I have been living with scoliosis all my life. My doctors told me that if the curvature in my spine did not improve that I would be headed for back braces and possible hunchback posture as I aged. I started riding at Giant Steps one year ago. My spine went from 17% curvature to 5.8% and is still straightening out! The staff and volunteers at Giant Steps are nothing short of amazing and I am so grateful to be a part of the family there. One day, I got to witness two women living with Down Syndrome ride off-lead for the first time ever. What a huge accomplishment for these ladies! this will directly translate to increased independence for them in daily life. I cried with their mothers when I saw it. the team dedication, the care of the horses, and the loving atmosphere cannot be surpassed. Thank you to an incredible organization!

I had the pleasure of visiting Giant Steps earlier this year and was so impressed by the level of care provided to a very fragile child with multiple disorders and challenges. The folks at Giant Steps believe in what they are doing; they've seen the small miracles that change lives and bring hope to families. Dedicated staff and volunteers and wonderfully gentle horses make it posssible for children with severe disabilities to learn to walk, to speak their first words, and maybe most importantly, to smile and laugh.

The Great!

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

letters from parents praising their efforts and the amazing results of their therapies.

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

learning more about therapeutic riding.

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

warm and caring, very professional.

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

complete its capital campaign to build a new facility; create an endowment to ensure their services would always be available to all who would benefit.

The Giant Steps Therapeutic Equestrian Center is dedicated to helping heal emotionally and physically disabled children and adults through caring for and riding horses. I have known about this fabulous group of dedicated staff and volunteers, and about the magic they perform since 2004. I have seen them greatly enrich many lives. The quality therapy they provide allows each rider, as well as his/her family, to live a richer, fuller life than they ever imagined. I proudly support Giant Steps Equestrian Therapeutic Center.

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

...enrich the lives of so many more people! Giant Steps accepts students of all income levels. Because most families struggle with other costly medical bills associated with the students' disabilities, many families cannot afford this therapy. Giant Steps believes that disabled people of every income bracket deserve a good life, and in many cases will supplement the cost of the classes. This puts a big strain on their budget.

Ways to make it better...

I honestly cannot think of what could be better. The dedication staff and volunteers is ceaseless.

Giant Steps is one of the most wonderful organizations I have had the pleasure to work with over the past 20 years. The services offered are truly changing the lives of their clients as well as the entire family; the quality of the staff is unequaled; and the volunteers are amazing!

As a physician, I cannot recommend this facility highly enough. Children and adults alike experience healing and recovery that is unparalleled in medicine. The referral process is straight-forward and efficient. The leadership and staff are trained professionals, and horses absolutely magical. I wish I had more tools like this in primary care.

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

The emotional, mental, and physical results.

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

Professional, knowledgeable, dedicated, courteous

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

Serve more clients

Ways to make it better...

This service was better reimbursed by third party payers

In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...

Funding and public/physician education

One thing I'd also say is that...

The medical community is often fixed on what it perceives to be "traditonal" therapies. Slowly (but surely) medical professionals are coming to recognize equine-assisted therapy as valuable and effective. Research and education will help with this.

This premier therapeutic equestrian center has it all: capable, caring and committed founders who continue to direct and manage the day-to- day operations; dedicated and competent volunteers that help in so many ways, a board that truly reflects the diversity and energy of the community, and--best of all--the many young client/riders, who work so hard to secure the profound benefits of therapeutic riding.

The Great!

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

the faces of the young people--and their parents--who benefit from therapeutic riding.

Ways to make it better...

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

listen very closely to the people running the operation today. The know exactly what they are doing. The community is so fortunate to have such capable, caring and high calibre people in our midst.

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

watching the day to day growth in abilities and quality of life of our young riders.

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

utterly capable and utterly devoted to what they are doing.

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

join with other therapeutic equestrian centers to more closely learn and understand how the benefits of such riding come about. We know that it does work. The miracles happen all the time. It would be helpful to understand a little more and a little better of what science resides beneath these miracles we witness in children all the time.

Ways to make it better...

I had had more time to devote to the activities.

In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...

securing the necessary funds to meet the increasing demand for services.

One thing I'd also say is that...

this operation, the people who run it, and the people it serves are truly inspiring.
