When I arrived at Gow in '68 I was performing two grades below my age in both reading and math. Needless to say Gow transfomed both my understanding of how I learned, and gave me confidence as a learner. After graduating in '72, I went on to graduate from a four year college obtaining a B.S. in Biology with a minor in education, and later earned a Masters in Education. I have been teaching and coahing now for 34 years. If I had not attended Gow, I am not sure what career path I wound have chosen. But, I am sure that Gow gave me more than just an education that has helped me develop as an individual.

My son was failing in the public school system with "special needs" (supposedly) attention. When we visited Gow and interviewed with Mr. Garcia, we actually cried when he described our child to a tee. He was conveying what a dislexic child thinks and acts like. Our son entered Gow in his junior year in high school and shone like never before. Our son gained lifelong friends and is still in touch with his math teacher (whom he played chess with every night). It was such a relief to have positive teaching instead of "lip service" as was the case in our public school.

Parenting is a full time job and with that job comes the responsibility of providing our children with the best education you possibly can. We hit a wall in our hometown high school and it was no longer a proper place for our son. There was bullying and school was extremely difficult. We were lucky enough to have found The Gow School. Our son became the individual he is today because of the caring and giving from the Gow staff of teachers and their spouses. Our son found strength in his studies and self esteem he never would have found in himself. This school and program are so unique and special and we trusted the school with our son and they returned to us a self confident young man we all love. But the important thing the Gow School did was show our son how important it is to love yourself!

As parents, we saw the doors to successful learning unfold for our high schooler. We saw self esteem strengthen in our son to allow him to become an astute learner and community participant. It was the answer to many questions and prior disappointments. I cannot express how appreciative we are to have been part of the caring learning environment at GOW.

The Gow School was instrumental in my development both scholastically, and personally. As a past student I contribute my success to the studies learned and the character developed while attending Gow. You learn the building blocks to overcome obstacles which without help, would hinder your development as a young adult. Thank you to the staff of Gow, you make a difference!
