I recently learned about this type of dog breed as well as this Nonprofit. It is wonderful news to know there is a special group of people seeking forever homes for these wonderful companions.

This is an awesome group that helps place retired racing greyhounds in their forever homes. I have adopted one from them 7 years ago and another one 3 years ago. Their on going commitment to the health and safety of these dogs is amazing. They stay on top of the needs of the various dogs and the families that adopt them.

I was so impressed with GALT, I wrote a book called "A Tale of Two Tails" about adopting two greyhounds through them. They are the most dedicated group of people whose main concern is making the sure the greys are placed in good loving homes. The volunteers are all dedicated to the dogs. They go way above and beyond what a rescue group normally does to help place dogs. Should something happen that the "forever home" can no longer take care of the greys, then they take them back to help find another home for them. I would highly recommend anyone to them. They know the dogs and help find just the right one for you to meet your needs.

I had an aunt who adopted two greyhounds. They were excellent pets!!! I am so glad they were made adoptable after their racing days are over. Knew a friend who had one, she would often bring her dog into our store, awesome dog. The owner became very involved in the program after adopting them. These dogs are so lovable and well- behaved. They are so beautiful when they run. Everyone should learn about these precious souls.

I've been involved with (and adopted from) Greyhound adoption groups up and down the East Coast, and I follow a number of them through private chat groups , Facebook and community boards, all over the world. GALT is the cream of the crop of adoption groups - they are very active, organized and completely devoted to the dogs that they bring into their group. They are racing-neutral and are devoted to adoptions, rehoming, and always there to give a caring loving hand to the dogs that have been found and did not have the right owners and had medical issues and needed much care, Galt was there with a caring hand till all was OK and placing these dogs in loving forever homes as well as supporting and educating the families that adopt them from GALT. Their members are very devoted, giving time, dollars and caring advice. If I lived closer to GALT I would adopt my next greyhound from this very caring group. I have only been able to help GALT in Auctions but if I lived closer it would be a honor to be able to be a volunteer for GALT.

I've been involved with (and adopted from) Greyhound rescues in Florida and Canada, and I follow a number of them through blogs, Facebook and Websites, all over the world. GALT is the cream of the crop of rescue groups - so active, organized and completely devoted to the dogs they serve. They are racing-neutral (meaning they leave personal opinions for or against greyhound racing out of their messages) and solely devoted to rescuing, healing and placing these dogs in loving forever homes as well as supporting and educating the families that adopt them. Their members seem so devoted, always contributing their ideas, time, dollars and caring advice. GALT seems to garner attention worldwide for their efforts, which helps spread important messages such as spay and neuter, and rescue not purchase. Wish I lived closer as I would surely adopt my next hound through GALT.

I have watched and learned so much from being "friends" and "following" this group on Facebook for the last few years. Not only do they do everything they can to place the greyhound in fantastic, loving homes, but the fundraisers are often and very beneficial. They obviously love the breed and want only what's best for our four-legged friends. Even though I live far away from GALT, I know that I will consult with them first when I decide that it's time to adopt a greyhound.

I love GALT... I may be all the way up in Alberta, Canada but I love the way they will take in any dog regardless of it's lineage, background, medical status or history. The work they've done for Lurchers and Coyote dogs makes me smile everyday - we have a lot of the same problems up here with farm greyhounds and the care and love they give these dogs is boundless!

I've volunteered with GALT to help arrange and transport injured greyhounds from the track which is south of Houston to their location in Dallas. They truly care about all of the hounds that pass through their doors. WIth very few - if any- exceptions - GALT will not turn away a hound from their program. If they can't for any reason accept the hound - they will help find another program that will. GPA-Houston is proud to work in conjunction with the very professional and caring folks at GALT. They have an exception and well earned reputation in the greyhound community.

I became involved with GALT apron 2 years ago. I have volunteered with them , along with another group - to help transport several greyhounds with broken legs from the Gulf Greyhound race track - which is south of Houston - to their location which is up near Dallas. This takes coordination of SEVERAL parties. GALT is well know for it's ability to work with all aspects of the effort to help get retired racers into loving and responsible homes. From the volunteers - to the breeders to the folks at the track - you say the name GALT and a sigh of relief and thanks is audibly heard. We know that the dogs are in good hands. We know that what ever it takes to make that happen - will be done. It will be taken care of, arranged and organized and accomplished in a timely fashion. As a volunteer - being a part of a group that is this committed makes every effort, every rescue, every transportation pick up and drop off - run as smoothly as possible. I LOVED being able to work with by my home/local GPAH group and RIGHT along side with GALT. It's an honor to be part of their team.

THE GALT is a wonderful organization striving to make a better life for these incredibly noble and soulful dogs who are basically used up and thrown away once their racing days are over. As one privy to the joys of Greyhound rescue ownership, it is just great that an organization such as GALT with all the dedicated members truly care for the hounds and find them forever homes
