The Service Initiative provides services to at-risk youth; disadvantaged adults; people with disabilities; and seniors returning to the work force. Program offerings include: conveniently located Career Centers; Workforce Investment Act (WIA) services; Vocational Rehabilitation programs; computer skills training; and customized job skills training. In addition, Goodwill performs janitorial and landscaping services through state and federal set-aside contracts and is a NISH agency. I have worked for the organization for 5 years. I believe that we have come a long way. With the economy the way it is now more people are using our career centers and shopping in our stores. Not many people realize how many programs we actually have. We even have 2 charter schools to give kids a second chance and to make something of themselves. Some people think we should be cheaper, but if you think about it atleast the money you spend is going towards something good. The money is actually helping people better themselves instead of going in the big man's pocket.

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

knowing that 99% of every dollar goes back into the community to better the lives of others.

I cannot say enough good things about the way the AZ Goodwill stores are operated. I have never lived in a town where shopping at thrift stores was so much fun. I never miss the weekly bargain days--half price Saturday and Dollar Day but also do regular shopping using my 20% discount coupon obtained when donating items. I cannot go to any room in my house where I don's see some great find; it is like a treasure hunt, never knowing what I will come home with. Keep up the good work.

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

Shopping their numerous thrift shops. There are eight shops wihin a 10 mile radius and I frequent all of them.

You say that you put many people to work but my husband has applied here at the local store many times and they never have responded and they have openings our brand new store before it opened my husband applied and has several times since its been opened. Also I think (my opinion only) some of the prices are way too high for what I can afford to pay I can go to a new store and get some of the items for a $1 or so more to buy brand new. I know they have to make some money and they have lots of stuff I could use but whomever they have putting the prices on does not know prices in the new stores. when some of these items are already old and used alot. People can go to garage sales and find better prices or negociate prices if they really need it. which is something you cannot do in the store.

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

That they have a large variety of things to pick from

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

Most of them were very friendly and willing to help

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

Offer more people to work for them and give people a dream of being able to survive in this economy and afford also to purchase things they need for their homes .

I was taught at an early age to reuse and repurpose clothes and household items. Without Goodwill, as a vibrant local business, it would be so much more difficult to pass this philosophy down to next generation. I shop at Goodwill and I donate to Goodwill regularily.

I am currently in college and on the waiting list for the nursing program. This was a dream of mine for 30 years that I never thought would become a reality. As a result of my involvement with Goodwill and its scholarship, my adult daughter is now starting college and another adult relative is going to college. They said I gave them the inspiration to pursue their dreams. Without Goodwill none of this would be happening.

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

help train more people for jobs where they could make a decent living and contribute more to society.

I always find treasures at the Good Will - these are things that you cannot find anywhere else. The experience is often like walking down memory lane. You'll find fine crystal from the Czech republic to good old fashioned American made tools. There is something there for everyone and all at a more than reasonable price! I also know that every dollar spent at the Good Will, is a dollar put to good use. I often will see classrooms filled with people who are diligently working toward bettering themselves. As a contribution to society, the Good Will is providing people with the knowledge necessary to enter the work force. Bravo!

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

I love Goodwill. I buy nearly everything I own there. The store at 32nd and Chandler Blvd. has an unbelievably long wait on 1/2 price days, yet other store keep the lines short. The line is sometimes all the way back to the shoes down the ramp and through the lower store. It discourages me from going there on sale days. Please don't jam clothes on the racks at all of the stores. If you want me to look at clothes, there has to be space to separate them. I've seen floor people cram them on the rack just to empty their rack. For me to shop, I either need to pull them all toward me and leave the hangers jacked in the air because I can't shove them back down, or give up and not even look. Pleases train taggers to staple the tag on the hem or thicker part of the sleeve. Many of my shirts show they are Goodwill purchases because of the two little staple holes on the wrist of my sleeves. Thank you for providing a great service where everybody wins!

Ways to make it better...

shorter check out lines at 32nd and Chandler on 1/2 price day staple in hem of sleeves, not single layer of fabric which causes holes don't jam stuff on the rack so it can't be looked at

In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...

not jamming the racks, being more selective with clothing, and better quality is frequently not better quality

One thing I'd also say is that...

I'm glad you are here for my shopping needs and treasures
