Grant Beckstrand Cancer Foundation

Rating: 5 stars   3 reviews

Issues: Homeless & Housing, Human Services, Cancer

Location: 20341 Birch Street Ste 310 Newport Beach CA 92660 USA

Mission:

Each year, cancer attacks, disrupts and eventually destroys millions of lives – from the very young to the young-at-heart. This year, nearly 1.4 million new cases will be diagnosed, with little support available to provide day-to-day living and basic needs for victims who desperately need it during their time of hardship and survival. But by reaching out to patients with a unique combination of financial assistance, supportive counsel, resources and patient advocacy, Beckstrand Cancer Foundation serves as a link between the temporary situation of distress and a hopeful, long-term solution. Offering solutions to the seemingly ordinary needs of everyday life is Beckstrand Cancer Foundation’s mission.

Programs: IPA is a flexible and adaptable solution for cancer patients in need, designed specifically to avoid unnecessary hardship by filling gaps in conventional social services. IPA cases are initiated by partners in the healthcare community including UCI, Hoag, CHOC, PSMG, USC Norris, UCLA, Long Beach Memorial and City of Hope. Oncologists and social workers match patient needs to the IPA program and refer them directly to Beckstrand Cancer Foundation. All prospective clients are evaluated to determine needs and available resources.

Following admission, the program develops a transitional care strategy serving as a link between the temporary situation of distress and a permanent workable solution. Counseling and community resources are offered, and financial help is available until other interventions, which solve the problem permanently, can begin.

Financial assistance is available through:

• Medical co-payments & health insurance premiums
• Prescription reimbursement
• Rent & mortgage assistance
• Utilities
• Auto payments & insurance

It is impossible to describe in a few lines everything that Beckstrand meaning to us but I'll try to do, is that we have a son named Michael Reyes who suffers from a brain tumor extremely dangerous and lethal named Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma (DIPG) or Brain Stem, and according to the doctors he has short time to live and since then we are struggling with all the resources of science to extend its life, For some people we learned about the wonderful work made by Beckstrand and that is how we decided to write to contact them, receiving immediate response by the Director of Development & Communications Kaerie Ray, we explained to her the situation of our son and immediately they were moved and put all their efforts and resources to give happiness to our son, and not only to him but also to us, giving us a Christmas that we will never forget.
To get started they asked us to send them a wish list of our son, and not only for our son but also from us, to comply with his surprise they contacted a celebrity known as Gilles Marini whom a wonderful day came to our house with his family and with Lil an executive of Beckstrand playing the role of Santa Claus, the gifts were incredible, our child's happiness overflowed everything imaginable, they not only gave him the Wii-U which he dreamed so much and that we never have been able to give, but the best was the magical day that we spent as a family with them, and in addition to many more gifts they also surprised him with tickets to visit Disneyland and California Adventure, also gave him a dinner at one of his favorite restaurants, and cash, as well Backstrand paid our gas bill that we had disconnected for more than six months, moreover Becktsrand through Kaerie Ray keep a warm touch with us.
We could say much more about them, but just We know that they are not from this planet, they are true angels who have brought a memorable Christmas at our home and a great happiness to our son that he still remembers and remember forever, they are wonderful!...Thanks BECKSTRAND!

My late husband was in the last stages of Bladder Cancer. He was 41 and my children were 6,8 & 9. We were struggling as we had spent nearly 11/2 years in the hospital. I was given Beckstrand's number through our oncologist, Dr. Neil Barth. Dr. Barth is an amazingly oncologist and his level of care for his patients is far and above the care most people receive.

In December 2008, Beckstrand immediately came to my aide and provided one of the most amazing Christmas' for the children! They also provided our family with an experience that will always be treasured and remembered. To this day, we are overwhelmed by the care and generosity we received from Beckstrand. Now, it is our turn to give back and be a part of this wonderful Foundation! We could never do enough!

All our gratitude and love to the people who give of themselves to meet people during some of their darkest hours in life.
Forever indebted............

When my son Jack relapsed with leukemia in 2006 it was a life changing ordeal. Financialing and emotionally it was a challenging time for our family. Two and a half years later, even though Jack was in a solid remission we were faced with maintenace treatment and expenses that threatened our family's financial stability. The Beckstrand Foundation understood our situation and helped us to "catch up" with mounting bills. Their kindness and gifts of monetary assistance made us feel as if thery were our guardian angel. We cannot thank the Beckstrand Cancer Foundation enough for their compassion and devotion to helping families, like ours, in times of need as a result of cancer and all its repercussions.
