For the past 10 years Global Links has sent our hospital in Gabon, Africa packages of suture at no cost. This has allowed us to operate on thousands of low income patients and keep our prices below $100 for a major operation, including all the hospital costs. Bongolo Hospital, Gabon, Africa

The Great!
  • I've seen the results of this organization in... Global Links has been sending us packets of suture each year for the past ten years. Several times I have stopped by, and the staff allowed me drive away with a carload of surgical supplies to ship to our hospital in Gabon.
  • The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were... The staff who work at Global Links have always been friendly, helpful, and have contacted me each year to offer additional free donations.
  • If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could... Provide sutures for all five of the mission hospitals in Africa where our organization is training African surgeons!
Ways to make it better!
  • One thing I'd also say is that... It would be helpful to have a list each year of what they have available.

Glboa Links has provided sutures to mission hospitals where I have worked for over fifteen years. Communication and cooperation is excellent. They always provide what you ask for if at all possible, and let us know what else is available in case we might be able to use it. The best thing about Global Links is that they do not send junk to Africa.

The Great!
  • What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is... they are engaged and informed.
Ways to make it better!
  • In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are... the financial challenges facing all nonprofits.

As an occassional volunteer with this organization, I am constantly amazed at their methods to keep their work relevent, up-to-date and responsive to their recipients needs. The last thing anyone in need needs is something they don't need. I've always been impressed with how global links listens and meets REAL needs in an efficient and timely manner. Their network with donors around our city is unprecedented and groundbreaking.

The Great!
  • What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is... They are great educators about how what the volunteer does gets to the people in need. You feel a connection to the end result, no matter how mundane the work you are doing might feel.
  • The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were... Exciting people who are interested in making the world a better place to live. They are "green" people who live out those concepts in their personal lives as well as their work.
Ways to make it better!
  • In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are... Keeping funding in this hard economy. And who wouldn't benefit from a slightly bigger staff?

Although many organizations often state how much they need volunteers, my experience in answering the call is often that they are so disorganized that the time I spent trying to volunteer was not at all effective. Not so at Global Links! This is one efficient, organized group of folks that makes great use of every volunteer for every minute that they are there. Their packing system is so streamlined that as an individual or small group we were consistently able to prepare a significant volume of medical supplies in a short time. It was really a good feeling to know we made a difference in the health care of many people and promoted international good will as well as diverted perfectly good equipment from a landfill. And it's fun! What a great bunch of people to work with.

The Great!
  • What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is... that they made great use of my time and skills.
Ways to make it better!
  • One thing I'd also say is that... they have a really worthwhile mission. The whole concept is absolutely brilliant and is much needed, especially as we face a future of dwindling resources.

I enjoy volunteering in my community quite a bit, so I have some experience being a volunteer. My experience with Global Links has been nothing short of wonderful. The staff is always very well organized, clear and concise with their directions, and welcoming. The tasks are never very difficult, but you still feel as if you are making a huge impact. The Global Links family is very inclusive - always keeping volunteers in the loop with newsletters, special bulletins, emails, and invitations to functions and parties. It is by far my favorite organization with which to volunteer.

The Great!
  • What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is... how easy it is to get involved and how easy it is to spread the mission. They have a variety of marketing pieces including videos and brochures that are easy to forward to colleagues, friends, and family.
  • The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were... very kind, welcoming, and inclusive.
Ways to make it better!
  • My experience would have been better if... I had more time to volunteer there - my experience has been wonderful with no negatives that I can think of.
