I was a General Member of the Public & Toured the facilities to determine if there were needs that my abilities might match.

I've only just been introduced to the Center. In that short period, I have had only "associations of excellence", so far removed from those I have otherwise made around Palm Springs in the other gay organizations, from charity to for-profit establishments. I look forward to a continued relationship with what I see as committed, like-mined individualists - but with a common purpose - the acknowledged need of the senior and disabled population - for food, for training, for socialization, and mostly - just for a hug - to know you aren't alone. Thanks so much to all of you who make this possible.
The Great!
- I've seen the results of this organization in... people around me whom I have learned to admire over a lifetime, selflessly devoting their energies to a cause we should all be able to associate with - that of growing older and that of fear of isolation.
- What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is... the excellent personal approach to greeting each person as they walk through the door - I immediately felt like I was among old friends; old here meant as an accolade, since few friends I have had ever last that long.
- The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were... people like myself, but focused on bringing about a cooperative environment in which clients, volunteers and staff can feel welcome and definitely will return.
- If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could... probably be a cornerstone organization for making sure "the poor retired" on fixed incomes in our community will never have to worry about being hungry, will have a place to share their life's experiences in a non-judgmental way, and re-gain pride.
Ways to make it better!
- My experience would have been better if... I felt more involvement from our city fathers, who are shirking their duties to the community by failing to recognize this important organization and the niche into which it bears the holes in the safety net we all presumed would be there.
- If I ran this organization, I would... worry constantly that the needs of the many might outweigh the gifts from the few - and forever be trying to devise ways to assure the continuity of a support structure so desperately needed, especially now, when Social Security Retirement = poverty level
- In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are... Funding - with other similar support groups and organizations folding before out eyes due to lack of funds and fiscal controls, the demands to be met with a potential client base as large as that of the Palm Springs area, are enormous. Each dollar helps.
- One thing I'd also say is that... I wish I had the 10 million bucks alluded to in the questions, as I could see this organization as the recipient and the excellent uses that would be made of the funding, from a lay point of view.
I was a Volunteer & I volunteer to help with the Ladies Dance and I'm also part of the team that is developing the low cost counseling center for LGBT seniors.

My partner and I are new to Palm Springs and could not have had a warmer welcome from all the kind people who work at the Golden Rainbow Senior Center. We were completely impressed with all of the services and programs and decided to volunteer our time to contribute to this fabulous organization. They sincerely care about serving the needs of the LGBT community and are constantly seeking to augment and improve the services and programs they offer. The inspired leadership of Harvey Stern makes this center vibrant - he truly understands the importance of community for our seniors and how it impacts every aspect of health, happiness and well being.
The Great!
- I've seen the results of this organization in... witnessing the happiness it seems to bring to the seniors.
- What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is... meeting all the wonderful people associated with the Center.
- The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were... kind, warm, funny, smart and generous.
- If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could... make many dreams a reality! How about affordable and beautiful assisted living LGBT senior housing? How about offering complementary health services not covered by insurance? How about satellite GRSC's throughout the Coachella Valley?
Ways to make it better!
- If I ran this organization, I would... hire Harvey!
- In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are... social service funding issues statewide.
- One thing I'd also say is that... I'm honored to be associated with this organization.
The Golden Rainbow Senior Center is a great community center. They offer classes, events and activities for people of all ages. I participate in the women's book club and attend the women's dances. I have met the loveliest people there and am happy to serve the senior community. Harvey is a great leader and the staff is warm and friendly. Everyone should come by and check out the offerings.

Excellent Organization. I participate in "Fit After Fifty",a twice weekly low impact Sr. exercise program designed for general vitality and to improve balance and prevent falls. As a retired art professor I began an art appreciation series coordinated with current exhibitions at the Palm Springs Art Museum. Each unit has two segments, (1) a film and discussion at the Center followed a week later by (2) a docent led museum tour. The well attended pilot exhibition (Spring 2009) was THE PORTRAITS OF ROBERT MAPPLETHORPE. Two more are upcoming in the Fall

- The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were... professional friendly and welcoming.
- If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could... provide a much needed full service senior residential facility with condos, assisted living and skilled nursing components geared to the GLBT community
Ways to make it better!
- My experience would have been better if... my partner and I had discovered the Center sooner.
- If I ran this organization, I would... be justifyably proud.
- In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are... fundraising in difficult times from a population shellshocked by worthy appeals.
- One thing I'd also say is that... I'm glad there are no more boxes to fill in.

It's absolutely amazing to have been a member of the center for several years and to witness the continual growth. The entire staff truly has their hearts in the right place as far as seeing that the center survives and thrives. It is a resource for the coummunity that is much appreciated by the people whom it serves. Carry on the great work, ladies and gentlemen!
