Depends on whose there. do not go there on tuesday evening, sick asking for a couple of pieces of soap. Coughing up green for two days, could barely talk and informed the staff as a walk in. A white woman with a lesbianic haircut and gray hair will try to degrade you and give you unnecessary lecture and get you to spill your guts while you're physically suffering. All for a couple of pieces of soap. She'll probably say she's a "Christian" as well. You need some new evening staff/volunteers. There's something to say about treating others with dignity.

Grassroots is Howard County, MD's on 24-hour crisis intervention center and homeless shelter. It is a non-profit that provides day in and day out services for the most vulnerable people in our community, including managing a Day Resource Center for the chronically homeless and a Cold Weather Shelter in area churches when Grassroots facilities are full. Everyday it supports people's decision to get back on their feet through a combination of couseling and referral. It is a remarkable change agent in our community and has helped make us a more compassionate people by engaging hundreds of people in volunteer work, making and serving food, providing clothing, holding events to raise funds, etc.

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...
the ability to make a difference in the lives of people who are down on their luck.
The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...
respectful and caring.
If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...
build a larger shelter and provide more services for the chronically homeless who require a lot of time and effort by many professionals.
