I have been affiliated with the Schweitzer Hospital in Haiti for over 20 years as a physician. during much of that time we have had the good fortune of having a relationship with Global Links in Pittsburgh Pa. The organization has provided us with vital supplies including sutures and other essential equipment. They are well organized, efficient and always send durable functioning equipment which can immediately be put to use.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

Haiti

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

give them more money

My experience with the institution has been excelent - exemplary professionalism coupled with a dynamic performance. Their pre- and post evaluation helps to establish a positive collaboration that leads to a positive donation. I truly appreciate their support of our projects, particularly during the the critical moments of the program development.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

the establishment of the first Garifuna hospital in Honduras.

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

their spirit of solidarity and commitment.

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

expand to other countries and increase staff.

Global links is so great, they really help me to send to my grandmother who is 85 years old, and life in Venezuela to have some medical supplies, on Friday I did email Angela Garcia, buy Monday everything was ready to pick up, Angela,Marisol, and Jennifer, and everybody there are so wonderful they really made an impact in people's live. We are so grateful to have Global Links, and all the wonderful Humans beings to work there. Muchas Gracias, Norma Arbujas

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

my grandmother's live, now she has her medical supplies, and she can have a safety shower area.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

Nothing even the location is so convenience.

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

It's the quality of humans beings are working there, so friendly, so easy to go, I was feeling that I knew them from long ago.

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

Very nice, and friendly.

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

Help more people like my grandmother.

Ways to make it better...

Everything was so perfect nothing came wrong, the supplies were ready when they told me to pick it up, and tomorrow my grandmother can take a safety bath.

In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...

Maybe to have enough supplies to help more people in need.

One thing I'd also say is that...

They are wonderful people, always there when we need them.

The Wanless Hospital, Miraj Medical Center was founded in 1894 in the small town of Miraj, Maharashtra, in southwestern India by Sir, Dr. William Wanless, (1865 to 1933) a missionary physician of the American Presbyterian Church and has served the people of this area for over one hundred years. Today, Wanless Hospital is the most fully equipped referral center for an area of 50,000 square miles with a population of 20 million. It is a multi-specialty Charitable Hospital and has provided low cost care to the very poor and underprivileged sections of society who have no hope of receiving treatment from any other center in India. The Miraj Heart Institute at the Wanless Hospital is a Tertiary referral Centre for Congenital & Acquired Cardiac diseases as well as Thoracic & Vascular problems, both Elective as also Emergent, catering to the needs of patients from the states of Maharashtra, Karnataka and Goa. The Miraj Heart Institute is committed to provide COMPREHENSIVE CARDIAC CARE WITH COMPASSION AND CHARITY and present an effective Witness through its Advanced Cardiac Care to the poor and un-affording class of patients. We treat almost the whole spectrum of Congenital and Acquired Heart Diseases as well as perform Thoracic and Vascular Surgery. Cases are as widely ranging as a few days old baby taken up for a Blalock Tausig’s Shunt to a 70 year old person undergoing Coronary Artery Bypass Surgery. The cost of Cardiac Surgery in India is very high (over $5,000 per patient) and such facilities are available at private Corporate Hospitals, which are affordable only to the upper middle and rich classes. The Miraj Heart Institute provides subsidized Cardiac surgical care, (about $2,500 per patient) with a very high level of professional skill and a compassionate Christian approach. This has been made possible by the generous help that we continue to receive in the form of Funds, Equipment and Disposables from various organizations. The cost of disposable items constitutes a major part of the expenditure on Cardiac surgery. Cardiac suture is a very important and fairly costly ingredient of the operation. Furthermore good quality suture is imperative for an optimal surgical result. Our average cost of suture per Open Heart Surgery varies from $250 to $500 depending on the type of surgery. Global Links, USA (www.globallinks.org) a charitable organization have been kind enough to donate us Cardiac surgical suture. Global Links has been helping my program since 2007 by regularly donating these expensive Cardiac sutures. These ongoing donations of valuable sutures from Global Links for the past 3 years have substantially helped to keep our operative costs low. Our average cost of suture per Open Heart Surgery varies from $300 to $500; depending on the type of surgery. Till date I have used these sutures supplied by Global Links in over 100 Open Heart surgeries and have been able to cut down my operating costs by at least $200 per patient. It is because of such continued support that we are able to run our program and care for the un-affording sections of patients in this part of our country. Beyond doubt as always the loving hand of our Lord and Master Jesus Christ was at work and we all thank and praise Him for the great Humanitarian work that Global Links continues to do for the poor and needy. It is said that ‘A STITCH IN TIME SAVES NINE’. But our experience in working with Global Links is such that ‘A STITCH SENT IN TIME SAVES A LIFE.’ Truly Global Links have made this priceless difference between Life and Death so very true for so many of our patients. We the staff of the Miraj Heart Institute, Wanless Hospital and all our patients are grateful to Global Links, USA for this enormous and ongoing donation of costly Cardiac suture material. We shall forever remain extremely indebted to Global Links and all their staff for their continued, kind and compassionate help offered to our Institution.

For the past 10 years Global Links has sent our hospital in Gabon, Africa packages of suture at no cost. This has allowed us to operate on thousands of low income patients and keep our prices below $100 for a major operation, including all the hospital costs. Global Links has been sending us packets of suture each year for the past ten years. Several times I have stopped by, and the staff allowed me drive away with a carload of surgical supplies to ship to our hospital in Gabon.

The staff who work at Global Links have always been friendly, helpful, and have contacted me each year to offer additional free donations.

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

Provide sutures for all five of the mission hospitals in Africa where our organization is training African surgeons!

Glboa Links has provided sutures to mission hospitals where I have worked for over fifteen years. Communication and cooperation is excellent. They always provide what you ask for if at all possible, and let us know what else is available in case we might be able to use it. The best thing about Global Links is that they do not send junk to Africa.

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

they are engaged and informed.

Global Links is one of the most efficient and well-run organizations I've come into contact with. The main focus of the organization is compassion and respect for the populations served. Global Links has continuously donated supplies to help the women in our program. We have received large amounts of baby formula and feminine hygiene products. Global Links has been very generous and consistent with these donations. The contribution to our organization helps provide necessities to the women of HEARTH who are trying to get back on their feet. HEARTH is a transitional housing agency for homeless women with children. the participants are required to enroll in some type of post secondary education. As the women complete their education and raise their families, it can become overwhelming. The supplies Global Links donates to HEARTH goes directly to the women and helps lessen their burden tremendously! Thanks Global Links!!

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

how much they have helped our program consistently. We have received donations from Global Links on a very regular basis.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

keep up the good work!

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

how wonderful and helpful everyone is. They are always very accommadating to my schedule for pick ups and are alwasy ready in a timely fashion.

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

very helpful. I typically know what I am am to pick up before I head there, however there are always various items that are added in with the larger donation. Each little bit helps our program.

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

change the world!

Ways to make it better...

i have had nothing but pleasurable experiences in working with Global Links.

In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...

awareness. I had never heard of Global Links until my employment with HEARTH.

Global Links plays a vital and unique role by doing meaningful work simultaneously on TWO fronts. First, Global Links is improving the environment by significantly reducing the wastestream of healthcare institutions. Second, Global Links is improving the lives of scores of individuals in developing countries through the recycling and reuse of medical equipment and supplies. Changing the environment and changing healthcare are two giant tasks and Global Links makes a positive impact on both with a level of competence and professionalism rarely seen.
