GIRL SCOUTS OF GREATER LOS ANGELES
Invite reviews
This is my 5th year as a leader in GS - Los Angeles and it has been a fabulous experience for my daughter and the rest of the girls. They have given back to our community, developed leadership skills and had experiences that will last a lifetime. The summer camp program is great and offers extended care for working families - something most others don't. We are very appreciative of the activities offered in scouting.

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...
Offer summer "camperships" scholarships to even more deserving youth, upgrade the properties that are in need of repair.

I am a Brownie (soon to be Junior) Girl Scout Leader volunteer. I only intended to enroll my daughter in a local troop but instead ended up beginning one of my own. We have been Troop #6974 for 2 years now! It has been a tremendous blessing to us both. By giving much to our community (including helping children who live in a local hospital's subacute unit, helping with cards and gift baskets for our military in combat areas, and many other service opportunities), we have been given the upexpected rewards of satisfaction received upon doing even our small parts to help alleviate some of today's current difficulties. We have also become more than friends with our troop...we are truly a unified family!!!
The Great!
I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...
many ways. Particularly, the satisfaction of helping children hospitalized long term, contributing to support our miliary personnel, and also helping to make my troop's experience in scouting more meaningful!

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...
Contributing to the service of others!!!
If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...
Sign up many more girls and create many more opportunities for those with less money!!!

I am a Girl Scout parent and have three daughters in Scouts. They learn to develop and hone maturity skills in all kinds of ways -- from community service to the outdoors, to caring for the environment and learning to get along with others...along with creative crafts, social and cultural events, trips and outings. Scouts has it! It's the premier place for girls to learn leadership and to do and be on their own. The focus is for girls to originate, plan and DO! Adults do not do program for them. The girls learn to write their own program. As an international network, the opportunities are endless. I was a scout myself for 8 years and it did so much for me. I could not recommend Girl Scouting more highly.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...
I've seen my daughters grow by having the safe place that Girl Scouts provides to try new things, get along with new people, and take on challenges that would be difficult to face in other environments
Ways to make it better...
If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...
create more training and recruitment for leaders and have a better close network of leaders.

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...
Total fun with having my girls plan and go on our neighborhood encampment where they camped, hiked, did archery, learned compass and trail skills and did an environmental project together.
The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...
enthusiastic, outstanding and DEEPLY CARING towards girls
If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...
create centers for after school and weekend meetings, events and activities that would be present and local in EVERY neighborhood, and it could acquire outdoor properties for camps and environmental projects that the girls originate and participate in
Ways to make it better...
we just need more people to buy Cookies and make donations so we would have a larger budget to work with.
In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...
notions that girls do not need space of their own to grow. Girls truly bring about their own potential and accomplishment by learning and doing in a place where their energies are undiluted.
One thing I'd also say is that...
Girl Scouts is a truly unifying organization.

This group is Awesome. Our adult volunteers love the girls they serve and the girls love the communities they serve. Girls Scout troop 3135 volunteer twice a month to serve at the Gardena Elks Club. This troop also has had the opportunity to present the Flag Ceremony at a Dodgers game. Girl Scouts do service projects just about every month. Our troop8885, has done everything from decorating flowerpots and planting flowers and giving them to the senior center. In earning the Bronze award our troop collected yarn and sent the yarn to a group that makes outfits for sick premies. The girls also have leadership learning experiences and have positive role models. This group provides wonderful opportunities also- the girls earn their way on trips that some may not be able to afford otherwise. They are learning the value of work and the value of money.
