FANTASTIC local opera company bringing in national and local talent. The only thing holding this company back is a lack of funds and a need for more support from the community it enriches.

The Great!

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

I first enjoyed Greensboro Opera last November when they presented a charming, beautilyy sung "La Traviata". A shortage of funds had necessitated cuts in spending. They wisley chose to focus foremost on quality singers and created a memorable evening. I am eagerly awaiting their next production. Surely this organization is worthy of full support as an important part of Greensboro's arts scene.

I had previously attended touring opera productions of questionable quality, so I didn't know what to expect from the new Greensboro Opera. However, from the first downbeat of 'La Traviata', starring the as yet not well known June Anderson, I was hooked. Productions have exceeded increasing expectations, and the 'Opera at the Carolina' (theater) program, for 5th grade students, has been making opera fun for many years. The new defunct summer opera camp for middle school age children was also very successful.

Greensboro Opera is a gem! In addition to staging quality performances of famous operas for local audiences they also are engaged in reaching out to our school children - many of whom would never otherwise have the opportunity to see live theater - to provide a view of all the exciting aspects of opera. I've seen the looks on the faces of those youngsters as they are drawn into the story being presented. It's a whole new wonderland for so many of them. In both education and entertainment we can count on Greensboro Opera for a fun adventure!

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

the dedicated, motivated, talented people who participate in the various facets of opera.

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

wonderful giving, caring, talented, motivated people.

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

bring a broader exposure to this beautiful art form that is still not always so easily accessible to many.

Ways to make it better...

we could have reached even more youngsters.

In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...

raising funds to complete their full mission.

One thing I'd also say is that...

it's important, even in challenging economic times, to keep our arts programs healthy - for both children and adults. It's part of what makes the USA so great.

I have been involved with Greensboro Opera for over three years. They bring high quality opera productions to the Triad, they are heavily invested in outreach to the community, and, unlike some opera companies, they hire locally as well as internationally.
