Global Volunteer Network Foundation has truly been an incredible partner and has helped us transform so many lives and create lasting change for the children in Peru. The people behind the scenes at GVNF are truly passionate about and devoted to making the world a better place by helping enrich peoples' lives all around the world. GVNF should be regarded as a role model and an example organization for other organizations to follow. As the director of a US based NGO, GVNF has helped in ways that we never would have expected. GVNF has helped not only fund some of our most important projects and programs, but has also inspired and reached out to other people and organizations to get them involved as well. This incredible organization continues to set the bar for all organizations involved in making positive change around social justice. GVNF truly cares about their relationship with their partners as well as the overall impact on the people that their partners help and support.

The Great!

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

Peru, where GVNF has continued to help the needy children and people of Cusco and the Sacred Valley.

Ways to make it better...

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

continue to grow it bigger!

The Global Volunteer Network Foundation has been supporting our projects since its inception in 2005, most significantly, the year on year running costs for our Brighter Future Children's Home (BFCH), a happy and loving home to 14 deprived, orphaned or destitute Nepali children. The help and support they give us (not just financial) is outstanding and their staff are always willing to do that little bit extra to make a fundraising campaign (ours or theirs on our behalf) a success. Not only do they fundraise directly to support our projects, but they also act as a 'donation station' for friends of VSN, thus reducing international transfer costs and enabling small donors to make viable donations. We are currently working together on their Everest Base Camp Fundraising Trek which is happening in September, of which the funds will go to cover future year's running costs of our BFCH home. Alongside this their Eat So They Can campaign is focusing on running costs for both BFCH and our second children's home Shining Stars Children's Home (26 children) and they have also nominated us as their Project of the Month for August, in order to help us raise money for the further education of our children. The relationship VSN has with the GVN Foundation is far more than 'client served', they are very definitely part of our family and they are the reason our BFCH children are able to grow up in a safe and loving environment, attend school, eat healthy, nutritious meals and most importantly, enjoy their childhood.

GVN Foundation is hard working, devoted, consistent, and well managed. they respect the projects they serve by always asking us what are our biggest needs. and as those needs change, they adapt quickly and warmly - they do not think they know best, but always strive to learn more about us. they require us to fill reporting templates that make us think about the impact and lessons learned from each funding event. this helps us on the ground (in developing counties) to understand the effects of our work and how to improve next time around. it also helps GVN foundation to educate their donors on their own impact and responsibilities.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

we've been working together consistently since 2008. they've helped us to fund a daily hot lunch program in a semi-urban primary school since 2008, pay teachers and buy teaching materials for another primary school since 2009, they've helped us buy land, build a 4 classroom building and a staff house for a small children's day centre (2010), build a goat farm for a rural primary school (2011), start a social entrepreneurship piggery (2012), give out 4 pregnant cows to a rural women's group (2012).

Ways to make it better...

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

change nothing - i appreciate the time they take on email and on skype to find out what we're trying to do each year. they fundraise in innovative ways that change with the times. they do ongoing sponsorship type funding and one-off lump sum donations. they make sure they don't just send cash off to Uganda with no accountability or transparency - they have well laid out fund request and reporting templates.

How did you find this group?

online and through Global Volunteer Network.

What, if any, change in your life has this group encouraged?

they have helped us to continue funding well run, sustainable programs in Uganda. locally run projects are gaining not just the funding, but the training in budgeting and report writing that's involved with working with GVN Foundation. because they are consistent, and stand with us year after year, we feel like a true partner, not just people on the ground begging for money from any random entity to keep things afloat! we've grown along with them.
