Girl Scouts Hornet's Nest Council (GSHNC) has been building girls of courage, confidence, and character for many years now. The Council takes seriously its role to promote the tenants of the founder of Girl Scouting, Juliette Gordon Low. GSHNC believes that every girl should be able to have the opportunity to become a Scout which means the opportunity to become "all that a girl can be." GSHNC reaches out to girls in every neighborhood, culture, ethnicity. All the events and activities that a Girl Scout has the opportunity to participate in provide great experiences for girls to grow and learn about themselves, others and their world.

The Great!

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

I have been a volunteer for this organization for more than 13 years. I have seen the positive effect that this organization has on the lives of girls. Even though at this point I no longer directly volunteer with a troop of girls, I am still involved in the organization planning events and activities because I believe in the tenants of GSHNC.

Ways to make it better...

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

Make it possible for GSHNC to provide more opportunities for girls and their leaders through additional funding.

Girl Scouts Hornets nest Council is where Girls Grow Strong! They grow up knowing the value of giving back to the community in which they live. They become leaders in their communities, careers and Churches. I know this because I was a Hornets Nest Girl Scout for 12 years. I have also been volunteering as a GS leader for the last 15 years. I am who I am because of my leaders and the values they instilled in me as a Girl Scout. My daughter, who is in her 2nd year of college, is still a Girl Scout. I see it in the way she carries herself, expresses herself and the way she cares about those around her. My family is a GS family. My mother is an Assistant leader. My brother and sister-n-law are GS Leaders. Both my nieces are Girl Scouts. I watch them live their lives as proud Girl Scouts. I am proud to be a Girl Scout. I am proud to be a Girl Scout in Hornets Nest Council

This is my second year as a Daisy Troop Leader. It is very overwhelming becoming a troop leader as there is so much to learn and do to make it a meaningful experience for the girls. I called the Hornets Nest Girl Scout Council many times with questions. Without fail, if they could not answer a question, they would find the person who could. I was never put off or shuffled around. They care about your question and want to help.

Secondly, we tragically lost one our key council volunteers this year to an acute medical condition. The council volunteers, troop leaders and Girl Scouts rallied around the family with heart felt letters, a scholarship fund for her surviving children and through countless other ways that honored Meg's life and her impact on others through the council. Hornets Nest Girl Scout Council puts people first, not getting bogged down in the administration of all the work they are doing. I am thankful to be a member.

I grew up as a Girl Scout, so I was thrilled when my daughter asked to join a troop. I love Hornets' Nest Council and all of the Staff and Volunteers! I started off as "the Mom who hung around at the meetings" to now I am a Service Unit Manager, Assistant Troop Leader, Council Facilitator and Trainer. GSHNC provides wonderful opportunities to all of the girls that are members.

My daughter started with Daisy Scouts in 2008 and is currently a Brownie Scout. The fellowship with the other girls and the mentorship of the troop leader are invaluable to her development into a strong goal oriented woman. It is evident that the training that the Girl Scouts Hornets Nest Council provides to the troop leaders truly prepares the leaders to facilitate great events and programs to the young girls. I highly recommend this Council as the Girl Scout Council to be in.

My daughters started as Brownie scouts in 2007. Originally I saw this as just a way to maintain an inside connection with those yummy girl scout cookies. But it didn't take long before I realized what a wonderful organization Girl Scouts is and all that it can provide for my children. Our council, Hornet's Nest, provides so many different activities for the girls to participate in and to grow into future leaders. My girls have participated in sleepovers where they have learned science and math. They have enjoyed learning about ways to protect mother earth when they participated in an Earth Day event, and they have learned about other countries during "World Thinking Day". One of their favorites is when they join together with other troops within our service unit to collect food for those in need. I can't put into words how wonderful it feels to see the joy on their faces when they walk the neighborhood and gather the bags of food that people have left on their porches for the girls to collect. They have learned the importance of helping others and I am thankful that Hornet's Nest council provides opportunities like that for my girls.
My girls have also attended a week long summer camp for the last 3 years. They have learned so much and look forward to this day camp each summer. I am thankful that our council can provide so many wonderful opportunities for my children to explore so many different things. I love volunteering with GSHNC and plan to be a part of this organization for many years to come.

Currently I can not think of any changes that I would make. Just keep offering activities for the girls to grow and learn.
