This will be my biggest donation since I`ve pledged to donate 20% of any monetary income several months ago. I wish it could be more, but I`m only a rising college freshman. My money does far more in your hands than in mine. Your organization practically satisfies all of my main concerns: relieving suffering, conserving resources, and a CEO who works for the people, not the money. I wish you the best of luck in your efforts!

I have visited two of our program countries with executive staff to inspect the materials that we sent, and was most imprsssed with the comments of gratitude and admiration for Global Links. I heard great affirmations that we sent only useful materials, and were careful to determine what they really needed.
I have attended many events to meet potential donors and personnel with collaborating organizations and have made many valuable contacts for Global Links. In so doing, I was delighted to discover how well our organization is regarded in many circles.
I have gotten to know the staff and am very impressed with their idealism and their willingness to do labor--intensive processes in order to ensure that we are sending only usable materials, in the most efficient and effective ways.
The Great!
- I've seen the results of this organization in... my visits to program countries, in my consultations with the staff, in my contacts with collaborating organizations in the U.S.
- What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is... meeting and working with our extraordinary staff, people (most of them young) who are very idealistic and committed to working long hours to effect our labor-intensive processes which ensure excellent quality supplies.
- The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were... as I mentioned above, extremely idealistic and willing to work long hours to accomplish our effective systems that are very labor-intensive.
- If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could... accomplish the two goals I mentioned above: find the new building, and hire several new staff members. With ten million dollars, I estimate that we could increase our productivity from 40 box-car-sixe containers annually to several hundred!
Ways to make it better!
- My experience would have been better if... I spoke Spanish, if I could promise to provide even larger shipments to certain countries that admire us (if only I could raise even more funds to increase our productivity.
- If I had to make changes to this organization, I would… make a greater number of contacts and raise sufficient funds to accomplish two goals: (1) to find a new space that would include a larger warehouse with sufficient space for our offices within it, which would increase our productivity dramatically.
- In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are... finding a building that would house both our warehouse and our offices; and, to raise sufficient funds to hire several more staff members for increased productivity.
- One thing I'd also say is that... I am amazed that this organization, founded by 3 young women who originally stored supplies in their own living rooms has grown into a major source of medical materials to 9 countries in Latin America.

I have volunteered for 16 years after retiring from West Penn Hospital GI Lab. It is a wonderful experience seeing the needed medical supplies that would have been discarded sent to needy countries.

The Great!
- The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were... like a family. They are there to help other members of the global family who are less fortunate.
Ways to make it better!
- In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are... letting people know they are there. Ready to take there wheel chairs, walkers and other durable medical supplies to send to places like Haiti.

My experience with the institution has been excelent - exemplary professionalism coupled with a dynamic performance. Their pre- and post evaluation helps to establish a positive collaboration that leads to a positive donation. I truly appreciate their support of our projects, particularly during the the critical moments of the program development.

Global Links is a leading example of environmental sustainability and accountability, because they develop ongoing relationships with health care facilities in specific countries that can utilize the surplus medical supplies from Pittsburgh area hospitals. Foreign Institutions receive 40-foot sea containers of medical aid carefully selected to meet their specific needs. By developing relationships with specific institutions or regions of a country, Global Links makes a sustained impact on the ability of recipient institutions to deliver health care to their patients. They foster international partnerships to promote environmental sustainability and redirect medical surplus to supply developing countries with medical supplies that would otherwise be sent to a land fill. From the organization’s mission of redirecting medical surplus to the recycling receptacles in the staff and volunteer eating areas, this organization is the definition of a non-profit that promotes environmental sustainability. The Johnson Institute for Responsible Leadership at the University of Pittsburgh recently gave Kathleen Hower – co-founder and Executive Director of Global Links, the Exemplary Leadership Award. Each year, the Johnson Institute selects an outstanding community leader who demonstrates values of ethics and accountability in their service to the public to receive this award. I am graduate student studying international and public affairs and am participating in the Johnson Institute Leadership Portfolio program. I am serving on the board of Global Links as a part of this learning opportunity. It has been an honor to be invited to participate with this extraordinary organization, because they are an international example of what a non-profit organization should be.
