GREYHOUND ADOPTION LEAGUE OF TEXAS INC

As a financial donor, it is important to know the Mission of an organization; to see the members of that charitable group act proactively to bring that Mission to fruition and to see the organization grow not only in members, but also in success stories. GALT (Greyhound Adoption League of TX) embodies this model. When describing "why" someone should donate their time or money to GALT; I simple explain the "Three R's: RESCUE, REHAB and REHOME". Without fail, GALT is there for ANY sighthound (retired racers, lurchers and unregistered greyhounds) in need: legally taking possession of the hound and obtaining the neccessary medical care to stabilize the dog before placing them into foster care and ultimately, a FUREVER HOME. It takes great skill to bring a group of volunteers together to achieve a common goal. GALT has not only completed this task...they have mastered it. Clearly, IT IS ALL ABOUT THE HOUNDS with GALT!
The Great!
I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...
reading the multiple success stories of the dogs that have come into their care as evidenced by: the surrender of the hound; addressing the medical needs/charting the recovery and wellness of the hound and ultimately, the placement of the hound.

What specific problem, purpose, priority, or project prompted your gift?
GALT provides medical care to the hounds, regardless of the need or cost. Vet. care is costly...and can easily put an organization out of business. Financial assistance is always a welcome "gift".
Why did you make your donation at this time?
Someone had recently helped me when I was having a medical crisis for my personal hound. I wanted to repay their gift however; it was refused. I chose to hold a fundraiser in an effort to "PAY IT FORWARD" for the kindness and financial assistance that was shown to me.
What would you tell others about this organization?
If you need an example of what a 501c3 should be...please, follow GALT's activities/examples of caring for the hounds; creative fundraising and membership recruitment. This organization is run like a "FUN" business...and that business is taking care of the discarded hounds.
I adopted my greyhound this past February. GALT was wonderful to work with. The process was easy and pie and now I own a wonder, sweet grey. I enjoy the news letters, as well as the fundraisers to help with the vet bills for some of the incoming greys who need medical attention. I look forward to possibly adopting another grey and working and/or volunteering for this wonderful organization in the future.

We adopted our first greyhound 3 years ago from another organization. When we decided to adopt another greyhound this year, we reached out to GALT. We have been amazed at this incredible group of people who have dedicated their time, dollars and hearts to helping a breed considered by some to be disposable. They spent time getting to know us, meeting our family, including our other greyhound, and answering our questions to ensure that we found the right fit for our family and lifestyle. We ended up adopting a hound who was injured during a race on a track near the gulf coast. GALT volunteers transported him to the DFW area, sought medical evaluation for his badly broken leg, and after it was determined that the leg should be removed, they made sure he got the necessary surgery and then the post-surgery care and love he needed to heal. He had wonderful foster parents who cared for him until he hopped into our lives. We've been loving him ever since and he has become a special part of our family... we can't imagine our family without him now and we have the wonderful folks of GALT to thank!

I love GALT... I may be all the way up in Alberta, Canada but I love the way they will take in any dog regardless of it's lineage, background, medical status or history. The work they've done for Lurchers and Coyote dogs makes me smile everyday - we have a lot of the same problems up here with farm greyhounds and the care and love they give these dogs is boundless!

I've volunteered with GALT to help arrange and transport injured greyhounds from the track which is south of Houston to their location in Dallas. They truly care about all of the hounds that pass through their doors. WIth very few - if any- exceptions - GALT will not turn away a hound from their program. If they can't for any reason accept the hound - they will help find another program that will. GPA-Houston is proud to work in conjunction with the very professional and caring folks at GALT. They have an exception and well earned reputation in the greyhound community.

I became involved with GALT apron 2 years ago. I have volunteered with them , along with another group - to help transport several greyhounds with broken legs from the Gulf Greyhound race track - which is south of Houston - to their location which is up near Dallas. This takes coordination of SEVERAL parties. GALT is well know for it's ability to work with all aspects of the effort to help get retired racers into loving and responsible homes. From the volunteers - to the breeders to the folks at the track - you say the name GALT and a sigh of relief and thanks is audibly heard. We know that the dogs are in good hands. We know that what ever it takes to make that happen - will be done. It will be taken care of, arranged and organized and accomplished in a timely fashion. As a volunteer - being a part of a group that is this committed makes every effort, every rescue, every transportation pick up and drop off - run as smoothly as possible. I LOVED being able to work with by my home/local GPAH group and RIGHT along side with GALT. It's an honor to be part of their team.

GALT does an amazing job of taking in any greyhound and helping them to get proper medical care when needed, loving foster homes, and carefully selected forever homes. They are professional and do amazing work to get support for the cost of what they do with great marketing efforts that take a lot of volunteer coordination. The love for the hounds is clearly their biggest motivator, and they do a wonderful job helping bridge the gap for these special creatures between the track and life as a dog, or sometimes unknown origins and horrible neglect and/or abuse. The fact that no hound is turned away is one of the most amazing things about this great organization. I am have two beautiful greyhounds from them, and they are wonderful companions. Can't say enough good stuff about this group!

GALT is hands down the most amazing animal-welfare nonprofit I have been interacted with. We have rescued many dogs over the past twenty years, and GALT hands down was the best agency to work with. We adopted a greyhound with them in the Fall of 2011 and I continue to follow their work to this day. They are 100% dedicated to their greyhound rescue work. For a volunteer-run, non-profit, they operate with the professionalism of a big corporation. The efforts they go to for the sake of greyhounds are admirable. They are a role model for all animal welfare agencies.

I became involved with GALT March of 2012 as a foster parent. GALT was highly recommended to me by friends and associates. I am truly impressed with my experience’s working with this Non-Profit Organization. They are always available for support. We discuss openly the joys and challenges we face each day. Their hearts, loyalty and drive are in it for the right reasons, Greyhounds! They are business savvy, sharp and intelligent. They are very committed to saving, nurturing, and sharing the wonderful experience of owning a Greyhound(s) to anyone with an open heart.

GALT is a wonderful organization with dedicated people who work tirelessly to make the greyhounds lives better. GALT has saved many, many greyhounds, an extroidinary number the last few years in a bad economy ... somehow they find the money & resources to help these gentle dogs heal in order to enjoy a better life. My two furbabies are from GALT. WE LOVE GALT ♥

We adopted our Sweetie 4 yrs ago, from GALT. Since then we have adopted Johnny B and Barnaby. GALT is the most wonderful group of people in the Greyhound rescue organizations! They are always there for you, if you need assistance, they also are always finding ways to get everyone together for the hounds! I am a better person for being allowed to know these wonderful giving angels!

We have adopted 2 Greyhounds from GALT. Their devoted service to the Greyhounds is more than anyone would ever imagine. Their Foster program exceeds all others. I have never seen or been around such wonderful, caring thoughtful people. Everytime they have an event, such as a meet and greet or fund raiser it is a total experience of fun and devotion to the animals. They are relentless in the care and finding good decent forever homes for each and every Grey they can.
