Goodwill’s mission is to improve the quality of life of disadvantaged Thai women by empowering them through personal and career development services.
Since our establishment in 2000, over 7,000 women and girls have participated in our programs. According to our most recent Impact Analysis report, students that successfully utilized our services found a job paying, on average, 3,580 THB (US $116) more per month, representing a 36% boost to the student median income of 10,000 THB. Building on our success, a second Goodwill branch was opened in August 2011 in Ubon Ratchathani (Northeastern Thailand) and has been providing knowledge and skills training for women and girls considering migration from villages to work in the city. While we have a proven record of creating high impact at a low cost, the greatest obstacle to reaching our goals is limited funding. We have an effective structure and committed staff in place to expand our impact to more women, but support is needed.
Virtually all of disadvantaged women with whom Goodwill works have never finished high school, have migrated to Bangkok from poorer rural provinces in search of employment to support their family, are single or separated/divorced and have to support their parents and children back home. For those who are currently employed, the majority of the women find themselves in informal employment characterized by unstable income and poor working conditions (e.g. factories, construction, and temporary jobs, including work in the sex trade).
