I am absolutely impressed with Global Links' ability to be truly resourceful in simultaneously addressing the problem of excess/waste from the hospital/pharmaceutical end and the problem of lack of medical equipment and supplies in the third world due to economic and infrastructural disadvantage. It is not only an ingenious environmentally-friendly organization that recycles what could become waste, but one that also quietly and effectively fights for human rights on a global level in terms of equal access to quality health care.

The Great!

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

Sending packages of medical supplies to numerous countries that need it, base particularly on their individual requests.

Ways to make it better...

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

More feedback...

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

The enthusiasm and idealism.

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

The people who work there are genuine and in this for the right reasons.

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

Work to send supplies to a greater variety of countries.

Ways to make it better...

I could see the "foreign" side of the organization's impact.

In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...

Amount of labor needed to compose care packages, funds to send them overseas.

They do incredible work at Global Links. What better way to recycle than to take medical equipment that was going to be thrown away and send it to countries that can desperately use it.

Global Links is an amazing organization. With a small dedicated staff and well-managed volunteers, they retrieved and sent 34 shipping containers of usable medical equipment to serve the health needs of poor citizens around the world. This highly-focused recycling program is extraordinary. Global Links staff make visits to donating and receiving hospitals, communicate directly with hospital administrators, doctors and surgeons to determine precisely what is needed. This organization represents the best in environmental protection coupled with improved healthcare worldwide. They are terrific!

The Great!

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

Detailed responses from doctors across the globe who have saved lives with the medical equipment sent to them by Global Links.

Ways to make it better...

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

Do more of the same. Try to obtain marketing dollars to make their amazing work more well-known. This organization could become a national movement - they could do so much more with increased funding!

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

Global Links reports results of their work so well that their mission and vision continue to inspire.

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

Without exception, exceptional.

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

Expand to make significant improvements in healthcare for the poor worldwide and dramatically reduce the amount of still usable medical equipment that ends up in landfills.

Ways to make it better...

I'd had more money to give!

In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...

Sustainable and increased funding.

One thing I'd also say is that...

This organization deserves to be recognized, supported, rewarded, and sustainably funded. The world needs to see an expansion of Global Links work!

What I have seen exhibited at Global Links more than other organizations I've volunteered or worked for is a true commitment to reducing waste to an absolute minimum. Whether it is re-purposing and re-directing perfectly good medical supplies to its constituents, or simply performing its own internal day-to-day activities, Global Links keeps a reduced footprint at the forefront of its operational objectives.

The Great!

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

documented evidence from the countries it supports.

Ways to make it better...

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

invest in a strategic plan that accommodates the growth that the organization is on the verge of experiencing

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

the can-do spirit, persistence, and courage of the staff

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

everyone from the director to occasional volunteers

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

radically change the face of health care, health care policy, and diplomacy in South America and here in the U.S.

Ways to make it better...

I had had the opportunity to communicate more with decision-makers about their strategic and visibility objectives

In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...

growing in a controlled fashion, so that it doesn't bite off more than it can chew

Global Links is one of my favorite nonprofits. They excel at three different things: (1) working with local health centers to retrieve appropriate furnishings, supplies, and equipment and divert them from landfills; (2) working volunteers from a variety of backgrounds and educating them on their mission; (3) working closely with overseas health centers to identify their specific needs and capabilities and sending them only what they need and ensuring it will be properly used and maintained.

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

committed to Global Links' mission and to working closely with volunteers to ensure they had a meaningful experience.

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

Work in so many more countries, diverting even more medical supplies from landfills to be put to meaningful use in health care facilities overseas.

I am familiar with globalinks for now over 12 years. While I have seen many organizations collecting unused medical material or supplies for developing countries, Globalinks is outstanding by its ability to combine environment friendly processing and matching of donors needs. Many others NGOs collect the equipement, they barely clean it and "dump it"on health facilities in poorer countries. Instead of being destroyed safely in the US, the medicines and material, which in most cases in unsusable or inappropriate, are discarder in hazardous conditions or clogged the corridors of the hospitals and warehouses. GlobaLinks is standing out by its genuine concern for quality, appropriateness of the equipement and its support in terms of spareparts. Reusable surgical supplies instead of being lost sometimes without being used once are benefitting of an extended life. Environment and patients both benefit!

The Great!

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

extending the life of medical equipement and supplies. It reduced the amount discarded and permitted a long term recycling.

Ways to make it better...

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

explore the possiiblity of geographically expanding my catching area and perhaps processing heavy specialized medical equipement (Xray, ct scan, etc)

More feedback...

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

They measure their success in achivements and satisfaction end of the linbe not in volume or artifical value estimates.

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

small number but highly motivated for quality control

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

reduce considerably teh volume of perfectly usable and good medical material and supplies daily destroyed or discarded in the US while providing assistance in selected countries with responsible users.

Ways to make it better...

they could adquire the expertise and skill to do the same for high tech expensive diagnosis medical equipement.

In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...

lack of resources as usual.

One thing I'd also say is that...

I wish I could visit them more often and systematically evalauate their impact!

Global Links is the most successful nonprofit organization around. With a small staff and very low overhead, they recycle medical supplies from hospitals (which would have thrown these supplies out) and send them to specific partner hospitals (mostly in Latin America) which are desperate for basic medical equipment, including beds and sheets! Directed by talented staff members, volunteers do all the sorting and repacking of supplies for shipment, each day and many evenings.

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

working with the other volunteers and the staff members, and helping keep tons of medical supplies out of landfills and helping to save lives.

Global Links is the best and most enlightened charity I have ever had the honor of being involved with. It serves a dual function which is incredibly necessary in today's world: (1) it takes perfectly good medical surplus which would otherwise be sent to a landfill, and (2) sends it to 9 Latin American countries where the people desperately need it. In addition, the staff is incredibly dedicated and friendly. I feel that my time and money are put to great use by this organization, 97% of all donations going directly to the charitable mission itself rather than overhead, and I am proud to be a Board member.

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

literally save thousands of more lives than it is already saving by its tremendous work. That's why it deserves all the support we can give it.

I think this is a great organization with two very important goals - reducing waste that is tossed needlessly into landfills and sending much needed medical supplies to underdeveloped countries.

The Great!

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

our local community. The amount of supplies I alone have helped pack... to think they would all just be thrown away when someone else could use them.

Ways to make it better...

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

maybe organize more fundraising events.

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

I feel as though I am doing something important for an organization that can really have a positive impact on the world.

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

friendly, helpful, and passionate about their work.

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

have a great worldwide impact. It would no longer be limited in where it gathers supplies from or where it could send them to.

Ways to make it better...

they had more space. Usually when I am there there are groups and individuals volunteering. It can get a bit cramped. I hope someday they have the ability to expand.

In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...

finding hospitals that are willing to donate the supplies that are needed and that can be used and developing relationships with the countries the supplies are sent to.

One thing I'd also say is that...

Global Links has been around almost as long as I've been alive, yet I just recently learned about them. I think if they could find different ways to make their pesence known they would be flooded with volunteers.

It is a wonderful organization that keeps America's landfills from filling up with still useful medical supplies that are sent and utilized in needy countries.

The Great!

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

good recycling skills productive work atmosphere

Ways to make it better...

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

try to re-produce it in other parts of the country

More feedback...

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

meeting other people that share my values

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

very nice, helpful, genuine!

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

have a better, larger, maybe multiple locations, with more staff that would be able to recover more supplies and then be able to send them to more needy people!! Any one have a spare 10 million...?

Ways to make it better...

it were warmer (but I understand the goal of saving money on heat)

In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...

lack of funding, which directly relates to not enough staff, and not making as big of an impact as it could if it was able to financially.
