really, wanted to do this. I could apply and foster a pet for our service personnel. My son in law, and nephew are both in the Airforce. By doing this, I could help pay back a small part of what our service folks are doing for us. The application and screening process reassured me that GASP is truly committed to the goal of fostering in a very professional way. I believe that this organization is worthy of our continued support. I am impressed by the comprehensive backround information that is provided to me in every email request for a foster home. And grateful for their prompt communication. And especially thankful that an organization such as this, exists.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

being comforted by knowing that, one pet at a time, through this organization, a family can stay together.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

try to link animal shelters and veterinarians to local VA support organizations to help provide more foster homes, in a more widely publicized way.

This is my first time fostering a dog for one of our service personal. This has been a great experience for my whole family. It makes you feel good inside knowing that we are helping our service personal. We have fostered a siberian husky named Addi. Her owner Max has been very grateful that this program is available or he would have to give up his dog permanently.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

very positive way.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

Don't change anything, The adoption process is very streamline and thorough.

I volunteered for GASP and also have fostered two dogs in 2009. The organization takes in pets for soldiers who are being deployed and finds them foster homes until the soldier returns. They will go through great lengths to assure the safety of the animals. At times, a foster situation cannot be done for an entire rotation, so GASP will find another home for the pets. I am one of these cases. I had found a foster family for two large dogs that belonged to a soldier who deployed. After about 6 months, the arrangement did not work out any more due to the fact that the fostering soldier dad also deployed and the foster mom could not handle their kids, their dogs and cats and the two foster dogs. When we were unable to find a new foster family (back then the program was not as developed as today and less foster families available) my husband I decided to add the two boys to our pack of 6 dogs. Their soldier mom returned another 8 months later and was happy to pick up her boys safe and sound.
That's what GASP is all about - caring for a soldier's pet and ensuring its safety by all means necessary.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

the pets I helped and the people I worked with.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...
